To all the arrogant and evidence-less spouters of "there will be a 7S next year..."

Now Apple even disagrees with you. IPhone 8 here we come!

Cameras and batteries are a bad example. Both have been and are constantly updated. Not so for the audio jack. For me the real reason was they needed the space. Pure and simple. Let's all move on as this subject has been beaten to death.

3.5mm didn't need to be constantly updated. It can play pretty much anything human ears can hear at quality as good as any source can produce.

And space-making is a weak one too when pretty much none of us ever make an argument for wanting "thinner." If that was the reason- and that was the reason spun by Apple's head of marketing- why not quit the "thinner" game and create that space for new stuff with a minor "thickening." Rumors are that next years iPad might modestly thicken. Where's the rebellion and utter contempt at Apple for daring to stray from the relentless drive for "thinner"?

Else, if we can rationalize ejecting common, useful, ubiquitous utility to "make space," what should get ejected next to create more space? Camera "wart" seems obvious as optical physics implies it can only continue to conflict with "thinner." And Apple already makes a battery case, so why not shift the whole battery out to a separate case sold separately... to "make space."

If guys like you will help Apple spin ejecting 3.5mm, certainly you'll be right back arguing on behalf of an Apple that would eject other stuff too: "Now people can get any size battery they want for iPhone 11" and/or "Now we can get much higher quality cameras than what could fit in the tiny packages of old iPhones. This new iPhone 13 is the must have just for the camera flexibility", etc. It's easy.

Often Apple themselves will feed us the arguments for Apple products and against competitor products. I remember when Apple ridiculed phones with bigger screens while spinning the perfection of 3.5" and then the perfection of 4". And I remember many of us doing that right with them. What size phone screen does whoever is reading this have now?

Next year is gonna be a crazy year for smartphones. It looks like Apple and Samsung both have some big plans. And who knows, the Google Pixel 2 might be killer as well since Google will have some experience up their sleeves.
I'm personally super excited about the Microsoft phone with a vista like OS and IE!

Back to apple, I do hope they realise that their plunder by driving up the cost of the phones for mediocre and incremental improvements is a flawed strategy, the iPhones are far too expensive for what they are now.

What smack in the face? The "Apple is always right" crowd just ignores facts if Apple seems to endorse ignoring them. When the facts collide with where Apple wants us to go, we just spin other arguments as hard as we can that supports the concept. And if some doesn't accept our spin, we'll call them "trolls" and ask them what they are doing here.

Bigger screen phones were abominations per one handed use, pants with bigger pockets, developer fragmentation, etc while Apple clung to smaller screen sizes. Then Apple shifted, "shut up and take my money" and I'm still to see pants with bigger pockets, etc.

With this bluetooth stuff, "we" just ignore the fundamentals of sound quality, latency, etc. Instead we key on the hassles of wires getting caught on things to make Apple's decision best fit what Apple has decided to sell now. Of course, all these years that Apple shipped wired earbuds, we found no fault with Apple for doing so. And even here, they shipped wired buds but we won't fault Apple for doing so either. Wires are fine for those happy with Apple's wired buds. Wires are antiquated and get caught on everything for those arguing for Bluetooth.

Everyone got slapped in the face with this decision because it went from one universally, "just works" (with anything), thoroughly ubiquitous standard capable of the very best audio quality human ears can hear to a state of audio fragmentation with 3 forks (and all of the dongles required therein) that will persist for many years to come.

Agreed with everything including your last post.

Keep posting man, I love seeing people desperately trying to deny reality and shove down their wireless garbage down our throats.

But isn't it amazing, that if the 3.5mm port were still there, it's not like they'd be forced to use it and still have their precious bluetooth to use? Makes no sense.

I hate to say it, it must be said, so I might as well say it!

I TOLD YOU SO!

I told yall back LAST FALL, an iPhone 7 without a headphone jack and no Airpods is useless. You might as well keep your iPhone 6s.

