I'm really at my limit of waiting here. Already got the torrent downloaded. Should I updated with the torrented ML now, and reclaim ML when the code is finally sent to me (if Apple will send at all) or hold on a little longer?

Look on the bright side, at least the update is FREE.

Apple have consistently given me good customer service and at least you can get help and it's not a faceless organisation from a customers point of view.

There maybe a wait for the new codes, but at least Apple responds to and you are in the loop by them rather then wondering if anyone is ever going to answer like some support companies.

This update costs nothing for those lucky enough to have codes or be allowed to request them. Apple did not need to do this and the your Mac is still as good as it was yesterday. Nothing has changed apart from the "want it now" culture that we live in.

A big thank you to Apple and their support staff and please enjoy your Apple's new or old OS. You will get the update in the end.

:)

No. It's not free. I wish people would stop saying that. I paid for a new computer a few weeks ago on the promise I'd be able to get the new OS as soon as it was released. The update is and was never free.

It's been 24 hours and still no code. This is ridiculous. And guess what-- I'm not in the loop from Apple. They haven't sent me an email saying the wait may be longer. They haven't sent me anything.

I do want it now. People have been able to pay $20 since yesterday morning and have downloaded it just fine. But those of us who just paid thousands of dollars are still twiddling our thumbs waiting.

This is MacRumors. This is where we can complain about this kind of stuff with people from all over the world experiencing the same problems. If you don't like it, get off this site.

I'm a long-time (very long-time!) Windows/PC user, who for years resisted even looking at Macs, even though I used to sell them once upon a time (in 1984). I reluctantly bought a MBP 13 a few weeks back for my music studio, and I was pleasantly surprised, the thing actually works OK.

But, with my expectations high, imagine my disappointment when the mighty Apple pulls a Microsoft blunder, and my "free upgrade to Mountain Lion" gets totally screwed up. I got a code yesterday - after OS X 10.8 was released - and when I tried to redeem, I also got one of those "already used" messages. Then I called a support dude at Apple last night who promised to send me my new email "within two hours". I'm still waiting. I'm definitely not going to spend $20, I want my friggin' freebie, and an apology from Cupertino.

Apologies, sorry I did not know that you were spending over $1000 to get a $20 upgrade for an OS.

It's like saying the OS cost over $1000 but you get a free computer you can have earlier as long as your prepared to wait...

Why is the fact you gotta wait a day or so such a big deal ?

Your analogy is flawed as the Up-to-date redemption code problem isn't one of increased data traffic. It's a problem of incorrect code creation or validation after creation, either way has nothing to due with high server usage and should have been tested prior to live launch. The problem won't disappear on it's own in 2-days, as new codes need to be generated and sent out. This is definitely an Apple programming problem.

I guess there are multiple problems as mine is one of never receiving a code after 36 hours. I assume this to be a result of overwhelming demand of Apples resources.

This is getting ridiculous... I've just been bull***ed by 1-800-MY-APPLE

I've submitted my claim yesterday, attaching the purchase receipt (even if it was for a MacBook Pro Retina that automatically is eligible for the UpToDate program), and still haven't received anything.

The interesting part is the conversation I just had with a representative from 1-800-MY-APPLE who could see that my claim had been approved and that Apple allegedly sent me my redemption code at 1:40AM GMT, although I never got that email.

She then said there was nothing I/She could do, but to wait 72 hours, albeit not acknowledging any system issue on their side. After insisting that I would not be told to wait 72 hours without a valid/reasonable explanation (anything but that some magical spirit will notice at some point that I never got an email that they say they sent me and then make sure to resend it...)

She then told me that she was going to re-send it to me on the spot and I still haven't received it.

She then said that I had to call back in 72 hours to get the issue fixed but she still would not acknowledge that Apple was having any issue...

This is completely ridiculous. I already have an issue with the fact that Apple could not program a simple web app that would just validate an AppleID and the range of serial numbers for macs sold within the eligibility period and then simply display a redemption code right away.

What really bugs me is that, OK bad app design/programming can happen, especially when it's an app designed for only a couple weeks in production, but the fact that they can't talk straight and admit they are having issues or contact us by email or at least post a message on the UpToDate program page is insulting.

Submitted my info within 20 mins of receiving the email saying that Mountain Lion was live, still waiting for the first code...

I think think that it is absurd that I have been waiting for a day already and NO word from apple to ANYONE on this issue. I would suggest that next time apple let people get approved for the update before the OS comes out so all they have to do is send out the codes. I also thin that apple should at least have had a "we received your claim" sort of email that is sent out to you as soon as you submit it. That would have been nice.

Because people who didn't just make a big purchase don't have to?

Has anyone tried going into an Apple Store and asking if they'd install Mountain Lion on their computer? Do you think this is possible?

Codes sent today don't work, either.

I waited a couple of days, thinking things would slow down a bit. I entered my info this morning, and I did get my codes within an hour of requesting my free upgrade, but whenever I enter it in the App Store, it says it's not recognized as a valid code.
This is a total cluster. I just updated from a 5-year-old MacBook to a MacBook Pro, w/retina display, so I'm plenty stoked about my recent upgrade, and I can wait a couple of days to upgrade MacOS. On the other hand, this is a remarkably inept rollout for something that should be pretty simple.

Here's a little happy story:

I applied, was mystified I didn't even hear a blip from Apple, and turned to this forum to find out it's supposedly taking 72 hours to get the code.

Well, after approx. 60 hours I got my code, entered it, and OS X Mountain Lion started downloading.

Terrible service been going back and forth trying to get a code which works after my first code did nothing been waiting 5 days now, emailed them 5 times still nothing, talk about keep your current users happy/not :-(

I put my request in for a code the 27th of July and now it's the 3rd of August. I'm trying to be patient but it's wearing quickly. I will call Monday since it's now late Friday.

Would it be illegal if I torrent Mountain Lion first before I actually buy it? I don't want to make the same mistake I did with Lion. Apple basically stole my money on that one. I just want to make sure ML is worth it and not a friggen fail like Lion.

We bought an iMac Aug 1st at an apple store for the owner of the company. They still have lion on them and I went through the signup for ML a few hours later. It was no more than 1 minute (seriously!) after I hit the button on the website that the emails came with the redemption code, and it worked.

This was a calculated "oops we're sorry" on Apples part. Always the first to outsmart many of their users, they knew that they'd sell a second copy to those who couldn't wait.

You've got to hand it to Apple, they didn't get to the top by being nice :)

Fair is a word Apple does not recognize. LOL.
