i had applied for a code early and found it didn't work this morning. apple just sent me an updated pdf and password to unlock a reissued redemption code for mountain lion. i just tried redeeming it on the app store, and it worked! downloading now...

If this can be confirmed from multiple users then it's good news indeed. Hopefully, they'll start pushing new codes that work to everyone who's already registered. It seems like a simple matter to send out new codes without the customer having to call and request it to Apple (which I did) - it would be a poor use of phone rep resources also.

up-to-date-code

I requested my code early this morning and still havn't recieved an email with code. I called apple and they told me it could take up to 72 hours until it arrives!

Maybe the problem is they're issuing duplicate codes. Maybe someone (or 100 someones) got the same code and the first one is the winner. In that case, they can't just reactivate code since it'll still have the same problem.

I still thought the process was weird. An encrypted PDF with a "content code " and with a separate e-mail with a password, plus you've also got a reference number to go with it.

When it didn't work, I reread it about a dozen times...

I wonder how much additional $$'s Apple made by the folks who just said the hell with it and downloaded OS X for the $20 win.

I was half-tempted myself...until I realized that Apple has already received enough of my money for one year. Bastards! :p

I wonder who's azz will be handed to them for this screw up? Poor son-of-a-programming gun.

In case anyone of you went ahead and bought ML before you received new redeem come -- I'll buy the redeem code off you for half the price (via paypal gift).

I just don't feel like like paying the full price at the moment, since some of the main features (airplay mirroring, power nap) will not work on my 2010 MPB13 anyway.

PM me!

Exactly. I just spent $2200 on my MBP. $20 seems trivial but it's about principal now.

Apple is so hit or miss with releases these days. Code "already redeemed." A/C guy told me it could take up to 72 hours for a fix.

I'm not really in this boat as I don't have an eligible mac. However, if I was and wanted it this badly, I would just download it from bittorrent and install.

Then when the code arrives tomorrow or in a month, redeem it in the MAS to tie up the loose ends.

No feeling bad, it's not stealing if you're copying something which you are entitled to.

Well I'm no fan of Tim Cook anymore. Never got my redeem code and a support call made it clear I had to wait 72h, which means I wouldn't receive any ML before monday. So I went ahead and bought the update.

I can imagine things go wrong on launch day but it's never fun when you are the victim of their clumsiness.

Yup...I am willing to bet new codes will be delayed 72-96 hours, this way everyone will just give up and put down the 19.99.

Apple, the new bait and switch masters. Hilarious...how's that apple tasting now? :apple::p

Not Happy at all!! 72 hours for a redeem code! seriously I brought apple to get away from **** like this!.

Im getting the Redeem error aswell

I'm in the same boat. I have two MBAs, mine & the wife's, that I put in requests for.

And I just saw a tweet go by form MR: "Apple's OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Program Experiencing Early Hiccups macrumo.rs/NXS8qO " I guess that's an understatement!

I'm still curious if a restore from network will be smart enough to pull over ML or not. Gotta try this when I get home.

Still waiting for a correct redemption code... Finally, I've got a replied from Apple stating that the "representative will review your request and send you a personal response, most likely within 24 hours." You have got to be kidding me. I got up early for this!!!

I have no response to your comment except... Comic Sans?!? Really????

Bazillion, actually.

More like Brazillian!

And I've been waiting for for about an hour to get my download link via email.

I got a rock

Traffic is the same way, when one can advance the others follow and ut oh, traffic jam. With everyone wanting it asap there are bound to be crashes.
I'll bet in 2 days these problems will pass as do the crowds in the theaters after opening night.

Your analogy is flawed as the Up-to-date redemption code problem isn't one of increased data traffic. It's a problem of incorrect code creation or validation after creation, either way has nothing to due with high server usage and should have been tested prior to live launch. The problem won't disappear on it's own in 2-days, as new codes need to be generated and sent out. This is definitely an Apple programming problem.

Does anyone know if the activation code will only work with the computer it was requested for? I have an up-to-date eligible RMBP and I'm wondering if I can buy Mountain Lion for $19.99 in the app store right now, then give my free upgrade code to my girlfriend. We both use different app store accounts.

I sent in a claim form on Monday (during the brief window it was live) and never received a confirmation email. About an hour ago, a customer service rep told me that people that received an email on Monday would have a bad code. If you didn't receive an email, you should still be in the cue, although he said it could take 24-48 hours to receive an email with your code.

You can buy it and install it on 5 different machines. But i'll wait for the redeem code.

forget this

I'm going to go look for a torrent....
if i don't find one i guess I'm just guna pay... ps student... so it aint like its my money..

Applied for the code 12 hours ago. Still no email no nothing. First time using the Up To Date Program so I thought this could be normal. Well, it seems it isn't. Want to try ML out so badly :/

When in doubt use torrents. That's what I might do if I can't get my free upgrade. I bought a MacBook Pro with retina display in the beginning of July and I better get my free copy or else so help me apple I will torrent it because they screwed up bad.

Look on the bright side, at least the update is FREE.

Apple have consistently given me good customer service and at least you can get help and it's not a faceless organisation from a customers point of view.

There maybe a wait for the new codes, but at least Apple responds to and you are in the loop by them rather then wondering if anyone is ever going to answer like some support companies.

This update costs nothing for those lucky enough to have codes or be allowed to request them. Apple did not need to do this and the your Mac is still as good as it was yesterday. Nothing has changed apart from the "want it now" culture that we live in.

A big thank you to Apple and their support staff and please enjoy your Apple's new or old OS. You will get the update in the end.

:)
