Wonder if Tim is happy about this “Russian FCC” (that calls itself “Eurasian” as a disguise, genius, news sites totally fall for it, some sites even somehow came up with “European” in the title which is very wtf in the current climate) spoiling every release...doubling down on filings...
While dominated by Russia, the Eurasian Economic Union, with its member states Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyztan and Armenia, forms a single market with a free flow of goods, services, capital and people. And as such also needs regulatory bodies that, among many things, also certify electronic devices. As such it is, on the face of it, similar to the European Union even if to some degree it is partially re-creating the Sowjet Union (with willing members) or if you want, the Russian empire.

These could be color variations.
Not really, the new 9.7" iPads were filed under two numbers (WiFi & LTE versions) despite being available in three colours each.

I know.
I’d wager Armenia isn’t in charge and the whole thing has not exactly EU-grade democratic standards.

Well, i like the idea of a new SE, but June being so close to September, I would wait to see what else is on the menu before ordering.

11 model numbers for an iPhone SE? OK SURE.
  • iPhone SE 2 in 32/128GB
  • iPad Pro 10.5" in 64/256/512GB
  • iPad Pro 12.9" in 64/256/512GB
  • iPad Mini or iPod Touch in 32/128/256GB
Otherwise, if Apple releases all new iPhone models in the summer I hope they allow us upgrade program customers to upgrade early. I wouldn't mind getting a better version of Face ID early. I just don't see that happening, though.

Apple hasn't properly refreshed the iPhone SE since it launched back in March 2016, although it did double the available storage capacities to 64GB and 128GB in March 2017.
Wait what? Since when Apple made the baseline SE 64GB? It’s still 32GB. The only iPhones with 64GB baseline are the 8/8 Plus and X.
Many tech you tubers and bloggers are also making that wrong assumption. It’s as if nobody bothered to just go and check Apple’s website.

All SKUs are for Apple Smartphones not tablets.

French website Consomac has discovered a new Russian-language regulatory filing in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) database pointing towards several unreleased iPhone models that Apple could be launching relatively soon.

Versions of iPhone running iOS 11 are listed with the model numbers A1920, A1921, A1984, A2097, A2098, A2099, A2101, A2103, A2104, A2105 and A2106. None of the numbers correspond to Apple's existing smartphone lineup.

The EEC filing, published on Tuesday, satisfies Russia's requirement for companies to register all products containing encryption and/or cryptographic tools. On February 19, the EEC revealed the existence of two new models of iPad, which proved to be the Wi-Fi and cellular versions of Apple's 9.7-inch iPad unveiled on March 27, so there's a decent chance the new model numbers identify iPhones tipped for a May or June launch. Several new models of MacBook were also registered with the EEC in May of last year, and those laptops were announced at WWDC 2017.

Apple is rumored to be introducing three flagship iPhones in 2018: Two OLED models measuring in at 5.8 and 6.5 inches and a 6.1-inch lower-cost LCD model. All three will feature Face ID and edge-to-edge displays, but none are expected to arrive before the usual September timeframe when Apple's major annual iPhone event typically takes place.

However, rumors suggest Apple will bring a new entry-level smartphone model to market similar to the iPhone SE that will support wireless charging and be released in time for summer 2018.

Apple hasn't properly refreshed the iPhone SE since it launched back in March 2016, although it did double the available storage capacities to 64GB and 128GB in March 2017. A May/June launch would put it within touching distance of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, which starts on June 8, although Apple hasn't launched an iPhone at WWDC in the last seven years, the last announcement being the iPhone 4 in 2010.

The SE was great because it had the 6s chip 6 months after the 6s launched. Doubt we will be so lucky this time around to get latest. On the other hand it would be launching 9 months after the last iPhone release so there is hope.

Also there is a chance they launch a 2nd SE model with a bigger screen.

But at the same time we do know they will be launching new iPad pros in June. Where are the model numbers for those?

