A new iPod Touch would be interesting to see, I have a lot of friends that get them for there kids for taking pictures, music and iMessage with WiFi. I have an iPhone 8+ and I would almost buy a 256gb iPod Touch to replace the 160 gb iPod Classic I keep in my car.

Me too, I have an iPhone 8+ 64GB, and would like to have a 256GB or even 512GB iPod touch as my music device.

When the first iPhone came out, I knew I wanted one. It did so many things that I'd wanted my cell phone to do. In the first few models that followed that, more useful features were added, making iPhones more appealing.

But now? Year after year, Apple brings out new models that offer nothing new of value. You see that in the list of possibilities for these new phones. It's all about screens and charging. How ridiculously meaningless. A little bigger or a little smaller matters little. And the Lightning connector works so well that starting recharging takes perhaps a second longer than placing it on a wireless pad.

How about real improvements Apple. How about an EL for Extended Life model with twice the battery life for those on the go. How about a Sport model that's ruggedized to Milspecs like many of today's digital devices? How about building in an SDR chip that'd give iPhones world-ready TV and radio reception? How about a system that'd screen out spam calls, my #1 irritation?

No, all we get from Apple is the removal of useful items like ports, the addition of silly stuff like that laptop ribbon, and the addition of features that make no difference in actual use like visual ID. Its grown so bad, that the last genuinely useful feature that Apple added to any of its products was TouchID years ago.

Is that sad or pitiful? Probably both. Genuine innovation has deserted Apple.

Well they are discontinuing the iPhone X as production has already been slashed, iPhone X (RED) and Gold canceled. So maybe the SKUs are already included for the replacement for possibly a slightly early fall release?

I guess it is possible they'll release the X Gold an (RED) models after all, but that seems doubtful from production reports.

It looks like Apple finally got the knowledge to make the stainless steel band in red that they would like. Rumor is that they spent over $100 million on R&d research and came out with nothing and someone on the internet told them how to do it for free! LOL!

The competition is stronger than ever. They can't afford to wait until Fall. They'll release new iPhones but the flagship which will be announced and/or released as usual in September.

If they do release an iPhone SE 2 (which is most likely what this registered iPhone is), I hope they keep the same body.

SE2 with FaceID would be nice. They don't need to put a notch in the screen - just take the current top/bottom bezels and shrink them. You get to keep the phone the same size as the SE, but with a slightly larger screen.

I see people complain about this often, but don't understand it. From a customer perspective, why is the number of SKUs an issue? Wouldn't having the choice of multiple phones be more beneficial? How is this a negative?
There is something to be said of simplicity. IMO they should just have 3 different sizes of the same phone and offer the previous generation as a value device.

Wonder if Tim is happy about this “Russian FCC” (that calls itself “Eurasian” as a disguise, genius, news sites totally fall for it, some sites even somehow came up with “European” in the title which is very wtf in the current climate) spoiling every release...doubling down on filings...

With rumours of the X not selling too well (as it's so expensive) and the 8 and 8 Plus not selling too well either (they're basically the same as the 7 except the 7 is much cheaper), I wonder if they might've accelerated the roll-out of the iPhone 9? I.e. the rumoured phones similar to the X but with LCD screens and aluminium bodies.

And almost certainly one set of the those SKUs is the SE2.

That might explain there being x9 SKUs:

  • x3 SE2
  • x3 iPhone 9
  • x3 iPhone 9 Plus

I guess that won't leave Apple with much of a September event regarding iPhones with just the successor of the X rolling out (and there's still the Watch, iPad Pro and AirPods).

Maybe Sept 17-Sept 18 will be a little bit of a blip here and normal service will be resumed in 2019. and perhaps launching phones in this quarter will smooth out Apple's quarters a little bit (regarding revenue).

And finally, it was only with the iPhone 4S that autumn phone launches suddenly became regular - the 3G, 3GS and 4 were all launched at WWDC.

These could be color variations, could be tests, could be decoys. Could be anything. What I am having a hard tiem understanding is - 3 phones in September???? I would have thought you keep your existing X and just add a X PLUS option (which is what I would upgrade to).
From my observation, a ton of people who are used to the form factor of the larger phone did not want to "upgrade" to a smaller phone with the X (myself included). If they give me a X with the dimensions of a plus I am game. I just don't understand the "budget" option with the LCD, but I guess you gotta introduce options to entice everyone.
