So does the keyboard cover I got for my Surface 3. Actual, moving, clicking keys. The older Surface RT I just sold on eBay had a cloth covered keyboard with flat keys.

You are right they have both in fact. But all the MS patents relate to the flat one. Logitech have had a normal keyboard for tablets for 5 years.
 
What I want is pretty simple, and I think it could be done:
A modular keyboard solution. You can buy a keyboard, numpad and trackpad separately (all wireless and backlit) and you can just click them together if you want to. You should be able to charge them both seperatly and at the same time as a unit.
 
I didn't say that the iPad Air with KB was more innovative. Where are you getting that?

I just said that the Microsoft Surface with KB was NOT innovative.

Trying to work out what innovation is for you ? So how is the iPad pro innovation? Do you think it is ?

I believe the surface pro was innovative , a full OS tablet, that can replace a pic. The surface rt was junk.
