Um...BS.

When I bought my cinema display the store freaking manager asked me if I was "thinking" about taking classes at UB again and gave me the discount.

They don't give a rat's ass.
I'm just going off of what a Sales Rep from Apple told me. When I asked what I needed to do to get the discount he said that Apple's fraud team might contact me and make me fax in proof that I do in-fact qualify for the discount.
But they are very lenient when it comes to that. I qualified because my Uncle worked for UCSD. I myself wouldn't have qualified alone.

Good point - but they would know more about how Apple checks edu purchases than I would.

Fair enough. Just don't expect them to know anything about future product releases - Apple keeps them completely in the dark. ;) :D

AIO...Oh..all in one....didn't know they have such a beast..or is it had?
Have. Actually it is an AIO bracket concept. Compared to the iMac or Gateway's Profile, it sucks IMHO.

Personally, I don't see any advantages to using the bracket concept.

Apple's and Gateway's solutions are a whole lot better.

Of course I like the iMac the best -- especially the new ones. Very nice!

For the cost or size?

In my case it would be the size. If my current LCD were die, I would be in trouble. My PM can only run the 17"

Maybe Apple's idea is to get folks to migrate to the iMac 17.

An Apple 17 inch Cinema display would look cool. And for some, dual 17 inch displays would be great for what they need.

One thing disappointing about the 30 inch, is the heat that it gives off. That display is big.

23" inch still can't touch the price of the superior Dell 2305FPW, pitty. Most sales put it below $800, which is ironically the price of the Apple 20" LCD.

Happy to see the 30" Cinema display go down in price... I wonder how many years it will be before you can pick one up for less than $1000.

Almost ready to pluck down the cash for a 30 incher. I know this question asks the impossible but you professional forecasters may have some insights. You think anything just around the corner? I think 30 inches is big enough but anything out there on enhanced resolution / brightness etc?

the buyers guide says buy now - product reciently updated. I disagree. (real shock there.) An update != a price drop IMHO. If you can hold out 3 more months for MWSF. I'm thinking the updates that went into the PowerBook are going to move over to the ACD's but that's just a guess. YMMV.

I agree. Look for new and improved displays sooner rather than later - a price drop, if anything, means new stuff is coming down the pipe. ;)

The iMac's 20" displays is actually better than the current 20" ACD as well, so you know Apple will be upgrading the displays fairly soon.

Well then the 30" would be greatly appreciated during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. The beauty would outweigh the heat in the Summer. ;)

True.

I think I might just use that discussion point with the wife one of these days. :D

I sure have enjoyed my 22 inch Cinema display. Purchased it for the same amount as the 30 inch Cinema display costs today..

Wonder if Apple has plans for something bigger, such as a 40 incher?

I agree with SA.

MWSF is coming soon. They need to have something big to announce.

New cinema displays would be a nice add to any other product announcement.

When is MWSF?
What are all of the other big events Apple has annually where they announce big, new stuff?

MWSF is in January each year.

It used to be that Apple timed almost all of their product announcements to occur during their MW events (San Francisco, Tokyo, Paris, Boston/NY).

But recently, Apple has been moving away from this except for MWSF. It still seems to be the big one announcement wise.

MWSF is January 9-13, 2006. The other main event is the WWDC, usually in late June/July. Lately though, as far as big announcements go, Apple seems to be making big releases whenever they feel, like with the nano, iMacs and Pro updates. Conversely, events like Macword Expo in Paris seem to be sliding in importance as far as big releases are concerned, as the Keynote was even dropped this year.

Look for possible new displays at MWSF, Mac minis and iLife '06 of course.

Damn Sushi, you beat me by a minute. ;)

Although I had the specific dates in January, you didn't. :p :D
