No discount on the "sale" section

I was hoping the refurbed displays would go down another $100 from the edu discount, but you they are the same price. A refurbed 23" is $1099, which is how much a new 23" with edu discount is. They should make it $1049 or something, just to be fair to us poor students. But I'm getting my new 17" iMac this tomorrow so I can't wait!!!! I wanted to pair it with a 23" but oh well....

The 20-inch display is too much. It's should $599. Oh, but I know why they won't price it that low...because then it and the Mac mini would undercut the iMac...

Dell would be the next best 20" display and it's $749. Why would apple lower theirs to $599?

A crappy 19" 4:3 ratio screen at Costco or Sams costs $399 or more. And Apple's widescreen 20" is supposed to cost $599? Not today.

Edu discount

The Dell's ae very nice displays as well.

As for the discount, I believe you have to be enrolled. Anyone know otherwise?

I hope someone hasn't addressed this already. You either have to be enrolled (in a college, university, high school, etc.) or you can just be working for one. I get the edu discount even though I don't even teach or deal with students. My friend even gets a similar discount just for working for the state. Gotta love Apple's discounts.

BTW--I'm pretty sure the original poster was kidding

I say let the wars begin, and let the consumer reap the spoils. I am hoping that i am able to find a full time job after i graduate in December and furthermore that i get my own place and that i'm not at home. So low price LCD's or Plasma's would mean i could deck out my new pad.

Even if i was making 6 figures i would not buy one of these things, especially not when you can get high def lcd's for TV so much cheaper. I know they are not the same quality, and that not my issue. But $2500 for some reason that just seems ridiculous IMO.

You know you're not comparing apples to apples, yet you point it out anyway. The BEST price I've seen on a 30" LCD TV is at Sams. $999. Somoe weird brand. But doesn't matter, there's only like 3 manufacturers anyway. But that TV's rez is roughly the same rez as the apple 20". The 20" sports firewire, usb, and interactivity between the mac and the screen. Does the one at Costco for $200 more? No.

20" $599
24" $1099
30" $1499
dual 30" $2499

all with isight built in and firewire 400/800 hub

i know, keep dreaming :)
How about a 23" without colour caste?
I was kinda thinking they might announce an alternative panel supplier for that model. As it is, it looks like 20" is the way to go ... 30" is way outta my league.

One more price drop on the 30" and I might begin to seriously think of buying one. I think I'll wait for 3 more price drops before I buy one though.

Price drops are always welcome. At the moment my Mac won't run one anyway.

20" still way too expensive

How about giving Mac mini owners a REAL display option? You know, those widescreen 17" LCDs you put in the 17" iMac G5's? Make a 17" widescreen display from these exact same LCDs. Price it accordingly (say, 350$US?).

I may not be the first to post something on this but I think apple is closing out this line of displays.
I think we will see new displays within 2 months. More than likely they will have built-in iSights. I also think they will have a different look.

Still too expensive for what they are

Just have a look at the tech specs of the Dell's and how much they cost!

Apple needs to introduce new displays next year anyway.

We picked up a 2405FPW for like $800 (24" 1920x1200) and a 2005FPW (20" 1680x1050) for $389, Apple needs to come down to earth on these display prices.

Yeah, I agree! However, I think Apple want to stick to Bring Your Own Display, Keyboard and mouse, instead of having Buy Your Own Display, Keyboard and Mouse.

heck one more of those and I might seriously consider buying another 30" display.
holy crap my girlfriend would freak out when she came home to see 2 of those on my desk...

it would be just like having the Enterprise helm on my desktop...

Because the Dell-display is better? If the Dell-display costs $749, I would say the Apple should cost around $649 or $699. Yes, the Apple-display is gorgerous and all, but it has some serious shortcomings in the spec-department.

i will wait till apple introduces a display which can rotate 90 degrees.

it will be really useful

Not when you have a load of cables attached its not!

Used it twice, once to show it to my GF and the next to my Dad.

They can. Get yourself a rotating VESA compatable arm.

btw - tell me about the edu discount do i actually have to be enrolled in a scholl for it or can i be an alumni ?

Contrary to what everyone says, you can indeed order as an alumni. I was so used to ordering from the edu store while I was in school that I ordered from it after I graduated, and it went through! They would probably catch on if I did it again though!

Shame that Dell keeps dropping so quickly that Apple prices look so drab. I really wish Apple would do for large LCDs what they have done for 4gig solid state drives.

True, it is a shame on Apple's part.

Apple Cinema Displays have a great look, however the Dell Displays have higher specs for a lower price.

As long as you have the price and specs above the look, people will always choose the fist option. :)

Apple has a fraud team that checks random purchases w/ an edu discount. I wouldn't want to be the one that got caught.

Um...BS.

When I bought my cinema display the store freaking manager asked me if I was "thinking" about taking classes at UB again and gave me the discount.

They don't give a rat's ass.
