OK, so I tried the page again, and this time it accepted both my serials - and no doubt will take the iBook in my house as well.

What I want to know now is - what do I do with this gaping hole in the front of my 12" PB? It affects my typing, and I'm worried that things might get stuck in there!

If it's really gonna take 4-6 weeks to get me a new battery, I think Apple should send out some sort of stopper to go in the hole... Know what I mean?

My question is will the replacement batteries still have the same specs.

Apple claimed that the battery life for my Powerbook G4 (Double-Layer SD) was 5.5 hours. Of course, it is near impossible to get that, but you can get some good life out of these batteries.

Are the replacements Li-Ion or Li-Poly? And are they rated at 5.5 hours for the PB G4 DL-SD?

Don't know if anyone has the answer or not, I'll probably end up calling Apple Care or something.

Greed, i was entitled to a replacement battery........i did nothing wrong.....i am only getting what Apple and Sony owe me........

And that entitles you to take that which legitimately belongs to another?

drat mine doesn't qualify :(. I needed a new battery because mine is now at 89% of the original charge. But I guess it's good that my 14" iBook wasn't affected.

All i know is that gaping hole keeps cutting my stomach :/

My 14" falls in one of the 12" ranges, but I'm safe because it's a 14". Right?

My 14" battery falls in the range of the one of the 15", but it's not accepted. Must have a different cell inside or manufactured by someone other than Sony.

The family has three that qualify... but the web page is busy... at least I know why my replacement battery sucks. It lots 1/3 of its charge in the first week. Which sucks.

Hmm..Ive tried and tried again, but the site wont accept my battery serial number, yet it is definetly in the range of what they have posted on ther site. It says 6C519 through 6C552 and mine is 6C545. Or am i reading the numbers wrong? ahhh

this is weird......mine qualifies in the 6C519 - 6C552 range as 6C548....following with a 6TC#### ......but why won't it qualify or says that the number is invalid or doesn't qualify when i enter my serial which is says is correct and then 6C5486TC####?? :S

same thing is happening to me.

Is there any reprocussions to *not* sending in the original battery back in to Apple?

Reason why I ask; I was looking into buying another battery actually for my ibook, and some of the auctions on ebay were selling batteries - some auctions said, "not a recalled item" while other auctions were silent about it.

That's exactly what I was wondering. If they just send you the battery in 4-6 weeks, and you're supposed to send the old one back, what happens when you don't send the old one back? They'll charge you? With what, I didn't give them any CC or payment info. They'll keep sending bills and/or collection agencies after me? Anyone?

Leave your old battery in there for now. Gamble that for 4-6 weeks, your computer won't catch on fire.

well if my battery (actually i have two that are in range of the serial numbers but the online thing isn't accepting them) doesn't go back i will just continue using the ones i have. They seem to work just fine and they run WAY cooler than my processor runs!!

Keep Using your old battery until they send you a new one!

Keep Using your old battery until they send you a new one! I have had my Powerbook G4 15'" for a little over a year and yes the battery gets hot but I shut it down if it gets too hot. I am just going to keep using it until my new battery arrives.

For those having trouble with the recall form, just call Apple.
Or use this as an excuse to go hang out at your local Apple Store
for a few hours while you have them check your eligability at the Genius Bar.

At least now we understand why Apple was meeting with others about universal battery standards.

Perfect timing for me, as my 10 month old powerbook battery only holds a 1 second charge :)

Do you use your battery a lot? I have a 2 year old iBook G4 1Ghz and my charge is still great. I can still get 5-6 hours out if it and I use it daily and quite extensively.

Go Apple!!

Wohooooooo!

This is GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!
Im getting a new battery for my ibook!

I was 2 weeks away from ordering a new one, so that just saved me alot of bucks.

Im so surprised with some peoples reactions, they believed their battery was fine yesterday (and it was), if someone had told themit didnt work they wouldnt have believed it, now all they want is a new battery... on a side note... I hope mine can be replaces.... nothing wrong with something new! :D

Someone at sony is going to get fired! LOL Also very glad I didnt take on the DELL users in the office about their battery replacement! :D
