There’s not nearly enough notch in that product photo for my liking.

Ahh, so much better.

When the Mac mini is updated can the crowd unleash deafening applause just to make a point.

I personally couldn't care less about a new Mac mini, but I'd appreciate them finally upgrading it.

There is a reasonably large niche that desperately wants one and Apple has probably already lost a substantial amount of it.

Not so sure about a dead cert. You are probably right but then again wasn't the 2014 mac mini a downgrade from the 2012 model and people were rushing out to buy the 2012 quad core model before it sold out.
I guess the bar for improving from the 2014 model isn't that high.

Not just a downgrade, but they soldered everything inside so the older one was more valuable since you could change the ram and put an SSD inside. I have one with a new fan, ssd, new 16gb ram. Has been working great since I replaced all the insides, before that it was really slow and on the way out. Still can't run basic games at all but it does the job for my mom. I want to see the new one support external gpu, and no soldered parts. But I doubt it.

Until Tim announces that it's gonna cost $1800
[doublepost=1540376159][/doublepost]I'm just dreading the thought that they're gonna hike the prices on the new iPads.

I was thinking that they’d hike prices on every device after they saw it worked just fine with their phones . Start the new entry level laptop at 1500.

I hold zero hope for the Mac Mini, I just think they'll make it smaller and remove all the ports beyond x2 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3. The RAM will be 8GB base and it will be a £180 upgrade to 16GB and £360 for 32GB (from base 8GB) - that's going by the current Mac RAM upgrade pricing structure.

Probably a Mac mini with two thunderbolt USB 3 ports. One for power and one for dongles and even slower MHz option and all soldered disk and memory with a ifixit rating of zero.
[doublepost=1540377660][/doublepost]Also Apple will EOL the previous models with Majave being the last macOS. This is probably why Majave is supported on so many older systems. Once this model is updated they can throw all the desktops older than 4 years under the bus.

It probably also means the 1080p 21.5" iMac will be axed, with the new Mini taking place of the entry position, but what about a display?
The display is the one thing that keeps me from buying an iMac.
If you need the 5K, i can understand it but i can't live without my 34" widescreen though

curious what they do with the iMac. but it's too late. I've got components for a killer PC build in my cart at Newegg. Definitely NOT selling my iMac, but will have a PC to edit 4K video on, soon.

Update the Mac mini but also bloody bring back Front Row. It’s been years but I still haven’t forgiven them! It was all I needed for my projector in my theatre. We have 3 AppleTVs around the house, so running the Mac mini as an iTunes server for those, with Front Row and EyeTV for the Theatre worked perfectly with the projector, covered regular TV and my content all with one simple remote since the projector has no TV tuner. Maxed out with 1TB PCI-E ssd stick and 4TB 2.5” Samsung SSD in “Fusion” it is more than happy, and would happily upgrade again for more processing and graphics power.

They should of course make it available with 4, 6 or 8 cores, plenty of USB-C and Thunderbolt ports, (to enable eGPU) and allow end user replaceable RAM and SSD.

However, I would be very surprised if all the above happens. I am sure they will increase the price, and suddenly it is not so affordable anymore, complicating people's decisions. It will probably turn out just like a "macbook pro" but without a screen, where the higher end tier, having 16 GB of integrated RAM, will force the user to upgrade to a more expensive integrated SSD, and higher clocked CPU, ending up at > $2000. It's probably quite predictable by now.

It shouldn't be so hard to figure out what an attractive Mac mini is, it's just that it doesn't fit into Apple's picture of keeping profits and obsoleteness high.

About A1932: I found a case/skin listing on Amazon that claims it fits 13" MBA models A1369, A1466, and A1932.

Looking forward to finally seeing what this 13" MacBook will be, i think i'll be happy either way. If Apple make a 13" version of the current MacBook i'll be happy, if they update the Air with a retina display, reduce the bezels and add up to date specs, I'll be happy.

What i won't be happy with is if they just update the Air's specs and nothing else. Personally i'm leaning towards them adding a 13" MacBook option, i tend to lean more towards what Ming Chi Kuo is saying and he also says that the new MacBook will have Touch ID, that will be interesting.

Also looking forward to seeing what they bring to the iMac and the BIG update that the iPad Pro is going to get, the 30th should be a great event for both Mac and iPad Pro :)

Very outstanding effort! Interesting that A1993 was also in iPad listing, perhaps it is a Mac without an intel chip?

but what about a display?
They have two perfectly good LG 4K and 5k displays on the books, and they’ve never made a display specifically for the Mini - the idea was always “bring your own display and keyboard”. That’s part of the reason some people want a mini rather than an iMac or laptop.

Actually I don’t think they have made a “desktop focussed” display since the long-lamented 30” Cinema Display - the subsequent “LED Cinema & Thunderbolt Displays” were, first and foremost, docking stations for the MacBook Pros.

They did say that they were making a display for the Mythical Modular Mac Pro - but that could be something exotic like 8k and/or integrated GPU.

Personally, I’d still be unsurprised if the rumoured “new Pro-focussed Mini” turned out to be the Mythical Modular Mac Pro, because I can’t see why they would launch both, and if they don’t at least preview the Pro soon then I can’t imagine who will still be around to buy it.

4 new models could just be 2 sizes of “affordable” laptop each in 2 major configurations - I suspect the Air/Non-TB replacement (plus iPads) are the strongest possibilities next week.

My guess is the Mac Mini will be discontinued with a replacement of some sort being introduced but at a much higher price point. The MacBook Air replacement will be more expensive too is my guess. As to if it will be good value we will find out!

So if it’s just one laptop what does that mean? Is it one laptop to replace the MBA, MB and non-TB MBP? On Gruber’s latest podcast he said they could update the Air and still keep the MB around as an executive laptop. That makes no sense to me. No one is going to buy the MB if a new Air comes out with a retina screen starting at $999. Apple will probably update the Air with a screen that’s better than the current Air but not as good as the MB and MBP and then still keep the MB in the lineup. I think that would be a disaster and the lineup would be confusing as ever but they’d shut up everyone complaining about the crappy screen on the Air. I hope I’m wrong and the new laptop will combine the Air and MB into one product. But it’s probably easier to just update the screen on the Air, slap a $999 price tag on it and call it a day.
