Is the fun time over?

Microsoft is starting their post Seinfeld ad campaign. Looks pretty good. Now Apple is recalling adapters? This, and the less than spectacular "Let's Rock" event indicates Apple is showing signs of slowing down. Had to be expected at some point. The current state of the economy may limit Apple's effectiveness in getting "switchers". This switching campaign that uses a Mac and PC guy to point out the differences between the platforms could back fire. This recall doesn't help. Microsoft may use the same tactic that politicians use to deter change...fear. Make the people afraid of change and most will not make it.

I really wish Apple would wow us with something new...perhaps a new Apple TV. Should we brace ourselves for some Apple boredom and disappointment time?

I've been using my incase Wall/Car charger this whole time... best thing I've bought for my phone since I travel a bit.

The current state of the economy is hitting everything, not just Apple but if you were looking at the trends you would see that Apple is one of the few companies that is riding the downturn rather well.

And I think for Apple to send out another shockwave of wow they are gonna need something more than an updated Apple TV.

Geesh, is your Cup Half Empty or What??

Here, let me refresh your drink.

Why does EVERYTHING Apple announce have Spectaular or Over the Top??

Eh. A recall of a little adapter will register as a mere blip in the grand scheme of things. I wouldn't say the sky is falling just yet. However, your point about the economy is a good one. If this does turn out to be worse than the great depression, as some analysts are predicting, Apple will probably have to diversify and introduce more cut-rate products.

how on earth can you say its a bullsht product, because the power adapter may break if its not handled correctly. Its like saying a car is rubbish, because it might crash if not driven correctly... just be glad that they're replacing them, free of charge.

uhh no, cause it's a replacement that shouldn't have to had occur. i don't see my old samsung sync's adapter breaking, i don't see my vacuum's adapter breaking, i don't see my amp's breaking. cause they're quality products, planned and built thoroughly. apple rushed to make revenue.

and with all the iphone defects i've been seeing goddamn them.
you know we deserve the best for the money we shell out and that's why we bought the iphone. but it isn't the best by far and it's aggravating to hear more bad news come our way.

yes i'm enthused that they're replacing them free of charge, but they wouldn't have to be so kind if they were more attentive to their product in the first place.

I think this was a very wise move on Apple's behalf. Despite the negative press that could follow Apple still followed through in concern for it's customers safety. :)

Ummm...are you saying that Apple recalled the adapter because they care about their customers?

Recalls happen when a company screws up in the first place/does not anticipate flaws. Apple is no exception.

Apple really needs to slow down and take a breath before it goes off and ships millions of defective units. I believe that most of these problems are from growing pains. Much of it is Apple not being prepared for the demand/growth in their products.

Anyway, I put in a request form for mine already and I'll continue to use my adapter until my new one comes. If there was even the slightest chance that this was happening all over the place, we would've known when the adapters came out with the phone back in July.

Serve you bloody well right for not using a proper plug:

:D

I wouldn't be using mine at all if Apple came out with a new Dual Dock for the iPhone 3G and BT Headset. As it is it never gets unplugged. So I'll leave it where it is until I can get the new one.

of course they are recalling the adapters, should've just shipped with the power adapter that came with the original iPhone, smh

I've got to agree with you on this one: As they're recalling all of them rather than a couple of batches, it does suggest that the problem is faulty design rather than faulty manufacture and that's pretty unforgivable - a pin breaking off one of these really could be about life and death...

October 10th? so does this mean iphones will ship with defective chargers till October 10th. how can Apple redesign an ipod in a few days but it takes 3 weeks to do a wall charger?

What makes you think an iPod redesign takes a few days? iPod redesigns start months (if not years) in advance and loads of manufacturing goes into them before the announcement is dropped. This is especially true if they have to be on shelves within days.

However, when an unexpected problem like this arises, the device is redesigned, manufactured (overseas), packaged, and shipped. And all of that happening in three weeks? Seems pretty much on target for manufacture to me.

Ah, you Brits ;)
First of all, EU-continental SCHUCO plugs are quite sturdy and fine. And, of course they (2 prong - but round and quite a bit thicker than the US ones) have grounding; it's on the top / bottom. Just like everywhere else, some appliances use it, some don't :)

I do say - I never liked the new US plugs - I travel a lot and had to get the old-style one for the sake of being able to freely exchange plugs. Oh well.

Cheers,
Dan

Ill back you up :D. 3 prongs, which are all quite thick by standard to fit in the holes. You can't twist it to pull it out because its got 3 prongs too. Electricals that i've had imported from european countries with the 2-pin plugs dont seem as sturdy, no matter how strong the adapter is. And wheres the grounding wire in a 2 prong plug???[/QUOTE]

is the green "dot" on the new adaptors just a green dot or is it a led light?

Actually the green dot is the plug reinforcer. When you send in your old plug, they just slap on a green sticker and send to on to someone else.

I am going to stick green dot on my old one when I return it just to confuse them;)

lol... I sent for a new one, but I'm not going to stop using my current one, in the mean time. I never unplug it anyway so we shouldn't have a problem =)

:D

Or they could stop treating this with kid gloves and finally make 3-Prong US (Type-B) connectors standard for Apple Products and screw those people without the grounding pin. Electronic Devices should be grounded... period.
