This is a bit of a tangent, but if screen real estate is your primary hangup (I know it's not *that* simple-- I'm just thinking forward to what the iPad Pro could become)-- out of curiosity, what happens if they beef up the GPU in a future chip (A13x, A14x, etc) to be able to drive a 27" 5K dispaly or a 32" 6k display? Apple just needs to make a new retina display that's not a $5-7k XDR for the rest of us ;)

(I'm a graphic designer and I'm curious how much I could shift to an iPad Pro if I put in the time to learn and use different apps and a different interface.)

I think that if I need an external display, a keyboard and mouse I prefer to have a computer. It will always manage heat better and be more durable. The iPad would be nice for some non purely design task already now, meetings, notes, sketching etc, but I don’t want to use my personal one (or I could due to security custom software and certificates installed on our working machines) and it’s not something my company give us yet. But I speak as someone that doesn’t pay for his computer. I think the iPad can be a pro machine for certain jobs, that require mobility, or don’t require extensive keyboard/mouse support. Also, if I have to work on a desk, it doesn’t really make a difference for me if am using a computer or tablet. But again, if I was a freelancer and I could do with one device maybe I would have a different opinion.

It seems to be a little confusing for the consumer to have 10.2,10.5, 11 inch models all at once. They need to decide on sizes and stick with it.

Too many different ipads. You shouldn’t have to look at a comparison chart to figure out what is what.

Keep it simple.

iPad Pro (two sizes)/iPad (one size, same as smaller pro)/iPad mini (one size)

All should support Pencil 2.

Geez, because we don’t have enough models already?
Adding another size is just going to add to the confusion. Just pick 2 sizes and be done.

This assuming that the average user look at screen size and not price, and that’s not reality. If a model cost 300, one 500 and one 800, the customer already knows which one they will buy. These are three very different price points for three very different buying power profiles, screen size is not an issue. If instead that fixating on screen size you would just ask yourself “if I wanted to buy one, which one I could afford?” you would realize the screen size difference is pointless.

I really don’t understand the source of all the confusion.

There’s no confusion, really. People are just negative.

There are several price points, and that’s it. It’s like saying having a 13” MacBook Air and a 13” MacBook Pro is confusing. It isn’t. One is cheaper, the other one better, their screen sizes are the same. I mean, when I think about it, there are two 13” MBP too, one with 2 Tb ports and slower CPU, the other one with 4Tb ports and a faster CPU. So, you have 3 13” Macs and no one is complaining. Why would two ~10” iPads be confusing?

Because it is a confusing line up in terms of Screen Size. That is looking at it from a Screen Size Perspective. Now if you look at it from a Price point segmentation it makes perfect sense, but Apple historically has also have their product line with minimal screen size options. Screen size changes used to be a big deal, Apple stick to 13.3" Screen Macbook for the last decades and refuse to adopt the popular and cheaper 14", desperate using them in previous iBook era.

This is both a good thing and bad thing, with this mentality it means we will finally get lot more choices with screen size and variation. And more changes coming ahead. As with the rumours of yet another change in iPhone Screen Size and MacBook Pro 16".

Changes are good, but also uneasy, I guess I am getting old.
I hear what you’re saying, and if Apple were selling a $329 9.7” alongside the new $329 10.2”, I’d be right there with you. That would definitely be confusing

But the sixth generation 9.7” from 2018 is (reportedly) being updated to 10.2” for the next refresh. Apple is pretty good at managing these cutovers. Looking at the last refresh in 2018, one day they’re selling the 2017 iPad and the next day, BAM! Suddenly, just like that, they’re selling the 2018 model. Hopefully without a price increase...

I agree. Something along the following:

iPad (9.7") - Focused towards content consumption
iPad Pro (11" & 12.9") - Focused towards content creation

All of these should utilize the Liquid Retina Display & FaceID

I disagree, give a proper small mini, then a 10.5” and a 13”.
The prices are getting stupid.

Two additional model appeared in Database, bringing in a total of 7. Still an Odd number, and we can resolve the mystery of the odd one out.

What does a single model number usually represent In terms of product details? Screen size and wireless capability? (WiFi only vs WiFi + cellular)?
