I apologize for insulting you. Not my intention. But now you're telling people an iPod Touch is like a small iPad? It's not. Plus you're the expert on when gen 2 iPads will ship soon this year according to rumors? Doubtful there will be any changes to the iPad this year. I will buy one if there are. But I would caution anyone who thinks they may only have to wait a few months for that to happen may be waiting until January and beyond. Repeat: an iPod Touch is NOT a small iPad. Conversely an iPad is NOT a large iPod Touch. That's why I always buy both plus an iPhone every year. There are many thousands of applications only for the iPad not available for the iPod Touch.
1)No problem on the apology
2)In a very very very general way, to a lot of people, yes, the iPad is just an iPod Touch (or iPhone 3GS) but larger...with a much steeper price tag...and with a few extra features that you may or may not need/want. We could sit here for hours writing replies on this topic (as was done in March when the iPad was announced) but I think it's a waste of our time. I agree that they are obviously different devices, with different physical traits, with different features, all for different USE CASES. However, what I tend to believe and agree with a lot of people is that the iPad, on a very large front, is not much more than an iPod Touch or iPhone 3GS(minus the phone and camera). If you look at all the features that overlap (touchscreen, wifi, apps/app store, email, ipod/music, user interface, photo library) they are extremely similar. Where they differ are physical size, screen resolution, ebooks, and newer apps (but everything will always be newer and enhanced).
My formula for determining if a person should buy an iPad goes something like this:
If you do not own an iPod Touch...AND you do not own an iPhone 3GS (or later)...AND you do not intend on buying either of the above 2 (for any reason whatsoever)...AND you are in the market for an iPad-type of device(plays music, touchscreen, web surfing, ebook reading, apps, etc)...then it's a great device to own.
If, on the other hand, you already own a Touch or iPhone, you better have some really good reasons/needs to buy an iPad since the features of the iPad/Touch/iPhone overlap in great detail (unless of course you just have $500+ burning a hole in your pocket).
I'm eager to see what the new iPod family lineup will be in Sep...it will also be very interesting over the next year or 2 to see where the lines blur and where they greatly sharpen with the iPod, iPhone, and iPad families.
