Rebate Mess

I am having the same problems with the rebate center. I did both the Ipod Nano rebate and the printer rebate....I submitted everything online, faxed it in, and mailed the UPC/rebate submission/receipts with mailing confirmation. A few weeks later, i receive an e-mail denying both claims. I call in politely and they suggest I resubmit everything....so I do...via confirmed mail and fax. Now they are showing that they are denying the claim because "Qualifying products were not purchased on the same day or same invoice" even though the purchases is ON THE SAME RECEIPT! I called in and they gave me the usual runaround (please mail or fax in your submission again).

WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!?

btw, I e-mailed sjobs@apple.com. I figure it couldn't hurt. I copied everyone's "stories" posted in this thread to hit home the fact that their rebate center has *ahem* issues.

yep has to be same receipt. all those who bought with a sales tax discount are screwed - cuz you get two receipts

Update for me: I just got email confirmation that they received my free iPod rebate promo and it is being processed. No confirmation for the free Printer just yet even though I mailed them the same day.

Apple says my ipod rebate was 'lost in the mail'

I am also dealing with this ridiculous rebate scam.
I bought a macbook and got the ipod and printer for because of the rebates.
I filled out the rebates and sent them in the mail exactly as they said to within a week of the purchase. I sent the original UPC to the printer rebate, as the apple employee told me to, and sent photocopies of the UPC (stating that the originals were sent to the printer rebate) to the ipod rebate.
I received my $100 printer rebate check.
But then Apple tells me that they never received anything for my $200 ipod rebate. The told me it must have been 'lost in the mail'. I refuse to accept that.
I also have never had anything lost in the mail in my entire life. I sent both rebates in at exactly the same time, same mailbox etc, what are the chances that one of them would be lost while the other gets through perfectly?
Although some people might be lazy and just never get around to filling out the rebates, and thats how a company can make some extra money on this stuff, fine, but when you do everything exactly as told, you should be able to get your rebate back without being a lawyer, detective or rocket scientist.

Although this forum is probably the most efficient for communicating about this problem, in my anger and frustration last night I quickly tried to throw together a blog specifically for the purpose of dealing with what I believe are dishonest and deceptive policies with the apple 2007 rebates.

feel free to comment there with any similar problems or suggestions.

I am also curious if anyone knows if there are consumer watchdog groups which regulate rebate procedures like this. It seems unbelievable that all they have to do is just say 'too bad it must have been lost in the mail' to keep you from getting your money. Good luck to everyone who is experiencing similar problems!

I filled out the rebates and sent them in the mail exactly as they said to within a week of the purchase.

They didn't tell me that. They said to wait at least 14 days in case I need to return anything, but I'd have 30 days to mail it out. The girl also filled out some of the rebate form for me, and it's a good thing I checked before I mailed it out because she wrote the wrong information, so I had to fix it. Also she forgot to ring in the ipod on the same receipt as everything else, so she had to return everything and repurchase it so it would be on the same receipt. I ended up with a receipt about 4 feet long with all pluses and minuses on it.

I do rebates all the time for years. Never had a problem before, so I'm crossing my fingers on this one. Looks like a lot of people complaining about the process.

how do you talk to someone at the promo center? I keep getting automated and can't get someone to talk to.

EDIT: nevermind, pretty stupid to have to go through all of that nonsense to finally be able to talk to someone.

EDIT2: and also, the lady said to expect your rebate within 30 days from when the check issue date is given...so i have a week left before i get real mad

finally some results

hey guys...after talking with the rebate center over and over again...they finally fulfilled my rebate check request. E-mailing sjobs@apple.com may have helped. Linda Tambunga (ltambunga@apple.com) was the one that replied to the e-mail. You can try to e-mail your issues to her. Now I just have to wait for them to process the check....(waiting another 30 days)

btw, apple does not do their own rebate processing. It is sent to a company called Corporate Services, Inc (corporatesvcs.net). Pretty shotty website...and customer service...if you ask me.

