Oh come on! :D Heee.... I was thinking the 1080i/p resolution might be a hint of what's to come on the 12th :)

Yeah, it definitely would be a great machine to watch HD movies on from the new iTMS Movie Store. And after that, combined with Leopard's as-yet-unannounced super-secret built-in Media Center technology, the next iMac revision will see 30" displays with built-in TV tuners, HDMI, etc. :D

It's showtime!!!

I hope not, the 24" panel is not as good as the 23"
I bet you see a lot of complaints regarding photo editing on the 24" iMac. The screen is way too bright, and you cannot dim it enough for true color reproduction. This is an issue that is well known with the 2407 from dell. I am assuming it is the same panel.

I am sure someone has a 24" S-IPS panel.LGs doesnt say if it is or not.

It would be nice to see Apple make it 24" though, but if the current panels dont permit them to do it at the same quality, I am fine with it staying the same.

Is it just me, or a 24" iMac would've been nice to show on stage with whatever that "Showtime" thing might be? That would, at least, have made some sense to at least start by showing that.

Which means the september 12th presentation must be really packed with new stuff if they couldn't even announce the 24" iMac at that event. They've also bumped the CPUs on the Mac mini today, so that makes two updates on the same day too.

It's also weird to see new releases on a wednesday...

If it's an event centered around Apple's multimedia business, it probably wouldn't have made much sense. I suspect the rumoured Airport Express Video will be announced (or rather it's more likely than not), and some tweaks to the iPod line are also in the offing, but I'm not expecting either to appear that exciting at first.

I would caution anyone about being disappointed by next Tuesday's event. There will be minimal hardware announced, and the full consequences of that hardware existing will not be readily apparent to most people. When you see it, think "No wireless. Less space than a Nomad. Lame" - CmdrTaco's comments upon the original iPod launch, the significance of which most people missed too.

Why does it have to go inbetween the iMac and something? How about giving customers a CHOICE at the same pricepoint as the iMac. Lose the integrated LCD for those who have one, bump up the specs a bit and sell at the same price points... See my post above for what I would like to see....
Exactly why it wouldnt happen, cause Apple doesn't want to give people choice at one price point. Its either desktop or portable.... pick ur price... and low beho thats the mac for you. Period. No disputing the great Oracles at Cupertino.

you people are never happy...
I hope you arent referring to anything I said.

I think these iMacs are great. Apple has done a great job IMO with his iMac lineup. Makes me want one even though I bought a Mac Pro. (Which is arriving today :))

I am taking about the ACDs anyhow.

I am basing my "insight" on http://aryarya.net/wassyoi/lcdmemo.html
A very good source for lcd panel specs. There is no 24" IPS panel in use, only PVAs

yes all that I wanted in my imac. VRAM memory bumped to 256 would have been great but I appreciate more the price drop. I was going to buy a 20" (glad I haven´t yet) but know who knows.

Here in Honduras, the only authorized mac reseller in my city had the last 20" for US$2052 (in Honduras, computers are sales tax free), I wonder if they will apply the full $300 rebate. If they use the same margins the 24" should be around US$2250. Still not bad since I was going to pay US$2000 for it. The only problem with them is that they dont give you the option to customize your mac.

So if I go with either the 20" or the 24" I win both ways! Thanks Apple.

Now how long will I have to wait to they have them here? BTW They sold all of their 17 and 20 imacs nationwide and they said that they were waiting for a shipment of new models.:)

I will be a happy camper this christmas!

Nice job by Apple on the 24". Very tempting system.

The 7600GT isn't a bad card at all for gaming. The only thing to rememeber is that it has to push 1900x1200 in those games unless you drop the resolution. I think the 7600GT has a 128 bit memory bus. All in all it should do fine for the games that are availible right now.

Yeah, and that's a great thing for the consumer... Apple will tell you what you need and you'll buy it and like it dammit...

Congratulations iMac fans - and well done Apple.

This really drives home the pain associated with the "professional" TOP of the LINE MBP that now sports a processor pack that is just a bit better than the top of the line Mac mini for heavens sake!!!! What is wrong with that picture:rolleyes:

Oh well - tick tock tick toc:confused:

What happened to the MacBook Pros with Merom? Not that I'm complaining about the iMac, but don't you all think that the professionals are the ones most in need of the Core 2 Duo right now? Most average Joe iMac consumers aren't even going to notice that the Core 2 Duo is in their machine, and even if they do, it's probably not going to make that much of a difference running Mail and Safari.

I hope Apple has enough Merom chips to launch MBP Merom soon...wasn't there some sort of rationing going on from Intel because of the high demand?

Argh.

It's a workstation, not a desktop. Yes there is a difference.

Rubbish. There is a Jupiter sized gap in Apples product "matrix". They have no desktop for frig sake!
Where else would you sit your iMac?

For those wondering why Apple came out with the new iMacs today.A Wednesday. It's probably because Steve Jobs didn't want the media to think the keynote was going to be about the 23" iMac..( now 24" )

Get the iMac's out of the way now so the media can speculate on other things.

You really are full of crap, aren't you?

"Most powerful desktop". Ha!

I will leave your personally offensive remarks aside, suggesting instead that you get a transvestite, oops, Dell PC, dude. I am sure you can find a better desktop in their highly confusing webshop. As for Gisele Buendchen, she stays on our side, thanks a lot...

So to all of you who said Conroe would be in iMacs -

*points and laughs*

:p
Well, don't put back your camera just yet. If I recall it correct, you never set any time limit when you made your bold statement about Conroe in iMac. My guess is that Conroe eventually will arrive in iMacs...and when it does... we do (sort of) look forward to your promised homemovie. :D

Neither would you in your MBP.