I also told yall, "Wait For the Eight"

Go look at my threads. I've been consistent from beginning to the end. Who in their right mind would buy an iPhone 7 when they own an iPhone 6s and it doesn't have a headphone jack. I told you.
Gonna be honest with you bud. Don't look like you hate it that much.:p:D;)

Fading Demand and 'iPhone 8' Excitement my a**.

The iPhone 7 is a big fail to me.

Huge bezels
Same ol design from the 6
No wireless charging
Still an LCD display
Bugs in the OS that shouldn't be (notification bug is the worst for me)
The huge prices here in Germany

Lets see what Apple has planned for 2017. I bet they'll release the new iPhone in spring.

I wouldn't be too excited about a Vista OS, much like you I'm sure ;) But honestly speaking, if Microsoft makes a Surface Phone I'd certainly be interested in it. If you want my opinion--Microsoft is going to try and make a phone that you can plug up to a monitor and run full Windows on. Literally a computer in your pocket. The "motto" for the Surface team is to "not just enter a product category, but fundamentally change it." You can see that with the recent Surface Book and Studio. I think that having a dockable phone (I know it's been done before) would be the Surface Phone's selling point.

In reference to Apple--we'll see what the future holds. It's really so hard to say. So, so much of the population hears the word "phone" and thinks iPhone. And when it's time to upgrade their phone, they walk into the store and say "I want the newest iPhone." I've never seen a company have so many folks by the balls, it's amazing. So part of me thinks that Apple's dominance and profit margins aren't going to change anytime soon.

Watch the iPhone 8 come out next year with wireless charging and OLED. Absolutely nothing new (UNLESS Apple includes long-range wireless charging) to the industry, but folks will absolutely eat it up since they didn't hear about wireless charging or OLED until Apple did it. I personally am tired of iOS which is why I'm switching--no matter the iPhone, it runs iOS.

Now, for anyone about to grill me for being such an Apple hater--I'm not. I might even buy the iPhone 8 or 8S. I'll put my money towards the phone that best suits ME at the time of purchase. But I just don't buy into the Apple propaganda anymore. There are SO many options and Apple is just one of them.

Guess what? Apple left a port for you people that still prefer wired headphones...it's called the Lightning port. Guess what else? If you don't have headphones with a Lightning cable, Apple gives you an adapter for FREE in the box with the iPhone. Guess what else? If you don't want to use the adapter, you have either have the new stero speakers, your old iPhone or the Android ecosystem.

But just because you call it junk, doesn't make it so. That said, the opposite is also true: just because I say it isn't doesn't mean it is the best thing since sliced bread. I'm simply saying is still an improvement over fraying wires, wires getting caught on doorknobs...need I go on? And by virtue of being wire-free, it does have a battery to power the connection between the accessory and the product; e.g. wireless keyboards and mice. As it stands now, it is a viable replacement for the obsolete tech you cling to desperately.

Scary concept, right, that they thought of everything?
I plug my phone into my car via the auxiliary port while charging it with the lightning port. Fortunately, they have dongles with a splitter to charge and go to auxiliary, but it's just unnecessary. Auxiliary sounds way better than bluetooth.

Most importantly, your entire rant is ridiculous. What replacement are you talking about? It didn't replace anything. The iPhone has had a lightning port for a while now. All they did was remove a port, not replace it with something better. Not sure what you're going on about, lol.

It would be really funny if this iPhone 8 was just an iPhone 7s. So funny I would cry!
I don't know why this iPhone 8 fantasy has gained such traction (if it has, actually) in the minds of the public. It might as well be called "iPhone Pipedream". The rumors it's based off of are the sketchiest type of rumor I see on this site. The type of rumor that is most often wrong or so dimly connected from what actually ships as to be next to idle speculation. It would be more prudent to wait for parts leaks before pinning all one'a purchasing hopes on an imagined panacea model.

