I just AirPlayed a German film .mp4 with burned English subs to ATV3 with the new update. It worked well!

I don't have an .mp4 or .mov with multi-audio and multi-sub if that is what you are asking about, so I can't test support for that.

Yes thanks i use itunes for aptv 3 and yes i have 2 differen audios with the mp4 and 2 subtitles and audio is 5.1 i just want to be sure before do that because rigth now is working just fine also that true the black mark for subtitles is not any more in the screen

Nice! What was your process/settings for this. I did mine years ago, and would love to test your settings. I own a bunch of great foreign films that I would love to have better language support over. Please let me know. Thanks.

Yeah, I like to watch college football via the xbox espn3 app. Wish the apple tv would get it.

I've been doing the next best thing by watching ESPN3.com college football on my Apple TV via AirPlay Mirroring from my iMac. It works great, but requires that you're running Mountain Lion on your Mac of course.

I really don't understand as you can stream any audio source (movie, music, app) from an iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch to an Airpot Express through Airplay.

I think this means you can use ATV like a jukebox, always on with AC power etc.+ iTunes Match. I use my old ATV1 like this but, will switch it off now, as the newer ATV plays to the new AX and I will not need to sync off iTunes each time I add music.

However for this to truly work, the Remote App needs two things: Access to the radio feature on ATV and also the AirPlay button. Currently you cannot run ATV blind (no screen) on the app and access these two features.

I also hope that we get more channel access like BBC iPlayer or the ABC app, as these would add value.

FWIW, you can enable AirPlay manually in iOS by double-clicking the Home Button, swiping to the left screen, and selecting the desired AirPlay speakers.
You are correct about needing a screen to navigate all the various menus though. If you setup your "favorite" radio stations, you can reduce the number of clicks and maybe even remember how many clicks down a given station is in your favorites list, to select it without seeing it on screen.

It would be nice if the Apple TV could mirror it's menu screens to a pre-approved device's remote app, so that one could navigate menus without needing to turn the TV on.

I use my ATV practically every day to watch video podcasts.
I keep hoping they will fix the bug where the podcasts keep showing as new after watching. I'm tired of having to manually mark them all as watched.
Did this update fix that?

Well this problem seems to be fixed....sort of. Seems like even if I watch a podcast half way it shows as watched now. Not the little half-blue dot.
Also, in Favorites the podcasts are not always showing the number of new episodes. Sometimes I have to click on them and go back and it will show how many new ones there. Sometimes it doesn't at all.

Mac Mini's have HDMI. How simple were you looking for?

(Plex also has many channels built in, YouTube, NetFlix, Hulu... etc.)
1) Does the Mac mini boot instantly?
2) Does the Mac mini boot to a Front Row-like interface?
3) Is the Mac mini "grandma/wife proof"?
4) Does Plex have a Japanese UI? (related to 3)
5) Does the Mac mini support AirPlay and Mirroring from your iPhone/iPad/MacBook?
6) Is the Mac mini under $100?

The answer to these is no, which is why I'm very thankful for the Apple TV.

I'm not saying that the Mac mini isn't a good product (I'm actually considering buying one to use as a headless media server), only that the Apple TV and the Mac mini meet different needs.

No, it's not.

Maybe low-bitrate web video is fine, but that's not the point. Try streaming anything at 720p or 1080p at a decent bitrate and mirroring chokes on Wi-Fi.

I just came from two old MCE extenders, which had absolutely no issues streaming 1080p content over the same Wi-Fi network.

I stream only 1080p videos to my ATV3 and it is flawless - videos are encoded with Handbrake at high bitrate (RF=19). You may want to try using the 'Web Optimized' setting in Handbrake, because that allows the video to start playing a lot sooner with less buffering required.

Nice update, too :)

Before update my apple tv 3 I like to know about this new update i use my aptv3 to play mp4 videos with different audios and subtitles can I update it or now thanks

I usually encode my m4v-movies with two different audio files (surround and/or digital) and two or three different subtitles - I had no troubles after updating, so I am guessing you should be fine as well :)

Yeah, I don't think he was getting it. I'm considering saving up for a mac mini instead of an apple tv, because it would do everything I want, and I wouldn't need to use handbrake either. I'm sure iPlayer will come to the apple tv, I was just hoping it would be soon...

that's what I thought I'd do but haven't seen update to mini in a long time so decided to get ATV instead, hopefully JB will be available soon.

