Apple Reissuing OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Codes "not recognized as valid code" or "already redeemed"

This really isn't that big of a deal. Yes, it's annoying. I too got an Up-to-Date code when MacRumors announced that the program had gone live. I too couldn't redeem said code when Mountain Lion was released. I too called Apple to find out what was up.
It's not the end of the world. So we have to wait to get a code to download the new OS. Big whoop. It's a free update. We save $20 and in that, we have to wait a bit. Boo hoo.

Right, did it at about 9:30. I don't know when it went live but it had already been live by the time I filled in all the steps. Apple seems to have messed up here. Hopefully it sorts itself out later today. I'm on the GM so I'm not too worried, just trying to get ML linked to my Apple ID.

Still waiting for a correct redemption code... Finally, I've got a replied from Apple stating that the "representative will review your request and send you a personal response, most likely within 24 hours." You have got to be kidding me. I got up early for this!!!

I waited until Mountain Lion was live to get my redemption code, and I still got the error message that the code was already in use from the App Store. How frustrating! I was told I could have to wait upwards of 48 hours for my new one. It's getting to the point that I am just going to buy it. The amount of time I've been waiting, it could already be downloaded and nearly installed.

Same here, this is ridiculous. If they don't send us codes, they better send us refunds.
I can't really download it here at work anyways so hopefully I see it by the end of the day when I get home.

Apple is offering an update for $20 (which used to cost more) and they're saying you can get it free if you bought a computer in the last 30 day. Why don't you chill out and cut them some slack. It's not like there's anything in Mountain Lion that's all of a sudden going to make your life soooo much better.

What is the procedure for applying the redemption code in the App Store? Would I be able to enter it in when I hit the "Buy App" button for ML?
Apologies on if this was already answered somewhere else. Information is sketchy now on this whole redemption process.

You'll get 2 emails. In the first one you'll receive a serial code that will be used to unlock a secure PDF attachment that you'll get in a second email. That second email PDF once unlocked will have the redemption code in it. Once you have the code, go to App Store and click "Redeem".
Question will be when will the codes work and will be really be issued new ones. We've been getting conflicting answers from Apple reps. I've was told 72 hours for new codes to get generated.
PS- I am beginning to really wonder if yesterday's earnings miss is responsible for this hiccup, which invariably will lead some to just purchase it.

i had applied for a code early and found it didn't work this morning. apple just sent me an updated pdf and password to unlock a reissued redemption code for mountain lion. i just tried redeeming it on the app store, and it worked! downloading now...

The reason why we shouldn't "cut them some slack" is because even Apple must have accountability to their customers. It's not a simple matter of the server being slowed down from all the downloads, which would be expected and completely understandable. The problem is that the whole infrastructure of their touted "Up-to-date" program seems flawed. We are not getting Mountain Lion for "free" and shouldn't take a back seat to customers putting down $20 - we paid much more in fact, in my case, as I'm sure is the case for many others, that amount is over $3,000 for my rMBP.
Apple is not a religion and is fair game for poignant criticism when deserved.
Did you have to contact Apple and let them know the first code didn't work? Or did they automatically just send you a new one?