I tend to agree. I think people are forgetting what Apple have been doing with the rest of their product range. To think they are going to come out with an amazing iPhone for the tenth anniversary, when they have been showing such pigheaded stupidity EVERYWHERE ELSE doesn't seem realistic to me. What I think is far more likely to happen, is that they will come out with yet another incremental iPhone upgrade.

If they do come out with a tenth anniversary iPhone that has all the features that the rumours point to, it will be a special edition phone brought out alongside the incremental upgrade phones; it will sell at a considerably higher price and only be available in very limited numbers.

I'm thinking the iPhone 10 will be the last of the numbered phones, Apple instead switching to named releases. But let's not get ahead of ourselves; that's about four months away.

Stupid to remove outdated tech? So, by your definition, all computers should still have a floppy disk drive too.....Should we really limit bettering products because we cling to outdated and / or obseleted tech from 50 years ago?
This one always makes me laugh. You are arguing that we shouldn't cling to out dated tech, yet you are probably typing your response on a QWERTY keyboard, a layout created in the late 1800s to deliberately slow down typists, because early typewriters would jam at the speeds people were capable of typing with a more efficient design. It's laughable, when people argue for the removal of a piece of 50 or so year old tech, while simultaneously using a piece of tech that is nearly 140 years old.

This is my prediction I guess...Haha.

Anyway, I personally think that Apple will call it something other then the iPhone 8. I feel like Apple has lost there magic with the number naming system. I only say that because it has been proved that people are more attracted to things that have an actual name and not just a previous name with a new higher number. Although, I have been very wrong before so I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong again.

I've also heard many rumors that Apple is going to release 3 iPhone models. Only 1 will have OLED. I really don't like this idea, and I'm hoping this rumor is false...It just doesn't make sense. I mean, I see why Apple would release three iPhones...One with the a wrap around display (OLED) and then the other two would just be normal iPhones with the same internals as the one with the Wrap around display. I personally don't like this idea, because I feel like Apple will make the actual upgraded device, cost more then it has in past releases.

I have been wrong many times, but I really do think Apple will release three iPhones, and I feel like we might see a name change. I personally think that it will just be labeled, "iPhone" or something basic. but who knows, we could see the "Cats" show up again. HAha.

IPhone Panther anybody?!

1984: "Wow, I bought this expensive computer that can fit into a backpack! It has a black and white screen and I can write text on it! What a time to be alive, just imagine what the future will be like!"

2016: "Meh, I bought a computer/phone/4K camera/whatever that can fit into my pocket 2 months ago and I'm so bored, why can't they release the next one already? I've heard it will be slightly thinner, it would really change my life."

Easily the worst part of owning an iPhone 7 for me. The phone is excellent other than this omission. It has bit me in the ass many times now as I don't carry the dongle around with me all the time.

Even at home, the whole, "crap I have to find that adapter" is annoying. As a musician, I knew this could be a problem. Just didn't realize how annoying it was going to be.

Leave the adapter attached to the headphone wire. And buy an extra adapter since Apple lowered the price.

Now I... didn't say that...

Sound Quality. Why ignore the most fundamental benefit of any kind of headphones? Rhetorical. Bluetooth still doesn't compete with the sound quality of wired headphones.

Except most users don't care about sound quality and thus bluetooth i just fine; and in many applications the sound quality is good enough for use anyway. Not having a cord to get tangled and the ability to leave a phone in a jacket pocket, pants pocket, briefcase etc. is, for many uses, probably more important than pristine sound. Apple isn't marketing iPhones to audiophiles so removing the jack's impact on such user is not concern to them.

Exactly. Following their recent approach Apple will view this as a price gouging profit making exercise. IF they bring out a special edition phone at all, only a very small number of people will actually buy it, the phone will likely be similar to an Apple Watch Edition in the pricing (the very first Apple Watch Edition which was many thousands of dollars). There are likely to be a LOT of very disappointed people in 2017.

That is if they bring out a special edition at all. After all, the rumours could be wrong.

