well... it took me a while and I was bounced around from pillar to post... but I managed to speak to someone who checked my details and then asked me to hold... twice!

she came back and explained that there had been a glitch in the system when the ipod was added to the store and that because I ordered before the description changed I will be receiving the extra accessories...

I think the results could be very hit and miss though

good luck all!

(My order hasnt had any extras added yet though...)

Damn you - bloody lucky 😱 - Apple Australia won't move an inch, and unfortunately they're fully within their rights not to - argh, why couldn't they have messed up on the Aus site too... grrr

YES!

Just spoke to a lovely lady at the Apple UK Education store. When I queried the remote and carrying case issue straight away she said that if you ordered a new iPod before they changed the web page specs, then they'll be sending you everything that was listed for the model. So in the 40GB's case (no pun intended!) you'll get a remote, carrying case and 4 to 6 pin FireWire adaptor.

Nice one Apple - I called expecting to have to argue this one but am pleasantly surprised I didn't have to.

My order doesn't show the extra accessories either but the lady said they'd be sent anyway.

Feeling vindicated now for caving in and ordering a 40 gigger at past midnight last night! And at £257 all in it's got to be a great deal.

That lovely lady wasn't Mary, I really hate her she's the rudest and least helpful person I have ever spoken to at a call desk. If so I have no idea how you did it 🙄

i think i had mary first... ring back... youll get someone else...

i rang the apple store 0800 number, then went through to order queries... from there they then pass you onto "sales" who seem to be able to sort it...

QUESTION

Please tell me that the accessories are interchangeble from the 3G models. I already own a remote and a dock and don't want to have to repurchase this stuff separately when I get a 20GB unit soon.

I gave my 40GB unit to my Father in June for his 71st birthday. He is the coolest geriatric I know! Loves his iPod!

So now we have official acknowledgement from Apple that the iPod battery life sucked and that the price was overblown. Gee, thanks Apple! 🙄

Also, Apple had better sort out their currency converters: US $299.00 equals 250 €, not the 339 € it's been sold at. 90 € more. Why?

I'm about to call and see if they'll help me out with me getting screwed, swap the 20gb g3 for a 20gb g4, and let me order a new dock. This is going to be complicated.

I think I'll mention that ever since my dad has seen and used my powerbook, he's in love and has a meeting with apple to switch his entire firm.

I think they owe me.

Possible explanation for lack of high end 60 gb iPod. Maybe Apple is trying to expand the line of iPods somewhat (the minis were a huge success) to capitalize on their popularity. A pro iPod with bluetooth, higher quality screen (maybe color), 60 gb hard-drive, new battery and an aluminum enclosure. This way Apple brings back the color coding of multi colored for low end, white for mid level and aluminum for high end. Other features that have been a concern to pro users like video out could also be addressed.

This acutally makes so much sense to me, it's scary!

Colours = iPod mini (low-end consumer - etc. eMac)
White = iPod (consumer/prosumer - etc. iMac, iBook)
Aluminum = iPod Pro? (pros - etc. PowerMac, PowerBook)

I don't know about the features on it, but with all the talk about using iPods for DJ'ing/Music Production, etc. this could be REALLY cool! Of course, the price would be insane, but with the right features, I might be swayed. 😛

Plus, it might not count as an "iPod" in the traditional sense, so Joswiak's statement about no 60GB iPods may still hold true - the 60GB Pro iPod would be something totally new! (a "proPod"?)

International pricing issues non withstanding that is total BS!!

The neat thing about technology is as manufacturing processes improve costs decrease. They're just passing along the cost savings.

God dang what a bunch of whiners. It's not like Apple forces you to buy their stuff, feel free to buy some cheap ass piece of junk from someone else.

Will you stop saying that Apple owes you? You sound like a whiney little kid. Apple owes you what you paid for, no more, no less. They aren't in business to give stuff away.

A) I am a little kid.

B) They're about to do 100,000+ of business, maybe they'd be willing to swap my iPod. In this case, I really do think they do owe me.

Out of those that dislike Apple's carry case for the ipod, anyone care to suggest what they use instead?
I've owned two different iPods, and I've purchased excellent leather cases with sturdy locking belt clips from xtrememac.com and vajacases.com. The Vaja cases tend to be a bit more expensive, but they have lots of customizable color options.

Buddy, they don't owe you, not one thing. Welcome to the real world. You bought a 3g iPod, you got a 3g iPod. Sale completed.

