Wow, awesome news for apple! Once I played around with my wi-fi model I knew it would be a hit and I think as meow people see and use it the sales will pick up the pace.

Don't know about San Diego, but even in smaller cities like Greensboro, NC and Durham, NC...

NO 3G'S IN STOCK - sold out in first 1/2 hr.
Only limited wifi's in stock and selling fast.

I called both stores and they said "We are not allowed to hold any for anyone, and it is hit or miss if you come to the store; if we will have any left." They also told me. "You really want an ipad? your better off right now ordering directly from apple or an authorized reseller (if they can get them) and wait the days before it ships."

I was really looking forward to getting a 32gb 3g or a 64gb wifi-only this weekend.

How long did they take to get more wi-fi ipad's to the apple stores? do you remember?

The lack of PC world understanding is Apples success...

I'm truely 1 in a million! :D

Also, this: http://windows7news.com/2010/01/28/why-the-ipad-will-fail-and-help-windows-7-to-succeed/ is such an Anti-Apple article.

Thanks a lot for this article, it is full of the same arguments we heard when the iPhone launched "The hardware is inferior" "Other manufactures have all those big projects in the pipeline" "People want very complex computers because people are all tech-freaks!".

If I want to cheer up these days, I watch Balmers comment on the iPhone just after its announcement, how he laughs off the very product that kicked the Smartphones to the mass market (suddenly I was not longer looked down on for having such a HUGE PDA or mobile phone :))

They just don't get it. Now when they failed to predict the devices' success at launch they will herald a new "iPad-Killer" each week just to see it being thrown on the pile of all that came before...

It's sad isn't it. I think the fundamental problem is that here tech-freaks write for other tech-freaks, they just don't understand that not all people think about technology every day. They just want something that works and which is not a hassle and not in the need to call the family computer experts for help all the time.

I am our families computer expert guy and I tell you, I am so fed up with PC problems...and don't get me started on ugly plastic PC laptops with tiny touchpads.

"BUT THEY HAVE i10 4000 THz Processor, 1000 TB Harddrive and FULL HD EXTRA RESOLUTION" it shouts from the background.

They just don't get it...

Well I won't be buying one. Because 1: It's a nothing more then a large screen ipod/iphone!! I have no need for another ipod touch.
(...)
Sure, and an olympic size swimming pool is nothing more than a large bathtub.

How many iPad sales are to developers?

Depends on who you are counting. I personally know three developers (_not_ iPhone or iPad developers) who are waiting for the iPad to go on sale in the UK. But no matter how you count, substantially less than one million.

as much as i dislike the ipad, its still good to see that its doing well, and that everyone else likes it who bought one:)

Good to see someone who doesn't project their personal needs/wants/likes onto everyone.

Too often, people who comment on Apple tech, and tech in general, fall into the trap of assuming their personal preferences == the world's preferences. That's how we get such things as the famous "thread 500" (hundreds of people explaining how the original iPod was going to be a failure, for those who haven't seen it) and the recent repeat of the same with the iPad.

The press release lists 'Multi-Touch' as an Apple trademark. Never noticed that before, such a common term these days.

Funny you should mention that. I've been closely watching this trademark issue work it's way through the trademark office. Apple has been denied the registered trademark 2 times now and is on it's 3rd appeal.

£100 that the next ipod touch will be called ipad nano, and next iphone being called 'ipad but small like an ipad nano but can call people and has a camera'

Truly hilarious. The title of the page: "Why the iPad will fail and help Windows 7 to succeed". Followed by "Tip: Click here to run a free scan for common PC errors". You couldn't make it up if you tried. That tip alone explains why the iPad already is such a success.

LMFAO

The real test will be if it can continue to sell this well.

and just wait till the rest of the world gets the opportunity to have them at their local Apple Reseller Store. I have a waiting list in my store with pre-paid iPads and we don't even have a date yet!

I see the iPad equaling the iPhone sales in three years time (over 50 million sold). Some may scoff at that, but hear me out before flaming me.

While the iPhone has sold very well, and can be said that people seem to need a cell phone - some may say that is not the case with the iPad. True enough; but the iPad seems to be the right net-appliance at the right time.

So far I have personally seen folks buying the iPad as a simple computer for their children and parents. Photographer friends of mine that always thought that the laptop was the perfect travel tool are now looking at the iPad as the right replacement to the laptop. Colleges and universities will be the next wave IMO. And if the cost of the iPad can come down, soon enough middle and high schools (say good bye to overloaded backpacks and roller bags for school kids :) ).

And lets not forget the business sector. As in a thread I posted on MR ( https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/908558/ ) the business possibilities are endless.

Add to that I think that as more people see the iPad being used with Apps/E-Books like Alice and Elements - people might start reading more because of the rich multimedia content.

Depends on what type of cube you mean. If you simply mean a stack of iPads 100x100x100 (as opposed to more accurately being a physical cube in which every side is the same length), then it'd be about 83.3' x 66.6' x 16.7'. If you mean physical size, then it'd have to be calculated by someone even smarter than me (not that those type of people are all that rare).

An olympic swimming pool could hold slightly over 4 million iPads, without the packaging. 149 layers of iPads at the minimum depth of 2 meters. If they are 3G models then there would be about 108kg resting on each of the bottom iPads. About as much as a very heavy man standing on it. Maybe it's not a good idea.

I'm seriously curious how the iPad will affect the notebook and netbook market. Two to three million iPads this quarter looks like a very realistic number, and if only half of them don't buy a netbook because of the iPad purchase, that would be a very noticeable drop in sales growth. This quarter won't be too bad because a lot of the purchasers will be early adopters and people buying netbooks today are not exactly early adopters, but in the following quarters the situation will be much worse for netbooks.

This news makes Chitika Labs iPad stats way off. Unless Apple sold 800,000 since Friday.

Solution = China to stop making Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. Focus all manufacturing on the iPad.

Remember - 2 chickens in every pot and an iPad in every lap:D

:D:D Very funny.

You have to much time !!!

Anyone with more imagination than a rock would have foreseen this outcome from the very start.

There's nothing surprising about it. The insane potential of this device is obvious.

Despite my previous post, a week ago I would have never thought the iPad could do as well as it has. It took my getting one to see the potential as you can tell from the post above and the link to my other post. :)

Not the best implementation - but getting ready to subscribe to a couple of British photography magazines through the efforts of Pixelmags. Hopefully the likes of Time will get over the $5 cover price and allow for a subscription based pricing that is closer to subscription prices closer to their print versions.

Only if production ramps up. It may be the only thing holding back rocketing sales.

For sure - but there is a two edge sword there as well. Apple could have built up a stock pile of the iPad before release and flooded the market place with no wait for the iPad of your dreams. But scarce supply builds on the demand for the product creating "buzz". And in today's economy no manufacture can take the risk of over supply the market place.

In the end Apple has done things right maybe in getting 1 million "sales reps" out in the field in the 1st month. Knew I was going to get one here evidentially, but did not know it was going to be this soon. I was underwhelmed on launch weekend at looking at at the Apple Store Tysons. But I started to read the posts here and thought I might test the waters with a 16GB model... well that ship has sailed and now onboard with a 3g with 64GB and could not be happier. :)

I think it's magical that we're all enjoying this magical piece of technological magic.

I've got an awful feeling when I get my hands on one here in London, it's going to be a bit of a let down.

Perhaps I shouldn't get my hopes up, and be pleasantly surprised.