Of course, also given their history, there is a very high chance that if they do bring out a new phone with a large number of new features, they will screw up on at least one of them.

Fading demand? I'm in Colorado and you still cannot just walk into an Apple Store and get any 7+ you want. I was lucky to get mine the 2nd week, but they've been sold out nearly every day since launch.

Ahhh the "most people" argument. Funny how the opinions of these "most people" always perfectly aligns with whatever consumer-affecting decisions that Apple makes... much like the "99%" implication too. I'm sure you've surveyed most people so that you confidently know that they don't care about sound quality of their headphones and thus "most people" is not just your own opinion, right?

I remember when "most people" ridiculed bigger-screen phones... and using a phone to pay for things... etc. Then, magically, "most people" came right around when Apple rolled out it's version of such things. Amazing!

Suppose Apple decides to kick out the camera or battery next. Look what happens...

Except most users don't care about the internal battery. They were always griping about it being not enough. So now they can choose any size battery they want. Need a lighter, slimmer iPhone? Get the smaller battery. Need a phone that can go 2 days on a single charge, get the bigger battery case. Apple is genius for giving most people exactly what they want by moving the battery out to separate case.

AND

Except most users never liked the inferior quality of those puny cameras- especially in low light conditions. And most people hated the wart sticking way out on the back of the phone. So this option makes it easy to put even an SLR quality camera & lens on this new iPhone if anyone wants that. Now people can use any quality of camera or no camera if they want the thinnest & lightest iPhone ever. And again, NO MORE WART!!! Genius.

See how easy that is? And those "most people" arguments would allow Apple to jettison the battery & camera, keep the price the same and sell us accessories to make those phones be able to do what they used to be able to do right out of the box. Here's one if Apple might decide to make an iPhone out of razor blades...

Except most users almost never bleed. I can't remember the last time I had an accident that drew blood. And never turning over our blood supply is not as healthy as getting our bodies to regularly produce a higher volume of fresh, brand new blood. The longer blood cells persist, the higher the chances of mutations which can cause us to get cancers and other deadly diseases. Now I see the utter genius of Health Kit too. Besides regular cuts to our hands will toughen them up- no more pansy soft palms. And security against theft just went up exponentially. Now if someone tries to grab my iPhone, it might slice off their hands. Certainly grab & run theft is going to fall. Oh and since these also shred our pants pockets, all these people running around in old, outdated clothes will be forced to buy brand new clothes all the time. So everyone everywhere will look better! And I personally hate to lug along a razor everywhere to use for only a few minutes every day; now I won't have to because my new phone can shave me too. WOW!!!

Only Apple can make us healthier, keep us from getting deadly diseases, help us track how healthy we are, toughen up our hands, shave us and make us all look model sharp all the time. Besides, I can't wait to get those fashionable accessory heavy duty gloves from Apple for times when I just can't bleed all over everything. Which color(s) should I choose? And fabric ($149/pair), leather ($349) or carbon fiber mesh with liquid metal accents ($1499)?

I know, I know... where's that Barclay card application?

Again, its very easy to spin anything Apple rolls out... especially when we decide to make up the minds of "most users" for them. I could reverse it...

Except most users already have a great set of headphones or even several good sets with headphone plugs. Most users don't want to have to rebuy headphones when they have a perfectly good set(s) already. Most users don't want to have to carry along dongles everywhere just in case they'll need one of them. Most users have 3.5mm jacks in their cars but not necessarily bluetooth. Most users don't want to worry about charging another thing or if they have enough charge to be able to use them for how long they want to use them. Most users like it when the audio is synched up with the video they watch, instead of looking like old Japanese monster movies with lips moving and then words being heard later. Most users who fly have only 3.5mm jacks to plug in to watch the inflight movie or shows. Most working users have clients that have equipment that offers neither bluetooth nor Lightning connections- only 3.5mm.

And on and on. Or it can be spun even more poorly...

Most users + 1 more user want a headphone jack. My "most users" outnumbers your "most users."

;)
