some people

don't understand excellence. Tony Bennett sound great. It will be a cold day in hell when Kayne, Britney, or any contemporary artist is 80+ and sounds that good. He still relevant because the music is good.

respect musicians.

I Know that people say this every time, but this time it's true! Worst Keynote EVER!

-No iPhone Update (Push?!?!)
-No Online iWork (I laughed so hard when he announced iWork.com and it's best feature is to share docs online)
-Integrated Battery in the 17''
-No new Mac Mini (?!?!?!?!? WTF?!!)
-No Steve (although Schiller wasn't that bad)
-Horrible band playing at the end of the keynote
-Top Songs now 1,29 (come on people, we all know that only old and unpopular songs are priced at ,69)

You'd think Apple would be smart enough to just design the bottom lid to have the kind of screws that don't fall out (like the iMac's RAM latch screw). I mean, I don't have a problem with the whole integrated battery thing since, assuming it's like the MBA's, it's not soldiered on and the base, using the MBA as the reference again, is easily removed anyway.

The removable battery "issue" is more of a mental thing right now. We're still used to Li-Ion batteries that need to be swapped out or replaced all the time.

Have faith in the new technology -- 8 hours should be plenty for a single charge.

Overall, this is an outstanding laptop.

That M6400 can only offer those specs because it's significantly bigger and heavier. It's always a trade-off.

Yes i understand that and I do understand where they want to move the company. As a photographer it's a perfect machine, since you not doing much to the processor.

I am just a bit confused that why they are forcing ppl into a corner with only one product to choose from. Love the design and everything. Give me a B version for the road that's thicker and more powerful. There are quad processors available for mobile computers from Intel. Why cannot I have them from apple?

One year it's GREEN and BATTERY, the other year THIN. May be next year it's about POWER and OPTIONS.

;)

The anti glare option is a different screen with a different metal border. thus the $50.

Its the same screen, just no glass. If you remove the glass, you will find the sliver boarder and the matte screen...

They're probably single use nylon coated screws? Pretty common in laptops.

Still can't help thinking that a non soldered, internal battery is a pointless sacrifice with very little gain - their 40% volume increase sounds like a load of specifically worded rubbish to me.

Wow, a local news station just talked about apple's new DRM free songs deal. they showed a clip from an ipod event in 2005 (the 5th gen ipod, 1st gen nano) and a 2005 verson of apple.com (with the "gell" tabs on top) and said, the new prices 69, 99 and 1.29 prices will very depending on who records the song..

leave it to the local news :p

the more processors you support the more bloated you are that is one of the reason windows is windows

Very good point - it does take a way take flexibility, doesn't it? In general I prefer to have that control and the option to choose, as opposed to having my hands tied, so I can see where many users wouldn't be happy with this change. I think it is probably one of the reasons some users have decided to buy an Air as well.

Yes, like I complained about in the other thread. :)

It's not that I am not happy with the current offerings, just that we don't have any other choice.

If you are a PC user and you are sworn to Dell for whatever reason you have five different 17" models (or slight variations) to choose from.

From the ultra heavy M1730 with SLI to the Covet with quad core and maxed out specs (like 16GB of RAM) to the Studio with moderate specs and pricing, to the Inspiron (general use/run of the mill) to some of the business models that come standard with 3 year warranty.

Then you have the option to go down to a dual 2GHz chip but killer GFX or vice versa or two HDDs or two SSDs or one or the other in all capacities available and so forth.

I wouldn't mind Apple's closed system so much if they at least gave us somewhat of a choice... OR gave us what we actually wanted. On my death bed (which I pray is at least 100 years from now) my last words will be:

"No one that did real work on their 17" MBP ever wanted it to be lighter...!"

p.s. Skip the processor mumbo jumbo. Give me quad core. Render times aren't great in FCP. Not complaining about them at all, but once you use a Mac Pro to do 4 streams of HD (15 seconds = 7 minute render) you want a little more horse power in your portable (15 seconds = 17-20 minute render). Especially if you are a freelancer without a Mac Pro that does most of their cutting on a 17" MBP.

Not to mention wanting to have FCP6, Color, Motion, and Safari open all at once.

Why didn't apple gave us a possibilty to output s-video oder video (FBAS)? This will screw a lot of professional VJs, as almost no VGA or similar video mixers are around.... At least they could provide a Displayport to video adapter. And to use DP->VGA->FBAS will be a pain to use....and don't think of the quality...

Windows is windows, like you said, it can be installed on macs. (infact it runs a lot better on a mac then on a PC) PCs use mostly AMD and Intel, so your comment is pointless

This is the closest I've come now to finally ridding my portable. Unfortunate that there's no blu-ray, but hell - I'll be using this for work at home, and I have a blu-ray player attached to a screen size that I'd rather watch it on anyway (50 inch panny) lol.

I've got to have a look at this matte offering first, in store, and then I'll have finally made my mind up.

Or else as Skunk also mentions, other alternatives may have to be seeked soon.

if you want dell than go get a dell and quit complaining there is no reason for you to stay with apple and you may be able to get on the news as the first apple user to switch to a windows computer:p

also if you whine so much about the hardware being over priced than why do you now say that a mac can run windows better than a pc yet you want apple to use windows type of hardware and ideas in their macs

Actully, I'm a windows user who switched to mac. But I still like windows. I cant stand dell. Also, no ones complaining, you were the one who was complaining about processors.

Also, I highly dobut apple users go out and buy every new mac thats announced. Not with todays problems.

Well, i'm just comparing to other computers out there. 2799 is way to much. I'm actually not interested in buying this. I'm happy with my 13" MB.

Can you work on your grammer a bit?

Soooo... $50 to remove the glass. Nice.

thats apple for you. Mostly for the complaints. Don;t complain, then apple wont charge you ;)

Wow, so add something everybody doesn't want. Then, charge them to take it off.

CLASSIC... these people really must not care about their consumers at all.

You could remove the "glass" your self, but I dont recommend it.

NOTE: The glass is not the screen, its just a cover peace...

So why would they just throw glass on top of a matte screen? what do we as the consumers gain from this?

this macworld was an EPIC fail. I don't think i'm going to be spending money on a mac unless they update their hardware fast.

Does anyone *really* believe in 8 hours on the battery?

Really? They claimed 5 hours on my macbook pro and even when the thing was brand new it was impossible to reach the 5 hour mark. I bet with normal usage- surfing and what not you wont see more than four hours.

External Battery Accessories

Gotta blame the weakened currency. Same thing happened to Australia.

Now great news for Thailand.. it's CHEAPER! Woooo!

And now the pro users who always carry two batteries will not complain (as the batter life is pretty much almost 2 batteries anyway) but I really think people who carry more than two batteries will still complain.

Anyway, still a little disappointed with the graphic card. Just only 9600M GT?

I think there will just be an external battery you can take with you if you really need it. The same for the iPhone where you can extend the battery without removing it.
