The cheapest version of a Lenovo X1 (Full HD) is not that expensive.

Yeah but you cited 32GB RAM blah blah, what point are you trying to make? Is it that you can get more powerful hardware for cheaper with a Windows laptop, or that you need those specs for your workflow?

If it's the former, that's always been the case. If it's the latter, then you shouldn't be looking at the Air.

Don't get your hopes up, people. They will do the absolute minimum to keep the Mac lineup alive.
Yes sadly,Mac will eventually die,low margins for them vs iOS devices and they want iOS to replace it.they will keep it alive for now with small updates but that’s the way it’s going.

Until Tim announces that it's gonna cost $1800
[doublepost=1540376159][/doublepost]I'm just dreading the thought that they're gonna hike the prices on the new iPads.
I would expect the new Mac mini to start at ~$999 USD, but with enough BTO options, you will probably be able to take it all the way to $2499. The current Mac mini can be optioned all the way up to $1999 for i7/16GB/1TB SSD.

I am hoping they do not hike the price of the iPad Pros either. Widening the gap any further between the 6th Gen iPad and the base 10.5” iPad Pro, which is almost double the cost ($649 vs $329) as it is now, would really do more harm than good in increasing the iPad user base. The iPad Air 2 started at $499, but when the 9.7” iPad Pro was released, Apple increased the price $100. The increased it a further $50 when the 10.5” was released. I know they essentially decreased the price of the iPad Air 2 to $329 when they released the 5th Generation iPad, but they took away the laminated display and reverted to the iPad Air chassis, which really did not sit well with a lot of people. I have one, and I love it, but then again, I owned an iPad Air, so never missed the Air 2’s ultra thin size.

Hard to do, but we have to hope for the best.

I personally couldn't care less about a new Mac mini, but I'd appreciate them finally upgrading it.

There is a reasonably large niche that desperately wants one and Apple has probably already lost a substantial amount of it.

The Mac mini, like the iPad mini, has a very vocal minority of followers along with some very specific vertical market segments that want these particular products. Of the two, the iPad mini probably has a better chance of long term survival just because Apple wants to sell as many iPads to the Entererprise market as it can, and the mini is very popular in certain sectors where the iPad is simply too big.

I do not think Apple has lost those niches yet, because there are really no competitors for them. Intel has the NUC, but they are not a major PC OEM and the iPad mini has zero competition from Google as the Android OS just does not have a good tablet experience. However, the Surface Go may have woken Apple up just a bit, at least with the iPad mini.

We shall see very soon!

Let's hope the new iMacs look like this:

I am reasonably sure they are going to look like this: https://www.apple.com/imac/

I’m praying for a redesigned iMac. I mean, the current design is fine, butttt my current 1 is 8 years old and I want a new one ASAP.

If I get this new one and they redesign it next year instead, i’ll Be upset haha.

I think next year will be Mac Pro focused though. And this year iMac / Mac Mini.

hopefully they release something worth buying, I feel like the last good computer was the 2010 air when it was released. Since then every redesign has not been a positive change. Just changer to make them thinner, less upgradable and fewer ports

An ARM Mac? that would be a surprise! a "one more thing" maybe!

I think something like that would get a preview, possibly at a WWDC, so that developers could start their compilers. Launching an ARM system without a decent range of software on day one would be suicidal, because ARM is not going to be brilliant at running x86 emulation. Unless that’s the real idea behind “project marzipan” - use iOS software as the USP for an ARM-based Mac.

Frankly, although I’m not in a buying mood right now, an ARM-based Mac Mini (though unlikely) probably would have me reaching for my wallet out of curiosity and nostalgia (I was into Acorn’s ARM-based workstations in the 80s/90s).

Ok - let’s call the long shot: Apple TV-like Darwin ARM box aimed at the Raspberry Pi “maker” hobby/education market. :)

I would not expect anything ARM until WWDC 2019, when Apple can discuss the transition from Intel to ARM with software developers. For this reason, I don't expect a Mac Mini at this event. I believe Apple will use the Mini as a guinea pig for their transition plans and offer it to developers as a software development platform.

I didn't expect it, but it looks like the iMac will be getting a redesign of some sort.

Notice how the model identifier for Mac Mini have remained the same for 2010/2011/2012/2014.

- 2010 was the year when the SuperDrive was dropped. All designs have been the same since.

Notice how the model identifier for iMac 21.5 and 27 have been the same for 2012/2013/2014/2015/2017?

Even though the iMac had a proper update in 2014 with a new Retina Display as well as new peripherals in 2015, notice that the model identifier only changed in 2012 when the new, thinner designs were released.

New model IDs should mean a physical change, judging by that pattern, right?

Could be a minor one, but still, I didn't expect that!

I would not expect anything earth-shattering from an iMac update, but I think this is more likely than the reveal of a new Mac Mini in what is very likely a creative content event which showcases new iPads. Unfortunately, I think the days of showcasing new Intel Mac hardware are over. The next big reveal will be ARM. If we're lucky, the Mac Pro will have both Intel and ARM; otherwise, it will simply be a modular Mini-style computer which runs "professional" software from Apple and Adobe. *Blah*

They will all be too busy complaining about what it has, doesn't have, should have, should not have, etc.
If it's anything like that 2014 "upgrade" the complaints will be warranted. Modern components with the I/O of a headless computer and I doubt there will be many complaints... 'cept if it's soldered into oblivion again.

It's not inconceivable that Apple also plans to give its MacBook Pro lineup a processor bump.
Really? to what chips? Unless they sidegrade to AMD Chips they are already running the latest intel has to offer. The very first 9th gen chips are just starting to appear and they aren’t ones suitable for MacBooks...

If I want to run macOS on the Lenovo I will need the ram. Btw, I will actually be able to upgrade the ram if I want. Also, if I want to, I can change the M.2 storage if I ever need to, imagine that? And I get a GREAT keyboard.

Surely the problems with the current i9 and the overheating/throttling issues are going to mean that stuffing something even more powerful and energy consuming into that svelte shell is going to be even more of an issue. I'm wondering more along the lines of that if they are looking at more iOS integration in the future, we might even start seeing (sigh!) touchscreen MBPs at some stage.

I was thinking the same thing - but I think the only move here is to upgrade the non-Touch Bar versions to new chips. I just bought a 2018 15" a couple weeks ago (and I'm still in the return window, JUST in case).

Okay, I'm happy for you? It's quite clear what Apple's mentality is with modular laptops. You're entitled to disagree with this, though I don't see how a new MacBook Air (which is what you stated in your original post) would rectify this.

I don't see the relation between a new MBA (or lack-thereof) and you buying a Lenovo. It sounds like the Lenovo was always the machine for you, hence my confusion.

Much like the dog that unexpectedly catches that car he's chasing, what will the die-hard maybe-this-time-a-new-mini-will-be-announced folks do if one is indeed announced?
