Apple today released new 14.2.1 software designed for the HomePod and the HomePod mini, with the software coming a month after the release of the 14.2 HomePod software.

There's no word yet on what's included in the new 14.2.1 software, but we'll update this article should it offer anything notable. According to Apple's release notes for the update, it adds "general performance and stability improvements." The prior update, 14.2, added support for new Siri and Intercom functionality.

‌‌‌HomePod‌‌‌‌ software is installed automatically on the ‌‌‌‌HomePod‌‌‌‌, but the ‌‌‌‌HomePod‌‌‌‌ can also be manually updated by following the instructions in our ‌‌HomePod‌‌ update how to.

I would imagine this addresses (at the very least), the "Configuring..." stall when setting up a HomePod mini.

I’ve been having crazy lag with my HomePod mini and my iPhone 12 pro max. Like pausing or changing the volume would sometimes have over a 5 second lag.

I’ve already set up a return, but if the update solves this I would probably keep it. Anyone else with this issue?

Try the update. If it doesn’t work I suggest you restart your HomePod mini to factory defaults. Then “pair” again.

Are they ever planning on releasing the promised ability to change default streaming service or was that just lip service?

Hope this fixes my inability to swap the default music source. It's stuck on Pandora no matter if I switch it back to Apple Music (and shows Apple Music as selected).

Edit: Yup, fixed.

Yes, but only Pandora is supported and it's buggy - see my above complaint.

I know Apple likes to hold things back but I sure do wish they would do a better job with release notes. Even when they mention things it’s typically an oversimplification.

iPhone 7 showing "Downloading..." for HomePod Software Version 14.2.1. It's been "Downloading" for about 10 minutes so far. The download size is 25.8 MB so it shouldn't take a long time to download. No activity showing on the HomePod.

The recent update has not resolved an odd problem I'm having. Every time I ask Siri to replay a song it repeats the command twice.

My HomePods always have problems connecting to the internet when all my other devices connect fine. Also, they’re set as a stereo pair but they’re always uncooperative and only the left one plays music. So frustrating.

Hopefully this update fixes all those problems.

I just tapped "< Back" and it showed "Install". I tapped it and now it's displaying "Installing". I guess it's OK now. We'll see.

Mine sat on downloading for about 15 minutes, and now says up to date. 14.2. Hrm....

Edit: now it's updating.

Has anyone else noticed the grammar issues in Siri responses? Asking her to turn on the Dining room lights, and her response is Ok, the light are on..

I am hoping this fix clears that up..
The one that keeps tripping me up is asking her to turn on the Christmas lights and having her respond “okay, the Christmas lights is on.”