Yay...... Finally...... consistancy across all menus.

I hated on ATV 2 when in Movies & TV Shows the menu were comming from the top, where Podcasts, there were no menu at the top.

Now its done:)

This is very strange. It's not possible to send audio from movies to airport express but, in stead, it's possible to send audio from music videos and the syncing is perfect between audio and video.

What? The BBC iPlayer app is on practically every other tv-connectable device. As a public service broadcaster they have an obligation not to tie themselves down to one device (hence the iPlayer was available on os x and linux long before ITV on demand, and 4OD). the BBC are not a big media company and rights has nothing to do with it.

and we pay license for it ;)

It's not useless here in the UK. Admittedly, I have a gen 2 ATV so mine is jailbroken, but Netflix has come to the UK, and there are other ways to watch videos, movies, television programmes. I just wish I could delete all those stupid MLB.tv and other icons that I will never ever run.

yep, jailbroken isn't useless, unfortunately still no JB for ATV 3 and I agree with you on that useless crap, who in the UK watches MLB??? :D

Just to point out that you can hide the icons you don't want by going into the Parental Controls sections of the settings on the Apple TV - you simply click on each item and it toggles between Show/Hide.

Works well for me.

Did they fix the bugs in Youtube?

Did they fix the bugs in Youtube and in "movie rentals"?

In Denmark I can't play Youtube videos from the history menu. Going back to recent searches results in an error too. Doing a new search for the exact same video works.

Do a Google-search the bug has been there for 1-2 years. Mostly in Scandinavia for some reason.

There's another bug too. Even though it says that a movie has Danish subtitles you can't be sure there are actually there. I've had Apple refund my rentals because of this.

Geee....I wish Apple would pay more attention to customers outside the US.

The bugs mentioned above actually makes the Apple-TV almost useless :-/

I updated to Apple TV 5.1 from Bolivia, where I live and got a message that says that my iTunes account is only for US purchases. When I load NetFlix none of the menus work. I never had this problem before. Anyone got the same problem? Solutions?

That bug has been present everywhere, but only after 24 hours. I'm waiting to see if it has been fixed here because it's a huge pain for us - we play the same kids videos over and over and we have to search for them every time, even though they are in the history list.

I am not crazy about the new layout of the photostream. It looks like windows 8/metro. Much easier to find pictures with the older layout.

However, I love that favorites for podcasts is now instant.

Previously, it would take 2 minutes to load up. I always dreaded leaving the page to look at something else.

Great, I hope that Netflix and renting movies won't take ages to stream. I'm on a 7mbps connection and Netflix stops every 30 seconds or so but not on any other device or computer in the house, and it takes about 2 hours for a movie to be ready to view from iTunes, but not from my computers or iDevices when rented from those in the same house.

Frustrated!

There are known problems with the Apple TV and certain DNS services, like Google's public DNS. I've also seen issues with Time Warner, but once you get it sorted, it starts working great. Try switching between your ISP, Google's public DNS, and OpenDNS.

Are ***** serious?!!??

Is this guy serious ?

Okay downgrade maps - no new notifications

No real usage from the screen

I can go on and on

These "no real usage of the screen" complaints are absurd. I've seen them a few other places and I don't get it. The screen is bigger! You can see more of any content on it. That's the entire point of a bigger screen. If you owned an 11" MacBook Air and then upgraded to a 15" Retina, would you say, "They didn't do anything with the bigger screen!"? Of course not, because that would be absurd. Do people want them to put a news ticker up there? Or ridiculous always on buttons like on Android that you accidentally hit?

There are some minor things to complain about, as with any new OS release, but on the whole there are a ton of nice little changes. It's a refinement release like Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion, so iOS 7 next year should have more drastic changes.

Check your network settings, particularly DNS, this shouldn't happen, it's not a standard experience. Even when I had a crap two meg line (until a few months ago) I had perfect streaming from Netflix.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2616899?start=0&tstart=0

As discussed in the above thread, this issue has actually been occurring for years now and has affected a lot of people. The gist of it is that the people affected are having Netflix buffering issues on their Apple TV, but not on any other Netflix supporting device (e.g. PS3 or Roku) in their exact same network. Internet speed doesn't seem to be relevant, as many of the affected people have internet speed that should be fine. Some have reported that changing the Apple TV's DNS to a public DNS like google's has fixed their problem, but it hasn't corrected the problem for everybody.
