Is Ming-Chi Kuo right again? I wasn’t expecting new iPad Pros until 2020 but perhaps new 6 GB models will come by the end of 2019. That’s what MCK was predicting.

One can only hope the Pros will start at 128 GB too this time around, but I’m not optimistic.

Even better would be August to make use of the back to school deal but even October seems optimistic for a new iPad Pro. I’d love to get an early surprise though.

This is Apple...Better chances are they would use the back to school promo to thin out existing stock and then release shortly after those deal end.

Nah, many times they have introduced new products in the middle of the back-to-school promotion, and then included the new products in the promotion.

It would appear that Apple's product releases are not dependent on the timing of these promotions. The promotions usually run at the same time each year, but the product releases happen all over the calendar.

And then there's the situation where they introduce the promotion and the new products at the same time. For example, this year and last year the new Macs and promotion started at the same time.

I am really a fan of iPad pros. Haven’t been excited for a Mac product in a long time. Skipped on the last few iPhones because they really felt like a cash grab lol. So do these iPad pros but seriously they Are amazing. Especially for us creatives. Expensive tho.

No idea what you’re talking about. I guess you’re just making stuff up?

1) iPad Pro already has those two sizes.

2) the budget iPad is rumored to be getting a slightly larger screen (9.7 —> 10.2), presumably from a bezel shrink. My guess is the physical size stays the same.

3) iPad mini 5—at 7.9” the same size as minis 1,2,3 and 4—was released 4 months ago. You won’t see an update for 3 or 4 years.

There was a question mark behind my sentence, as in a question, not a statement.

I am implying the 10.2" Doesn't make sense, or at least very un Apple. You have 10.2" iPad, 10.5" iPad Air, 11" iPad Pro,
And if they have a smaller bezel for iPad, they might as well make a smaller bezel version of iPad mini in the future as well.

I hope Ming is wrong on this one.

The iPad like needs consolidated.

A small, medium and large. That's it.
I agree. Something along the following:

iPad (9.7") - Focused towards content consumption
iPad Pro (11" & 12.9") - Focused towards content creation

All of these should utilize the Liquid Retina Display & FaceID

The big innovation going forward in the near term is the software. iPadOS is a whole new ballgame.

Maybe they will just siphon features from macOS to iPadOS and call it innovation updates. The hardware is top notch what else is left to improve.

Apple needs a mini iPad Pro, discontinue the 9.7 and 10.5” models replace it with the 10.2” model, increase the screen or reduce the physical size of the mini and keep the pro line as is with the intro of a mini Pro.

But it looks like the 10.2 will replace the 9.7 so it's not going to add up. The "new" 10.5 iPad...I think its one of those classic cases where not all rumour information are correct (shocker) and it's just the next Air revision. If they are at the point that they can use the slimmer bezels format from non-Face ID Pros in the cheaper models, they will obviously use the same format for the Air, so same screen size, smaller footprint, "new" model but not really new, simply updated form factor for iPad Air.
I agree, the 10.2 surely replaces the 9.7.

But the “new” 10.5 (non-Pro) that CoinX referred to in the tweet shown in the article has already been released, the iPad Air 3 last March 18, 2019. The tweet was 5 days before the Air 3/Mini 5 release date.

The next two or three updates to the 10.5 Air 3 I’d expect to be the same form factor as the current Air 3, with upgrades to various internal components. But since the Air 3 just came out four months ago, I’m sure it won’t be updated until sometime next year.

I just hope by the time I need to upgrade my 10.5" Pro, the regular non-Pro iPads can have the quad stereo speakers. Love the speakers on the Pro iPads, but I don't need the higher price tag.

Too many versions of iPads with little differences. I feel like we’re going pre-Jobs Apple with so many models that confused consumers.

It seems to be a little confusing for the consumer to have 10.2,10.5, 11 inch models all at once. They need to decide on sizes and stick with it.
I really don’t understand the source of all the confusion. Certainly no one will confuse the small $399 Mini for the very large, $999 iPad Pro. That leaves 3 models in the middle, of approximately the same size. In most cases, the customer will make their purchase decision based upon price.

  • $329: A low-cost, basic entry level model, mostly for education, kids and those on a tight budget. 10.2”
  • $499: A somewhat more expensive model, but worth it if it fits your budget. 10.5”
  • $799: A rather expensive, top of the line, spare no expense premium model. 11.0”

Is that complicated? Confusing? Walk me through a scenario where a customer walks in to buy an iPad and is somehow confused or can’t understand which to buy.

Good: iPad, $329, 9.7” (soon to be 10.2”)
Better: iPad Air, $499, 10.5”
Best: iPad Pro, $799, 11.0”

But sure, I guess three choices can be overwhelming and make at least a few heads explode; no doubt some people will have trouble deciding. I’ve been behind those people at McDonald’s. They can’t decide whether they want a $2 double cheeseburger, a $3.50 Big Mac or a $6.00 “Signature Crafted” white cheddar on a “artisan” brioche bun

2017 10.5 iPad Pro still going strong.

