An ARM Mac? that would be a surprise! a "one more thing" maybe!
I think something like that would get a preview, possibly at a WWDC, so that developers could start their compilers. Launching an ARM system without a decent range of software on day one would be suicidal, because ARM is not going to be brilliant at running x86 emulation. Unless that’s the real idea behind “project marzipan” - use iOS software as the USP for an ARM-based Mac.

Frankly, although I’m not in a buying mood right now, an ARM-based Mac Mini (though unlikely) probably would have me reaching for my wallet out of curiosity and nostalgia (I was into Acorn’s ARM-based workstations in the 80s/90s).

Ok - let’s call the long shot: Apple TV-like Darwin ARM box aimed at the Raspberry Pi “maker” hobby/education market. :)

I'm in a buying Mac and iPad Pro mood, i have been for a while, so much so that it's been frustrating that Apple is taking this long to update the Macs. I just want a 13" MacBook or MacBook Air with retina display and thinner bezels, either one of those would be fine by me.

If there is a Mac mini release it will probably be priced higher than the current mini making it far less interesting for the folks who have been longing for its return.

The model designations:

A1347: MacMini 2010/11/12/14
A1418: iMac 21.5 2012/13/14/15/17 and iMac Retina 21.5 2015/17
A1419: iMac 27 2012/13 and iMac Retina 27 2014/15/17
A1481: MacPro 2013
A1862: iMacPro 2017
A1993: New - but was also spotted in iPad filings!
A2115: New
A2116: New
...
A1466: MBA13 2012/13/14/15/17
A1534: rMB12 2015/16/17
A1708: MBP13 wo/TB 2017
A1932: New - spotted in an Amazon case listing
A1989: MBP13 w/TB 2018
A1990: MBP14 2018

About A1932: I found a case/skin listing on Amazon that claims it fits 13" MBA models A1369, A1466, and A1932.
Excellent work.

Re: A1993 listed in iPad filings, someone discovered reference in iOS12 to the yet-to-be-released iPad Pro being able to output to an external display via USB-C port.

A1993 must be a display.

Best guess, an Apple-ified version of the ugly LG/Apple-approved 4K or 5k displays.

Very much doubt it, all that's expected is a spec update at this point.

I didn't expect it, but it looks like the iMac will be getting a redesign of some sort.

Notice how the model identifier for Mac Mini have remained the same for 2010/2011/2012/2014.

- 2010 was the year when the SuperDrive was dropped. All designs have been the same since.

Notice how the model identifier for iMac 21.5 and 27 have been the same for 2012/2013/2014/2015/2017?

Even though the iMac had a proper update in 2014 with a new Retina Display as well as new peripherals in 2015, notice that the model identifier only changed in 2012 when the new, thinner designs were released.

New model IDs should mean a physical change, judging by that pattern, right?

Could be a minor one, but still, I didn't expect that!

Hmmm... what if the Mac mini is actually the 'modular' Mac Pro. It's simply a box with powerful cooling, lots of ports and accepts a range of CPUs. You can buy a base dual- or quad-CPU as a 'Mac mini', or spec it into a beast with a pair of 10, 14 or 18-core etc. CPUs as a 'Mac Pro'. Then you buy a GPU enclosure to plug into (or physically connects with it?) with whichever GPU you want/Apple wants you to buy. The cooling might be overkill at the bottom end, but Apple only has to make one box. After all, they managed to fit single multi-core chips into the slimline enclosure of the iMac Pro...

They sell the base box, you spec it how you like and can upgrade it - from Apple of course - as you see fit. Just a thought.

The quote: faster processors are a dead cert.

Had me going there. I had to look up "cert" which I have never seen used in any context. Turns out that in this case this is a British term that means a certainty, which is what I figured. Also turns out that the writer is from Liverpool, which sort of explains everything.

Excellent work.

Now, I don't speak any Russian, but it seems to me that ALL those codes, including the A1993 are running MacOS 10.14, and that rules out any iPads and accessories...right?

Im pretty sure people have this 999 pricing way off. The current Macbook 12” is 1249. Apple launching a Macbook 13.3” (cannibalising the Air 13.3” and Macbook 12”) and then reducing prices by 250 over the current Macbook 12, doesn’t make sense.

They’ll upgrade the internals of the 12” and keep the price at 1249, new 13.3” will be 1449 And replace the non touchbar MacBook Pro.

iPad Pros with USB C are lined up to take the sub 1000 market.

Update the Mac mini but also bloody bring back Front Row. It’s been years but I still haven’t forgiven them! It was all I needed for my projector in my theatre. We have 3 AppleTVs around the house, so running the Mac mini as an iTunes server for those, with Front Row and EyeTV for the Theatre worked perfectly with the projector, covered regular TV and my content all with one simple remote since the projector has no TV tuner. Maxed out with 1TB PCI-E ssd stick and 4TB 2.5” Samsung SSD in “Fusion” it is more than happy, and would happily upgrade again for more processing and graphics power.

Yeah, I miss those days too. My 2009 Mac Mini media centre is still serving up 1080p content (even though it sadly doesn't have the GPU horsepower to play it - that's what my AppleTV is for). I stopped using EyeTV after there were no plans to support DVB-T2 (the HD broadcasting standard for FreeView HD in the UK). I know technology moves forwards, but I do miss the days of having a fully customisable media centre with a Mac Mini at its heart.

Of course there will be a new MacBook Air.

I'll be back on here to gloat to all you naysayers. See you next Tuesday! ;)

Taking any bets on what’s courageously removed this year? Right mouse button clicks? The ESC or Q key? Maybe the space bar since you can just tap or special-swipe the nearby trackpad?

As pessimistic as I am, my hopes are starting to rise regarding the mini. I know I shouldn't be hopeful since I have been hopeful and subsequently disappointed for a number of years now. Alas, hope springs eternal. This year dammit, Lucy's gonna hold that football and I'm gonna kick it.
/crosses fingers

Yep me too. This is Apple's last chance. If they screw up the Mac Mini (again) I'm going the Hackintosh route, until I can plan my exit from MacOS/iOS altogether.

You may have a point, are the model numbers completely different? If so do we even know they are iMacs? I’d love a completely new iMac redesign (after all it was the 20th anniversary earlier this year) but I’m just being realistic at this point.