This is off the corporatesvcs.net website:

"As many of you know, Apple requires an audit of the claims processed here at CSI. Our team, made up of Claims Processors, Account Administrators, and Call Center Agents, has once again proved their superior skills and strong attention to detail by scoring a 99.77%."

goodluck to everyone trying to get their rebate checks through

I have had he biggest problem with the buy a mac get an ipod. Here is what has happend to me so far.

1. Submitted my information through the website
2. Mailed in all the UPCs, receipts, certificate through snail mail as required. I did, as always, make copies of all items.
3. Check status online and all was good and in processing.
4. Received a rejection e-mail stating the sales invoice was missing.
5. Called the 800 number and was able to talk to someone. Was able to fax over the invoice.
6. Received another e-mail stating the iPod UPC was missing!
7. Filled out lost UPC afidavit and faxed over along with the reciept again since there was no note that the first fax was received.
8. Called again to make sure everthing was received and noted who I talked to.
9. Online status was still showing rejection. Sales reciept is missing from the actual computer! Why wasn't this brought up the very first time???
10. Fiance called this time (I'm getting really pissed) and got into them real good.
11. Faxed over again the invoice showing the macbook pro purchase along with everthing else that was previously faxed over!!!
12. Checked online status—it showed that the claim was processed and fulfilled. Yea!!!
13. Check it again a couple days ago... Missing UPC labels!!!!! WTF!!!!! I took a screen shot of the acceptance screen to be able to fax them.

This is by far the most terrible experience I have had with Apple and rebates in general. Some say there are third party companies involved but in my eyes it is Apple who hired them so that is a direct reflection on them period. I might even have to submit claims with the Federal Trade Commission. I know I should have declined the ***** stupid iPod.

Well I finally have some good news. I received my check yesterday. All I can say it to be persistent! Call them after the so called "5 days to process" time line. As a side note once you fax information it triggers the website to say that there is missing info. It kinda made sense to me but a pain in the butt nonetheless. Just be persistent!!!

I'm glad it worked out for you. Yes, when it comes to getting your money, persistence is the key.

Do I stand a chance?

I sent in two rebates, one required me to make a copy of a UPC that was being used for the 1st rebate. Sent them both at the same time, got one rebate back and the other one was never received. It's past my 30 days to send a rebate and past the 15 day grace period...All I have are copies of my UPCs...is there something I can do about it? Called Apple, they said there's nothing to do...better luck next time. I'm down $100 on a printer I only got b/c of the rebate! Ugh!

You're not out $100. Assuming you did it all correctly, you need to stay on Apple's case about it. Sometimes you just get a bad phone rep, and you have to keep trying until you get someone good. I'm guessing you sent in the rebates correctly, which means that the next time you speak to an Apple rep, gently remind them that not sending a rebate check when you've fulfilled all of the requirements constitutes fraud. That will get them moving.

Argh!!!

Just got an update on my 2 rebates. The Printer rebate STILL says they haven't received anything, which just seems impossible at this point.

My iPod rebate was rejected because it says the UPC was a photocopy? I sent them the cardboard and everything what are they talking about? I do rebates all the time and never had a problem, this is bad business.

Glad I made photocopies of everything.

So yeah Thursday I'll be calling them.

more updates

Wow talk about scams. So I called the 877 number and they tell me that they aren't responsible for lost of misdirected mail and can't do anything for me. So I'm out of luck for my printer rebate. However, if for some mysterious reason, the envelope should get returned back to me I can send them the envelope (certified/signature confirmation) with the postmark date on it and all that and maybe they can help me at that point.

Then they say for my iPod rebate they are going to fax me an affidavit confirming that everything I sent them is original and whatever else they need from me (haven't seen the fax yet). Plus I need a fax confirmation. And then I have to wait 14 business days for them to process the fax. But then she said I have only 30 days to follow up on it otherwise I'll lose the rebate all together. And she said if for some reason the fax never got processed I'll have to send them everything all over again and wait another 14 days. WTF?