The only thing that would make me switch is having Pencil 2 on the new, cheaper models.

The current iPad Pro is just too expensive for me.

A 17" iPad Pro would be terrific. I would buy it in a heartbeat. The current 12.9" iPad Pro is a bit too cramped for viewing two pdf documents side by side.
Love it. I think I too would be tempted by a larger iPad— 15-17”. 12.9 already requires 2 hands, so go big or go home! There are even some that would buy a 27” iPad Pro if they could get one— a stationary “desktop” iPad if you will, but could still be more “transportable” than an iMac even.

There was a question mark after my sentence too. :)

Right now it’s 9.7, 10.5, 11.0. It’s not much of a stretch to think it could become 10.2, 10.5, 11.0. Still segmented by price (not screen size): $329, $499, $799, which pretty much makes the customer’s decision for them.

Why is a $329 10.2 model any more “un-Apple” than a $329 9.7” model? I don't get why you think 9.7—>10.2 doesn’t make sense.

re: the mini, it was purposefully left exactly the same form factor because it’s used with a lot of point of sale sleds (Honeywell, Verifone etc.) and other accessories that would be obsolete if the physical size changed.

Sure maybe it could get an ~8.3” screen at some point but based on the vertical markets it’s used in it seems there would be limited utility in a slightly larger screen. The mini sells in comparatively low numbers so there’s a lot fewer units to amortize costs of a redesign across, I really don’t expect a mini 6 anytime soon; look how long it took to get the mini 5

My best guess -> ARKit 3 support upgrades for the 6th generation iPad (starting at 64GB).

The iPad mini and iPad Air already have the required A12 microprocessor.

Because it is a confusing line up in terms of Screen Size. That is looking at it from a Screen Size Perspective. Now if you look at it from a Price point segmentation it makes perfect sense, but Apple historically has also have their product line with minimal screen size options. Screen size changes used to be a big deal, Apple stick to 13.3" Screen Macbook for the last decades and refuse to adopt the popular and cheaper 14", desperate using them in previous iBook era.

This is both a good thing and bad thing, with this mentality it means we will finally get lot more choices with screen size and variation. And more changes coming ahead. As with the rumours of yet another change in iPhone Screen Size and MacBook Pro 16".

Changes are good, but also uneasy, I guess I am getting old.

Man, Apple is just changing up the ipads like crazy the last few years... what was wrong with the 9.7" being the low cost version? now you will have 10.2", then 10.5" air, 11" pro?

Way too much confusion of what's what.

Remember when Jobs came back to Apple and he said there were so many Mac models that even he couldn't tell them apart...

Tim Apple needs money so he's throwing all the rubbish products out. lol

I can only imagine that they are getting better deals from the display manufacturers for these minor size differences instead of sticking with a standard set of sizes. Same with the phones.

To add to the confusion is they often continue to sell the previous year's model as well lol

It’s interesting the chosen size is exactly 10.2” according to rumours. The size restriction for free MS Office tablet usage is up to 10.1”.

Is this coincidental, or is it something else?

Apple has registered five unreleased iPad models in the Eurasian Economic Commission database today, including A2068, A2197, A2198, A2228, A2230, according to listings uncovered by MySmartPrice and confirmed by MacRumors.

All of the iPad models are listed as running iPadOS:

On the more imminent front, a recent rumor suggested that mass production of a new 10.2-inch iPad was set to begin this month, so a launch could be near. The 10.2-inch model, dubbed the iPad 7, is expected to be a slightly larger, slimmer bezel successor to the low-cost 9.7-inch iPad, which was last updated in March 2018.

The source of the 10.2-inch iPad rumor, CoinX, has an accurate track record. The mystery account previously tweeted the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR names of the 2018 iPhones before anyone else, and also accurately revealed the 10.5-inch iPad Air, the 2018 iPad Pro being 5.9mm thick, and more.

Looking farther out, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that two new iPad Pro models will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020. The current iPad Pro models were released in October 2018.

Eurasian Economic Commission filings like these have foreshadowed the release of new Apple products on numerous occasions, including multiple iPad, iPad Pro, iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods models. The filings are legally required for any encrypted devices sold in Russia and select other countries.

[doublepost=1562873592][/doublepost]Just Apple screwing around so they can jack the price on the basic iPad. I paid $400 for all my iPads. When it came out for $329 I jumped. I will be replacing my wife’s air next month while still available for the good price. Then probably go to used iPads like I do iPhones.

Just like very few care that the iPhone has the best camera, most iPad users don’t want the bells and whistles being added to the iPad.
