$49 for an adapter?! are you kidding me?!
If anyone else wants to step up to the plate and produce a cheaper version (Belkin?) then they should go ahead and do so. Everything about Thunderbolt 1 and 2 was expensive.

Please, stop wining:

Use it as a dock, be versatile when you need to be.

* example, multiple solutions exist *

I would get a card of the opposite brand as your dGPU.

I have it but I only used the Startech TB2 dock with the Startech adapter.
Yes and according to https://thunderbolttechnology.net/tech/faq it sounds like everything should be compatible. Unusual but would be nice.
Is Thunderbolt 3 backwards compatible with Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2?
Yes, solutions and products built to Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 specifications will work with Thunderbolt 3 via an adapter.

One question is if you can power an mDP 1.2->HDMI 2.0 converter with this, because with the Startech I can't.

That's why I also have a USB-C->HDMI 2.0 converter.

I am happy people are finally seeing through this adapter ********... Also, people saying this is cheaper than alternatives are missing the whole point...
The problem is not the adapter, but that rMBPs suck concerning ports.

If TB3 (excluding USB) and TB2 use the same number of pins, I would indeed complain.

Hopefully this or another adapter will be released that will allow that LG screen to be utilized on older Macs.

If apple had respect for the customer base they would package these with the laptop.
And then people that never use Thunderbolt 1 or 2 would complain that they had to pay for something they didn't need and that would probably be the majority of users. Someone is always going to complain.

SO i have a question and i didn't quite understand in the keynote. I understand it has 4 TB3 ports, do i have to buy an adapter for lets say a USB stick or HDMI cable? If thats the case Ill have to carry about about 3-4 different cables / adaptors for the different connections OR are those ports able to accept all of those types of connectors from a USB, HDMI and so on? I say that right?

rMBP always sucked.

You will need some sort of adaptor for all the connections you mentioned. USB-C uses a different connection like this.