Oh and they have no direct number so she said I have to go through all those menu's every time I want to call and check up on things. Real nice, I am not happy at all at Apple's service here.

Im also rather ticked off about their macbook/ipod rebate. I gave the ipod to a friend as a gift and she doesnt have the upc label anymore. I've called apple 3 different times and was first told that I'm pretty much screwed. The next time I called, they gave me a phone number to call to get the lost upc affadavit, so I called the number and it called allpro, who told me that they didn't do anything of the sort and had no idea what I was talking about. So I called apple again and asked about the affadavit and they told me it didn't exist. I'm getting really fed up with them. Does anyone know where I can get the affadavit form?

You didn't make copies before you sent the rebate in? That's one of the first rules of rebates: always make copies.
Do you have your receipt? I remember the UPC being listed on mine.

Lost UPC form

I'm one of the geniuses who threw out my computer box. Anyone know where I can find an online copy of the lost UPC form, or have one sent to me? I've tried calling the rebate 1800 number, but the only option they give is to have it faxed to you, and I don't have a fax machine.

I asked the girl if the affidavit form could be emailed and she said no, it is only available through a fax. I'm going to find out a little later if they actually faxed it to me (it was sent to my moms business). If not I'll have to call again to complain.

I feel like a criminal through all this.

I had similar troubles

My claim was rejected originally for not having a receipt for either item and the iPod UPC did not match the receipt. But if they had no receipts how can the iPod not match and the iMac match???

I like everyone else called the center which stated fax the shipment notifications which I'd already sent in again and wait five days for processing. 10 days later when the "iPod UPC does not match" dialogue went away, but the missing receipts remained I called again and this representative just stated that the processing center was behind and if the status was not updated in 21 days call back.

Luckily, I checked two days later and the claim was being processed. Like another person said BE PERSISTENT. Some rebate people make so many obstacles and waiting periods that eventually you cannot get your money back and have ended up buying something you didn't necessarily want in the first place.

Same problem

I also have been trying to get the rebate. Fortunately, I copied everything and sent it return receipt requested.
My original was received 6/25; after a while I wondered and called - they had no record of receiving any paperwork. They faxed me a affadavit and I re-sent it all (including the post office confirmation) again return receipt requested ($5.21 in postage TWICE now)
This package was received a week ago, and they still won't acknowledge receipt. The first person I talked to said it would take two weeks to enter the info; the one I talked to yesterday said 8 weeks (yeah, right.)
I might give them the two weeks after the second copy, but sjobs will receive an email if they lose it this time. In which case, I'll also want my postage reimbursed.

I bought my new macbook, iPod nano, and printer from my local apple store on 7/22....sent in my rebate forms and all the necessary documents a week later via certified mail. They acknowledged receiving everything like four days later and sent me two emails about it. Then they notified me about cutting the check for iPod nano rebate, and i just got the check today 8/17. For the printer rebate, at first it said something about UPC codes not matching or something on the website. But just now it switched to "currently in process".....

What gives??? should i wait to see what happens about the printer rebate deal? Just ordered the 24" iMac too along with another iPod and printer....you think i can use the latter as leverage for the first printer rebate deal if something goes wrong?

Don't wait. Stay on top of them about the printer rebate, and call them every day if you need to. They'll do anything to rip you off.

I wouldn't be surprised if they give you a hard time about a 2nd printer purchase rebate because you are only allowed "1 rebate per household" or something like that. So buyer beware, or use a different address.

This is really bad news. I was so excited to get a printer and ipod with the new MBP im going to buy tomorrow but I dont know if I should deal with all these rebate problems...Do you guys think I should go along and take the ipod and printer or leave the deal and just get the MBP?

Personally I'd ditch the deal. Or just stick to 1 freebie (that ipod is hard to pass up), and just be very very careful how you fill out and prepare the rebate. And also send it out certified with signature.
