I highly doubt it because that opens up a can of worms... there's no way to tell the difference between me; ordered 2 bumpers for both my wife and myself and someone who ordered 2 because they couldn't decide which color they wanted.

Also, if they're going by credit card charges, there's no way to tell if someone's Bumper was already refunded when they request the free case. Using a different credit card for instance... or my wife who has her bumper but her name's not attached to it.

It WILL likely be a request service where you register the phone itself by serial number, and get the case or refund based on that.

Try calling Apple customer service instead.

Alright. Have you spoke to them about cash refunds without a receipt? I purchased the bumper along with my 4 a week and a half ago so I'm sure it should show on their system. I'm just at work. Can't do all that calling now.

Again, the Apple customer service rep specifically said, "If you paid via credit card, we began automatically crediting back the cost of the bumper(s) to those credit cards today. Today was the first batch and because of the number of bumpers purchased, we will be doing them in large separate batches throughout the next few days." No registering.

Yes, that is what I was told too. That we would get an email notifying us of this. No need to call. This is the smart way to handle it, Apple.

edited - well, just spoke to Apple and this representative said we have to apply online for the refund. And that it could be this week or it could be next week. I know, you get a different answer every day.

it would make much more sense if the refunds are attached to an iPhone serial number so they can keep track of who gets one

Bumper purchases were never tied to an iPhone serial number, so how would this even work?

Pretty simple solution that Apple chose to go with. Bought a bumper? Ok, full refund. Bought 2 bumpers? Ok, 2 full refunds. Why complicate things?

So they will refund the card and will allow you to get one free when they offer them? Makes no sense to me that they would automatically credit accounts, but that is just me .

No.

It's one or the other.

Refund if you already bought one.

If you don't have one yet, get a free one.

Not both options.

Purchases are tied to your Apple account (email address), so this is easily trackable.

Why are you people not returning these iPhone 4s? What other phone requires you to buy a "bumper" to use the damn phone without dropping calls?

Ridiculous. Stop paying caviar prices for a crippled device. You know, do something, instead of allowing yourself to get ripped off.

Wrong place to troll.

you can only have one bumper on a phone at any time so why should apple give away extra bumpers? only one is needed to "fix" the antenna issue.
if you buy an iPhone before sep 30 they aren't going to give you 3 free bumpers. I don't see why it would be any different now.
Linking a free case to every iPhone ensures that every customer gets the one case they are entitled to.

All you guys/gals that purchased a bumper before they went free are lucky. Now, your refunded bumpers aren’t linked to your iPhone, so you can order another through the website...

It doesn’t really matter to me, since I’d never take more than one, though having colour choices would be nice... ;)

Quite simple. When you go the Apple, they pull up your iPhones serial number and check if is still eligible for the free bumper. If so they refund you the money (29.00 + state tax) and then mark your iPhone serial as having used up it's refund.

Maybe if your iPhone and Bumper were ordered using the same email, they just skipped the step where you have to do any work and did it all for you?

In the end we payed ~30 dollars for a free bumper and will be refunded ~30 dollars for a net total of 0, everyone else is going to get the bumper for 0 to begin with. Really we are only lucky because we won't be on the bumper waiting list, assuming we DON'T order a second one.

Easy.... Bought 5 bumpers, sold 5 bumpers on eBay for $50 a piece. Now Apple credits me back for the 5 bumpers initially purchased.

Wonder how this works for people that bought bumpers from eBay ?

My understanding is that they would do it on a per request basis. Maybe that guy that called Applecare got a bad answer ? It has happened before, and it seems that no one else received the same answer.

Hmm, so... my Iphone was purchased under my father's name (because he gets an awesome 25% FAN discount at AT&T) and I bought a bumper with my CC. I'm not about to cheat the system, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could get a free case while I get a refund...

Guess I'll just wait until Apple posts the official details. Bought my Bumper with cash in store on the 24th.

Seem that a lot of people see it differently than you. That's why I love America; we still have choices.

Well, I purchased with my CC in store few weeks ago and didn't see a refund on my account. I also don't have the receipt as I was not aware when I purchased that they would be doing this (since everyone was trying to get one over the phone and they were swearing that they wouldnt give out free bumpers).

I can show them the charge on my account, cause the Apple store I got it at is an hour drive, which my SUV will drink that $30 if i fill it up.

I still kinda want to know how they're going to do this, cause what if you dont have an Apple account? (though I do)

Trust me, they aren't going to refund every bumper that has been sold. You'll have to give them a serial number of an iPhone 4 in order to get your refund.

My guess is that they'll handle it the same way they did with the credit they gave to early buyers of the original iPhone. You'll have to register online with a valid serial number.
