now everytime i try to boot up it automatically boots into my bootcamp partition. i dont know what to do right now. i cant boot into osx.

Hold down Option on switch on, select the OS X partition, then go into disk utility and select the startup drive to be the OS X partition.

It got rid of my wake up sound, which is awesome I can finally open my computer silently. It still makes the sound on startup, but later than it used too, it happens right before the screen turns on now.

LOL update fail.
i lovehow everyone likes to bash on MS updates too..

..waits for fanboys

My late-2007 MacBook's superdrive makes a loud noise when the computer turns on/wakes from sleep. It is annoying, but I've just learned to deal with it. However, I do wish this update was for my model of Mac in hopes it would correct the problem. :(

Like most on here...silent wake up but not startup...in other words...a virtually pointless update.

not sure why... start up / restart still there

I'm not sure why so many disliked the "noise" from the superdrive... I actually didn't mind it, it was sort of a "reassuring sound" that my mbp was starting up, but it could be just me...

The person who mentioned that it was too loud (and compared it to a boeing plane) to open in a classroom... Seriously?!?! :p

I have 3 different macbooks at my disposal at any given time, yes the "noise" is in all of them, but I wouldn't compare it to an airplane... maybe the problem is with something else :)

I went from a Early 05 PowerBook to a Feb 08 MBP to an early 09 uMBP, and the sound from the drive has just gotten quieter with each revision. And I’ve never noticed anyone else’s MacBook making noise. So I agree, I don’t know what you’re all complaining about.

I almost don’t want to apply the update… I might actually miss that sound.

I was pissed because I didn't get an update for this and that noise always annoyed me. Then after a little testing I found out my machine (Macbook Pro5,3) doesn't even make that noise. I can't figure out how I never noticed that before.

Ahhh, no more loud, weird sound coming from my (unibody) MacBook every time I wake it from sleep. I've always hated that sound!

Really Apple? Really?

The noise from the Superdrive was something so horrible it required you to work on it?

Really?

This was a priority?

I bet Steve just got jack of the tiny amount of noise from his laptop he stole the whole software division to fix it.

Are you serious? How do you know this was even a priority? They probably spent a few hours (if that) fixing the noise from the SuperDrive.

It was an annoying noise that I always wished they fixed. And these updates did a lot more than just make the SuperDrive silent.

Woo

This is kinda cool. I feel like all of my Apple laptops back to my iBook G4 did this... didnt know that it was an issue though!

In fact, its not all about noise. In fact, each time you would wake up your Mac some mecanical part would move in the drive (probably the head), causing wear and noise. Maybe this was the cause of the high rate of failure of the superdrives...

hopefully Apple will get rid of the noise on startup eventually. now that it's silent upon waking, it bothers me not to have it silent on startup as well.

The Super Drive sound doesn't bother me much, (MacBook Pro 3,1) not that they plan on fixing it for my model. but most macs I've had made a sounde from the drive at start up. I hope the Airport updates help folks having airport issues though, I know several people that have had problems once they upgraded to 10.6

SuperDrive Quite on Wake, Not on Start/Restart

I updated my MacBook 5,1 and my wife's MacBook 5,2 with the EFI update and the SuperDrive update. Like most of the posts I've seen here - the SuperDrive sound is gone on wake, but still there on cold startup and warm startup. I was hoping it would be gone for both. Also, the SuperDrive no longer makes the sound when I start Toast.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm not sure if its "getting rid of the noise" per se as its just just sending power to it everytime you open something that may require the Disc Drive.

For example when you open Disk Utility it does it to send power to it, similar to External Drives. if theyre in sleep mode and you launch disk utility it wakes them up (and they power on) etc.

so maybe their wording doesnt quite match the result?
id imagine it makes sense for it to get power drawn to it on start up and make that noise.
