When I go there, it says "These batteries were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea." Is LG related to Sony? Or, is this a different older recall?
I think that is the older recall mentioned above. I exchanged mine (free) when I bought my used PB several months ago.

Tried again now and the battery is recognised as valid for the program BUT i'm not sure i want to send this thing in...it works fine. Do i have to?

simple question... why not?

this is all very strange. there's nothing about the recall on apple's front page, and the recall page isn't easy to find.

I'm guessing that as soon as Apple sort out the recall page, they'll post a link on their main page and send out a "Hot News" page, etc.

I've tried entering serials for two laptops with their batteries, and both times the computer's SN was given the ok, but the battery didn't make it.

I'm just hoping that when they sort this out, my batteries go through, because one of them is totally dead. :p

Will this recall ever expire?
The reason im asking is that my 3k550 A1079 12" PB battery only has been through 18 battery loadcycles and still has 100% capacity according to cocounut battery...

Im wondering If I should get it replaced right now or wait untill my current battery starts running out of juice? What would you guys do?

edit: My pb warps every once in a while, could a new battery fix the problem?
My guess is that the recall won't expire. Apple can't deny someone a new battery because they 'didn't know' they had a bad battery and found out a year or so later. The previous recall from (someone said) 2005 is still valid. I'm sure in a year or so you'll want a new battery.

My battery falls within the parameters but my battery is fine. Full charge and does not get hot at all. As soon as I notice something I'll file for a new battery. Until then, I'll continue using my battery as normal.

Dang! you're right...i knew i shoulda waited........then again its better to be safe than sorry. Im sure the exploding batteries were fine as well initially. if i run out of juice i'll just get a new one.

Just because its fine now doesn't mean it'll stay that way. Im sure the exploding ones were fine as well....initially. Better to be safe than sorry.

Ah, I didn't see that.

It's hardly very prominent, considering this is meant to be a, potentially, very dangerous problem.

Anyway, I can't be bothered to call Apple, I'll just wait and see how this all pans out.

Won't it be weird if the replacement batteries are the ones that actually start to explode?.

I guess they plan to use Lithium Polymers from now on...or Lithium ions from other manufacturers

I think that the webapp is working now, as my previous SN didn't work but now it does

All of a sudden my serial # started to work too. And no, I am not quoting eva01 on purpose repeatedly ;).

I'm not bothered as long as i get mine..........

But you sure would be bothered if some one got yours and you didn't get one! Probably could hear you scream in Hong Kong without an amplifier.

Yeah, not very eye-catching. It's the same size as the copyright info. Looks like some more insignifcant legal disclaimer stuff.

Yes probably....but.......

I would just take the battery to the local applecare store and have my battery verified and get them to sort me out a replacement.......

Spent about an hour on the phone getting through to Apple. I too was having a problem with getting the web site to accept my batteries serial number. I was told that they were aware of the problem and to try later. I waited about two hours and tried again. This time the serial number went through fine. I suspect that matter is simply one of server overload.

There is no need to submit a bogus SN to get a replacement of a battery that is clearly within range. The only reason (if indeed it is a reason) to submit a bogus SN is one of greed.

they've changed the error page now. instead of saying the serial wasn't valid, it told me that their systems are experiencing heavy traffic and I should try later.

Greed, i was entitled to a replacement battery........i did nothing wrong.....i am only getting what Apple and Sony owe me........

I did phone in and after a mere 30 minutes on hold, spoke w/ a rather angry man (who is actually an iPod tech who got called over to handle this battery business) and he said my battery falls within the recall range, but to just re-try the website later.

I tried, and the web-app is still telling me I have an invalid battery. Argh.

For all you people calling Apple...Just wait a day or so and the web thing will get sorted out...It sounds as if Apple is just using the website too, so they can't do anything to help you.

hahaha, that'd be a bit of an oversight. i wonder if the new batteries are being specially made for the recall...
Sort of. Sony corrected the defect in their cells, so that newly built battery packs using those cells won't have the problem.

Just wanted to add my voice to those who are now experiencing success in getting their serial number through. Mine wasn't recognised earlier this afternoon, but worked fine just now. Patience is all I can advise really - the website gradually seems to be getting up to speed.

Re Cogsinister and others using deliberately altered serial numbers - shame on you. Such selfishness and thoughtlessness could greatly inconvenience the legitimate owners of the battery whose serial you used.
