Bluetooth's audio quality still sucks balls. Next, it's another device that you need to remember to have to recharge on a regular basis. It also drains battery life on your main device. Despite all these negatives, for some reason bluetooth headphones are still ludicrously priced.

And you want us to switch from simple 3.5mm jack to this junk? No thanks.
Cry all you want but the headphone jack is done. Newer bluetooth standards are in the horizon.

What is this iPhone 8 business? It should be iPhone 7S!

Unless like theorized all along... the 7 was just a 6S(S) stopgap... ;-)

One possibility is both a 7s (4.7") that looks identical to the 7 with a LCD display and a redesigned iPhone Plus/Pro model (5.8") with OLED coming next year. Not a good possibility for many of us who want a more pocketable iPhone so let's hope that scenario doesn't come to fruition.

I'm still waiting on the SE2

I didn't read any rumors about one at all so far so it looks iffy.

How about they just keep their same supplies order. Then if sales drop they can keep up with demand for the first time ever.

Easily the worst part of owning an iPhone 7 for me. The phone is excellent other than this omission. It has bit me in the ass many times now as I don't carry the dongle around with me all the time.

Even at home, the whole, "crap I have to find that adapter" is annoying. As a musician, I knew this could be a problem. Just didn't realize how annoying it was going to be.

Exactly. I've been very happy with my 7 Plus, except that this omission stings even more than expected. And I prefer wired usage for sound quality (and to avoid having yet another device sucking down batteries), so that problem won't get better on iPhone unless Apple reverses their decision.

You know what would require real courage, Apple? Admitting you were wrong about the headphone jack.

It would be glass, wouldn't it?
As of right now, Samsung is the only company that has the capability to supply Apple with next-gen OLED panels in 2017. The rest (LG, Japan Display, etc.) won't be ready until 2018. If Apple can't source enough OLED panels from Samsung, you better believe the backup plan is a 7S / 7S Plus, but with glass casing.
I mean yeah, the glass would make it a different design. Would be strange if they used a completely different material with no antenna bands and still called it a 7s, but I suppose anything is possible. I mean, if it still has a home button and fat bezels maybe it wouldn't warrant a name change?

Apple has reduced its orders for the iPhone 7 with suppliers, following the initial sales influx within the first month of the device's launch this past September. Supply chain sources speaking with Digitimes pointed towards strong demand for the Jet Black iPhone 7 and Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 issues as catalysts for the initial shipping momentum, but both factors have now trailed off in producing more iPhone sales leading up to 2017.

Because of these factors and more, demand for the iPhone 7 in China and other markets around the world has "started fading." The timing aligns with Apple's typical iPhone manufacturing slow down towards the end of each year, and attention by suppliers and customers is now said to be on 2017's much-anticipated tenth anniversary iPhone.

"High expectations" for the so-called iPhone 8 are also factored into the shipment outlook for the iPhone 7 as the new year approaches. In total, shipments for the iPhone 7 are believed to be five million less in the first six months of 2017 than in the four month period the smartphone will have been available by the end of 2016.

The iPhone 8 already has a plethora of rumors surrounding its design and potential new features, including a glass body, edge-to-edge display, and wireless charging abilities.

If they do come out with a tenth anniversary iPhone that has all the features that the rumours point to, it will be a special edition phone brought out alongside the incremental upgrade phones; it will sell at a considerably higher price and only be available in very limited numbers.
I would be fine with paying more for a special edition. I designed some mockups and they should be able to fit up to a 5.2" display in the same form factor as the iPhone 7. I'd be willing to pay up to $200 more for a 4.7" to 5.2" display with reduced bezels (including somewhat reduced top and bottom), dual cameras, OLED, TouchID implemented into the display, new taptic engine, all the usual speed improvements, 3-4GB RAM, and wireless charging. I don't necessarily care if the thing is in a glass enclosure, but if they can do it and keep it strong enough and it's needed for wireless charging then that's fine. I'd be happy with just keeping it Jet Black because it looks freaking slick. They could make it only available in 128GB and 256GB capacities, and maybe offer a special edition color.

I'm on an 16Gb iPhone 5c and I'm due for an update. I'm so torn though. I really would like a new phone now since my phone currently doesn't support T-mobile's band 12 long range LTE and I could benefit from more storage capacity. But the iPhone 8 (I don't know if they'll be a 7s so lets just call it 8) is shaping up to such a major update that I'm tempted to hold off for another year. First world problems huh?

Get a used 6s that supports Band 12 and call it a day.

I totally agree, I don't think it was courageous to remove it, I think it was foolhardy. There's a reason every single other phone manufacturer on the planet includes it.

I hate to say it, it must be said, so I might as well say it!

I TOLD YOU SO!

I told yall back LAST FALL, an iPhone 7 without a headphone jack and no Airpods is useless. You might as well keep your iPhone 6s.

I also told yall, "Wait For the Eight"

Go look at my threads. I've been consistent from beginning to the end. Who in their right mind would buy an iPhone 7 when they own an iPhone 6s and it doesn't have a headphone jack. I told you.

