People defending the EU in this thread are ALSO upset that Apple isn’t allowing side loading and requiring alternative app stores in the first place and noting they hope the EU strikes that down.
The EU isnt going to tell how apple has to act thay will just set the legislation and let apple take the best course.
I think alternative app stores is a fine solution to the issue as long as apple doesnt control them too much.

No, a "single market" is about an open field across nations.
Its not "a single company" controlling that market. The EU doesnt want monopolies that are over powerfull and thats what this legislation is starting to tackle.
That's weird, because the EU itself is a monopoly that is over powerful. Maybe it should be broken up to keep it in check as well...

LOL, the EU political system isnt a monoploy. Its not even a duopoly as the US has but it has over a hundred different parties represented in it.

SO no not a monopoly at all, nice way to show how clueless you are.
Oh really? So you're saying other European governments can overrule what the EU rules on? Or does the EU have the final say no matter how egregious and no matter what anyone else thinks? Interestingly enough, that sounds like the same kind of setup they're trying to restrict Apple from!

Lol, good.

Now it’s funnier reading the comments at the article above, of people relishing over big bad Epic being banned from the EU.

Rough news day for people who don’t want Fortnite on iOS for some reason.

THAT is what you thought we were upset with?

That's awesome you're starting to see Apple the same way as the EU; everyone needs to limit their overreach!

Self proclaimed saviour of the continent that seeks to create fair market but wants to run farmers into the ground. These people are nuts.

Could you be more specific?
One example: Xbox, PlayStation and Switch all meet the EU definition of gatekeeper but are not subject to the requirements the DMA places on the App Store due to not meeting the market cap requirements. So all of those smaller gatekeepers have the EU’s blessing to do all of the anticompetitive actions with their app stores and operating systems that Apple is not.

Easy example of the EU not creating a single market.

My "existence" doesn't depend on electricity, my quality of life does.
No, in a modern society your “quality of life” will be multiple orders of magnitude worse without electricity than without an iPhone. To the point your existence would depend on it. Sure, if you are willing to live like Ted kascinzky it wouldn’t matter.
TVs can do less than phones, they are not used for 2FA, they are not used for banking, they are not used for GPS, etc... etc...
I can do all that on my computer.
You need a smartphone for most jobs that require security via 2FA, not just a windows laptop.
There are other ways.
Androids existence doesn't in any way negate the way iPhones are used in the real world.
But to your point 2fa is not a quality of life as electricity is. Don’t make 2fa a basis for quality of life. It’s a fake argument.

But you know what? I‘m going on with my life. There‘s a beautiful girl waiting for me at the local theater. I will include you and Tim Cook in my evening prayers.

Have nice evening!

Now if only the big brains in the EU could get together and build something competitive that people actually want to buy!

Rules are really cool, but pretty low/non-existent on the tech proficiency scale.

Y’all want “competitive markets” but it kinda helps to have something to compete with (money losing Spotify notwithstanding) 😉

Keep on celebrating your “win” EU!

Coalition for app fairness has quite a few devs. And some big ones that are generally silent on apple ie match group.

Netflix isn’t a fan, as you can’t buy a subscription through the app.

Question really is : where are the devs who love apple nowadays?

I’m not saying there isn’t. The guy behind widgetsmith seems happy with apple.

But I’m not seeing many large developers who are friendly towards apple.

If you have that littl faith in apple why do you use their products? APple will check these apps stores and wont just allow anyone. I also have aitht hat apple can implmet these without leaving such huge open securtity issues.
Where in anything I said imply I have little faith in Apple? I mentioned that allowing the alternate stores will require opening up the OS. As has been said repeatedly over the last 28 pages there may be no restrictions on the alternate stores. Depending on how literally that is to be taken it could require a big hole

The rest of my post had to do pointing out that one person opting into alternate stores MAY have negative consequences for those who do not.

The exact same commission rates (or less!) than every other software distribution service.
Demonstrably wrong, if you you look at Epic, Microsoft, Paddle, Fastspring or others.
Name ONE EU company that had the software and hardware chops to get it done?

Y’all can enjoy your tech slide into oblivion while playing Fortnight downloaded from the Epic store

You’re a real bunch of “winners” for sure!
Are you trying to make an argument there - or just bashing the European Union?

As someone formerly in the EU, we had an amazing software and hardware industry. This was sold to the Chinese and Americans by the Dutch. And we sold our IP to Japan.

This was done under the gaze of the EU which were strangely missing from the debate.