Dear Tim - Can we PLEASE have a new MBP/Laptop with at least 32GB RAM ( 64 would be even better) and 4TB SSD ? You can get rid of the EmojiBar to make room for it

Well they are discontinuing the iPhone X as production has already been slashed, iPhone X (RED) and Gold canceled. So maybe the SKUs are already included for the replacement for possibly a slightly early fall release?
Dream on. iPhone X makes more than one third of _all_ profits of the whole smartphone industry combined. That's really a product Apple would discontinue.

Apple doesn't make iPods anymore. Check the Apple website. Silently discontinued.
Guess what. They are there. On page 2.
"A8 chip, 8MP camera, 5 stunning colours."

I bet it’s SE2 with iPhone 7’s cpu. Zzzzzz.

Hope it’s at least a11 bonic.

It's not gonna be the A11. It'll be the A10 so it doesn't outshine the iPhone 7 they still sell. And you're really kidding yourself if you think they'd put the A11 Bionic in it. That'd totally kill sales of the current 8. Not a move they're going to make.

I hate Face ID.

I want the fingerprint verification back. It works bad laying on the table, in the sun or anywhere else where you dont keep it right in front of your face.

Then people will be upset their hands can’t have gloves, be wet, dirty etc. Hoping for a day when it’s built into the display!

It looks like Apple finally got the knowledge to make the stainless steel band in red that they would like. Rumor is that they spent over $100 million on R&d research and came out with nothing and someone on the internet told them how to do it for free! LOL!

Don't hold your breath on that. Or better yet, do. That doesn't even qualify as a "rumor."

iPhone 9!

Yeah. :) It is completely fascinating to think about what Apple will do with the currently-missing number, if anything.

My iPhone SE is 64gb.

Bought at release.

If my memory is correct, it was released as 16 and 64 gb models, and these were refreshed to 32 and 128..?

It's going to be really interesting to see if they still keep 32GB as the entry level model for the SE2 and 9 series (if it's called that).

I suspect yes.

Many people just want a few apps and to carry a few photos and videos on the phone plus a bit of music. For that 32GB is more than enough.

Not to mention that many people are really budget conscious. Even if you're middle class in a developing world country, the SE is still a pretty expensive device for you.

I wonder then what the SKUs are for the SE2?:

  • 32/64/256?
  • 32/128/256?
  • 32/128/256?
64GB is probably the sweet spot for most people in 2018 so I'm hoping that 32/64/256 will be the SKUs i.e.

  • 32 (budget conscious/just wants a new phone to use and carry a few photos, a few pieces of music, shoot a video or two and have a few apps on them)
  • 64 - most people & thus the highest selling phone (enough storage not to care about/manage how much photos, videos and music are on the device, at a reasonable enough price)
  • 256 - power users, most expensive device but hey, these people need to shoot lots of 4k video and/or carry around their entire photo and music library around with them plus a tonne of downloaded Netflix videos. Oh and about 100 apps)

Special solid gold kleptocrat Edition iPhone X. And the 16 GB iPhone SE for everyone else, in four different shades of gray.

With rumours of the X not selling too well (as it's so expensive) and the 8 and 8 Plus not selling too well either (they're basically the same as the 7 except the 7 is much cheaper), I wonder if they might've accelerated the roll-out of the iPhone 9? I.e. the rumoured phones similar to the X but with LCD screens and aluminium bodies.

And almost certainly one set of the those SKUs is the SE2.

That might explain there being x9 SKUs:

  • x3 SE2
  • x3 iPhone 9
  • x3 iPhone 9 Plus

I guess that won't leave Apple with much of a September event regarding iPhones with just the successor of the X rolling out (and there's still the Watch, iPad Pro and AirPods).

Maybe Sept 17-Sept 18 will be a little bit of a blip here and normal service will be resumed in 2019. and perhaps launching phones in this quarter will smooth out Apple's quarters a little bit (regarding revenue).

And finally, it was only with the iPhone 4S that autumn phone launches suddenly became regular - the 3G, 3GS and 4 were all launched at WWDC.

hmm - would catch a lot of people out that would not have contracts expiring until September. But maybe they reset 'normal' iphones to June (and future normal ipads); then in fall they have the 'X' range - iphones and ipad pros with higher end tech?