THIS IS DIGITIMES. This rag will print contradictory information on the same day so it can point to one of them later and say: "See, we were right".

Pot. Kettle.

Headphone jack isn't going anywhere. Deal with it. Those lousy iPhone 7 sales are proof that people don't want to deal with apple's dictatorship.

Walt: Timinator, what's the must have new feature of the iPhone 8?
Timinator: It's our best iPhone ever.
Walt: WOOOOOOOOOOO!
Timinator: It's practically magic.
Walt: How is that?
Timinator: We removed the bezel.
Walt: That took courage.
Timinator: And one more thing...
Walt: WOOOOOO!
Timinator: We put on a fake headphone jack.
Walt: WOOOOO! Wait, what?
Timinator: Gotcha!

Totally agree with you. It'll take substantial evidence to prove that Apple will skip the 7S. Also, things like wireless charging over the air, and curved oled bezelless displays seem like innovations that Apple isn't capable of considering their recent track record.
Do you consider the 7 recycling the 6 design as evidence?

Ahhh the "most people" argument. Funny how the opinions of these "most people" always perfectly aligns with whatever consumer-affecting decisions that Apple makes... much like the "99%" implication too. I'm sure you've surveyed most people so that you confidently know that they don't care about sound quality of their headphones and thus "most people" is not just your own opinion, right?

Yes, i have surveyed people, but would not consider it statistically valid. However, given the purchasing habits of most people who buy Beats, BOSE, etc over much better options, in terms of sound quality, I am confident in my statement. Once a certain threshold is exceeded people do not really care that they are not getting the best possible sound.

[Random nonsequiter arguments omitted] Though I agree with you that Apple (and any company FWIW) should focus on the mass market and ignore the small segment that wants features that don't really matter to the mass market, unless they chose to cater to that segment and can command a price premium as a result; otherwise you need to go where you maximize profits, which means some people will not like your decision. One of the hardest things for a business to understand is not every customer is a desirable one' and sometimes firing or ignoring one is the right decision.

And on and on. Or it can be spun even more poorly...

Most users + 1 more user want a headphone jack. My "most users" outnumbers your "most users."

;)

They have one with a dongle, no utility is lost. Problem solved for 99% of the users, with the 1% that post on Apple boards free to rant about a decision that is irrelevant to most (there's that word again) consumers.

If you don't like Apple's decision, buy a different phone. That is the beauty of a free market, you get to decide what works best for you.

To me iPhone 7 was like Pokémon Go!

Day 1...Exciting
Day 2...Exciting
Day 3...Boring

I know there are many still playing Pokemon Go but I gave my 7 to my daughter and kept her 6s plus. She appreciated the 7 a lot more. Pixel is looking very interesting.

I just can't imagine today's Apple being the first company to produce (in the millions) something so radical as over-the-air charging for the rumored ip8.
This has never been done before. Apple doesn't invent any longer. They iterate and refine.
OTA charging is only a rumor. Ain't gunna happen.

Apple might add headphone jack in iPhone 8 to blow our mind! Also I didn't buy iPhone 7 because of lack of 3.5mm jack

I read some where that new Samsungs may not have an earphone jack also. Sounds like they are trying to drive the market.

"Apple reducing orders with suppliers due to fading demand" yet a 128gb Ip7+ still is not available in any nearby Apple Store and the wait time is currently 3 weeks. Has been like that since launch day. What a crock of ...
This sounds like LEAN manufacturing to me. The will only make what they need and not make much more until current stocks deplete. I can see them driving down current stock through Christmas...people will be forced to buy what the store has instead of what they want.

Every year is the same story. Of course shipments decrease over time. Of course next iPhone is going to be exciting.

Yet the iPhone 7 plus is still outsold in my local Apple Store.

I have the iPhone 7 and it's a hell of a package. Very satisfied with it. Until the next iPhone.

Remember Jobs, live today like it's your last day. Tough to do though.
No. of course Iphones peak imthe quarter and following quarter of release- but they remain strong strong throughout the year.

The difference is- now that the fans and the affluent have go their 7 plus- sales will substantially drop until iPhone 8 is out. Primarily due to 7 being a crap overall upgrade (essentially 6ss)

I'm hoping for compelling wireless charging (i.e. as long as I'm in one or two specific rooms in my home, the phone is charging automatically). Also, a fully waterproof design would be nice. I would love to have my iPhone in the pool for pictures and videos; and while people have certainly done that plenty with the iPhone 7, Apple's warranty fine print would probably dissuade me from doing so if I had an iPhone 7.

I know it's a pipe dream, but I'm hoping that Apple dissolved the AirPort team and moved them to other projects because they're working on a Wi-Fi mesh router that doubles as a wireless charger for your iPhone that "beams" power to your phone when you're within a certain range of the base stations. Sell a two pack of the base stations for $300 and Apple will suddenly be back in the router business and in a bigger way than they ever were in the past, I think.

If they pull something like that off, I think it would be amazing and would make the wireless charging that's been done up to this point look akin to the way the Palm smartphones looked next to the iPhone nine years ago.