Could you please explain why they OWE YOU? How much money have you put into Apple? How many years have you been using Apple? Not your father or his business, how much have you put into Apple. There are some very, very devoted Apple fans who aren't whining as much as you.

We install 100's, sometimes 1000's, of Macs here every year, and we don't get any freebies, just what we paid for. Why do you deserve different for buying a laptop and an iPod?

No no. I can return this. It's only been a few days. That's legit. It's just a matter of them being willing to help.

And plus, my father's the one paying for this. So it's business with him, through me.

And I just talked to Apple Sales, they said it's cool, they'd help me. And I ordered a dock, and I'm keeping the g3 remote.

And what are you talking about?

I'll get nothing for free here. I paid 369 for the g3, and I believe the new one was 299? Explain how that is free. They make money from this. I agreed to not go for a refund at all, instead of getting back the 369 just to turn around and give them 299, plus dock, plus remote from the old iPod.

All I'm asking is some loyalty to consumers, after consumer's loyalty to Apple. Which they've shown, which I'm thankful for.

1-0.

Next.

I was under the impression you wanted a new iPod without paying the restock fee.

My gripe is with you repeatedly saying 'Apple owes me'. When you grow up, you'll realize how silly this sounds. Apple may have been nice and taken the iPod back, but they DID NOT owe it to you. You got what you paid for, that was what you were owed. Anything else is just Apple being nice, because they are completely in the right to say 'forget you, we gave you what you paid for'.

Uh... no... you're wrong.

The 40 GB model (now in the medium price spot) still comes with dock, remote and carrying case. The 20 GB model (now the low-end iPod) does not.
No it doesn't. It only comes with the the dock. No Remote and no case.

Alllright. I hate to be whining. But Anyway. So my 3g iPod came in the mail on thursday. I've used it. Quite a bit. Can I return it and get a refund to get a new one? After a year of debating whether or not to make the switch to apple, and then finally doing it by buying a PowerBook and iPod, and I LOVE it and plan to use for the rest of my life, I think maybe they owe me. So should I call tomorrow, plead my case?

Well....I think you have a 10 day return policy, so you could do that if you wanted. Also, you can call apple and see if they'll give you some money back. They gave me $50.00 for each 3g 10Gb ipod i purchased (two) a week before they released the 15gb. Very cool of them.

That's funny, yesterday I was whimsically speculating about whether Apple would some day introduce an ePod for the education/consumer market and a Power Pod for power users like DJs. 😀

The fourth-generation iPod lets you adjust the reading speed. If, for example, you’re learning a new language, you can have iPod read more slowly.

I want speed control of everything.
True. Imagine taking a class and using your ipod to record the class using the Griffin iTalk ... then later, IF YOU HAD CONTROL OF ALL FILES, you could use the slower speed to transcribe the notes. Too cool. Very cool.

"International pricing issues" do not affect other computer products in the same way, especially by other brands. Also, please define "international pricing issues". Extra taxes do not necessarily apply to computer products; perhaps the iPod is classified differently. But in any case, whatever external issues there are, they wouldn't alone justify a 90 Euro increase.

The neat thing about technology is as manufacturing processes improve costs decrease.

Yes, and it's a great thing. It's perfectly fine for an iBook G4 to be more convenient than an early iBook G3, for instance.

What I see as a bit of a joke in the iPod new pricing is that they're not doing an upgrade of that kind. We're not talking of that kind of extra jump. More reasonable prices and more decent batteries should have been the basics in the earlier ipods too.

God dang what a bunch of whiners. It's not like Apple forces you to buy their stuff, feel free to buy some cheap ass piece of junk from someone else.

Yeah, like that's such an intelligent comment. No one's talking of never buying any Apple products ever again; no one said the iPod is crap; not everything produced by other brands is a "piece of junk", and you can very well criticise something you're buying, or interested in buying, in fact, it would seem rather absurd to criticise when you're not even interested. Doh.

The alternative with any product or brand is not "whine" or "worship". But I'd much rather go with the former, thank you. 😛

Okay, now I'm just dreaming, but for a guerilla filmmaker like myself, how cool would it be to have a 60GB iPod Pro that could capture on-location sound? I don't know if the Apple Lossless Codec is up to snuff, but imaging plugging mics into your iPod pro, capturing sound during your shoot in Apple Lossless format, then plugging it into your mac and importing your digital audio into Final Cut Pro!

Just a dream, but if they could do this..... whoa.
