This update sounds great, but i have a mid-July 2007 model. Why no go ?

Is there any way to fix the noise on my aging MacBook, short of buying a new one

Read up. I already answered that question. It's a case of different firmware required because the newer macbooks used a different interface.

Why did you even offer me the update? Gahh. I was excited to get rid of that noise on sleep wake.

My hard drive "Partition Map Scheme : Master Boot Record"

Gurrr.

I've noticed that this update has another benefit: whenever you open up Disk Utility, the disk drive no longer makes a sound if there is nothing in it (presumably, Disk Utility was trying to see if there was anything in the drive).

Stupid update. Since I did it, I've notice my MBP's fan goes on all the time and makes quite a bit of noise. Anyone had the same problem? I'm so pissed! Rotten Apple!

thanks.

I have the same problem with my MacBook. And do have some additional problems after applying this update yesterday:

- If the "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" setting is on, the brightness keeps adjusting (up and down) even though the ambient light does not change.
- From time to time the MacBook spontaneously sleeps even when I'm actively using it (this one is really annoying).

dual layer burning

the update didn't fix the problem i have burning dual layer disks in 10.6 on my 08 unibody macbok. if i boot into 10.5 i can easily burn a disk. has anyone else had this problem?

this update was great, now my mb barely makes any noise when coming back from sleep :D

If there's any wonder of why it's worth paying extra for Apple hardware, this kind of attention to detail is probably quite a good example.

As it happens, I found it quite weird - I'd become accustomed to the 'eeee urrrrrrrurur' sound as an indicator that it'd successfully woken up. It's only a split second before it lights up and becomes evident anyway, but it was that instant recognition.

But it's definitely a change for the better. As it was, you simply couldn't wake it up discretely in a quiet environment.

Will the new EFI firmware 1.8 for the MBP uni have the same problem as the 1.7 had? You know the constant stalls n freezes for a few seconds everytime?

Installed this update as soon as it came out, but recently I noticed that the loud grinding noise on startup has disappeared as well. It continued to "grind" for several days after the update, and then got quieter and finally disappeared altogether. Hmmm...

I installed this update with no issue. However, my gf tried updating on her macbook and she said it has taken about an hour so far. I'm sure it froze. Should she just push the on/off button and reset it?
