5:30 PM. Hmm, almost dinner time...

Back on topic (sort of), I'm hoping the keynote for MWSF will fall on January 11th this year, as that's my birthday! :D ;)

Here on the East Coast it's 9:09pm EDT. Due to change back to EST on Sunday, back one hour, so will gain one hour of sleep.

I wish you well with you wife and the 30". What awesome real estate.

Hey, I'm not that old! Younger than you I'm pretty sure... :p ;) :D
Yep, of that I'm sure. But thought you might enjoy it nonetheless.

The pic is from the B-Day card I got for my Dad. He's 80 and still going strong. :D

Naw, we measure in cms over hear. So 30 is about right. :D

On a serious note, if there is another price reduction and the 30 inch hits the $2,000 point, just like the 22 inch Cinema Display did at one time, they will be very popular.

I would imagine that this will happen early next year regardless of whether or not new displays are introduced at MWSF. Apple will need to do this to stay competitive.

Dell and others are pushing the prices down for sure.

Plus, my gut feeling is that a new 40 inch display will be introduced early next year. What I do know, is that there is an explosion of LCD panel TVs and monitors here in Japan. It is truely unbelievable how fast new models are being introduced at the same or cheaper price points of their predecessors.

For example, you can get a beautiful Sharp AQUOS 45 incher for about what the 37 incher cost last year. Of course the truely huge ones like th 61 inch are still plasma and very expensive (about 18 grand).

Good for him - you're only as old as you feel, after all...

Kay, we're really off-topic, let's just stop for now... ;)

Back on topic, I think we may indeed see new displays at MWSF, since we already know better displays exist in Apple's recent updates.

Oooh, now there's a bold prediction - I like it! Yes, with the dropping costs of LCDs and increasing sizes, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. If nothing else we can at least look for continued price drops...

Have. Actually it is an AIO bracket concept. Compared to the iMac or Gateway's Profile, it sucks IMHO.

Personally, I don't see any advantages to using the bracket concept.

Apple's and Gateway's solutions are a whole lot better.

Of course I like the iMac the best -- especially the new ones. Very nice!

Sushi

The monitor is separate from the computer. That's a pretty huge advantage.
IIRC the computer itself is actually much more upgradable as well.

I would love to get the 30" but it's still too much, 23" might be a nice christmas present for me:D

Or, if you can wait, see what MWSF brings. It won't be more price drops, but may be better displays.

Damn I was going to buy a 23 inch next week, but now I'm not sure...

Hurg, well sometimes its worth waiting...

It all depends on the immediacy of your needs. If you need something right away, then by all means, buy now and take advantage of the recent price drop. However, if you can afford to wait a couple months, wait until MWSF and see if the displays are updated with better technology. Since the new 20" iMacs have a better screen than the current 20" displays, it's a foregone conclusion the displays will be getting updates soon, it's just a question of how soon - it may not be at MWSF, of course.

Well I realy need it, but if they release a 25 inch at the same price with twice the contrast and support for the 30 inch resolution Im going to be so depressed, so Im realy not sure.

That's the problem with technology - it always keeps getting better and better at a breakneck pace. ;) And, if you play the waiting game, hoping for something better, you'll most likely always be waiting. It's a tough call, but at least with MWSF coming up in a couple months you have one event to mark down as a possible day for updates. If it doesn't happen then though, you're guess is a good as mine when the updates will come.

Well, if Im waiting, I'll be waiting for the new monitors, to buy them as soon as they get released, not just for MWSF. But january would be a great time for me, as this is when I start to write my thesis redaction.

But can I restrain myself not to buy this already amazing 23" with my student loan in hands...?

Tough call, I don't envy you and the decision you have to make...

If nothing else, at least be thankful that you're in a position where you can actually afford to purchase one of these great displays... ;)

Well thx, but its just a student loan, I have to pay it back some day lol.

Do you know how lond the current generation 20-23-30 of cinema displays have been out, as it been like 1 or 2 years?

A year and a half, pretty much. Apple introduced the new displays in June of 2004. Price drops were then seen in January 2005, in April 2005, and now October 2005. So it is definitely time for a little more than just price drops - again though, the question is when...

Well after 1 year and 1/2 its prety sure they are working on something, but I have the feeling the update will probably come in June's MWSF as it will then be a perfect 2 year cycle.

My best friend works at an Apple Store, and I was taking to him about my choice between the Apple 23 and the Dell 2405fpw, and I mentioned that I was leaning toward the Dell because it has better contrast and brightness specs.

He replied, "You should wait until after MWSF I think... of course, I don't know anything, you understand?"

It probably means nothing of course, I doubt he has insider info, but having worked there for two years, and having followed Apple's trends, he probably has a good idea of what to expect.

Actually, as I said, there is no doubt they have something, it's not even up for speculation - it is fact. The new 20" iMac has an upgraded, better display in it than the current 20" displays. So, Apple has these new screens, it's just a matter of when they will release them.

Oh, and MWSF is in January, not in June. You are getting it confused with the WWDC. ;)
