It might mean nothing but my order has been updated from "Ships by 14th Nov" to "Ships 14th Nov". I guess tomorrow will show whether this really does mean that the end is near.

Yay Hooray!

My 17in shipped today, 11/13!!!! I'm actually kinda surprised. I thought the 14th ship date would have come and gone with no end in sight.

So Apple was 6 days behind. I'm kinda miffed about that, but oh well. The thing that always got me was that Apple told me over the phone that they got more orders than what they expected... That DOES imply that they expected SOME orders right? You'd think they would at least ship out the quantity that they DID expect. Also, you'd think that if you ordered it the day it came out (like me) you'd be one of those people within the expected quantity.

Either way, I hope to have it by the end of this week.

Hope...

Same boat here - ordered 15"/2.33/Matte/160 GB on OCT 25 through the campus store (with an original Nov 3 shipping date), and now have a shipping date of NOV 29. Great job on customer service, Apple! Seeing via this forum that we are getting treated differently than other customers really gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling...

Actually, there may be hope for us yet. After calling Apple twice and raising hell (politely mind you), I decided to approach my problem a little differently...

I called my campus store and told the manager about my experience with Apple's phone support and how they had advised me to cancel my original order and purchase directly through Apple's edu store. The campus manager was livid (and for good reason, Apple was trying to rip off his sale). He had me give him the name of the Apple manager I spoke to and my reference number and told me he would "make some phone calls."

I don't know what he did, but my laptop shipped today with estimated delivery on the 16th :D . So my advice to you is to call your campus store and notify them of the delays, perhaps they can "motivate" Apple to ship your lappy a little bit quicker.

Good point on getting a later rev by the way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a pristine, glitch free laptop.

My ship date slipped was Ships by: Nov 13. It has slipped to Ships by: Nov 14 to Nov 16 with a delivery date of Nov 16 to Nov 24. Sigh.

I ordered a 17" 100GB 7200rpm within minutes of it release and hopefully will arrive before Nov 16th, it has really been a long wait for the MBP C2D. Does anybody already receive it in Europe...?

5-7 days in US store

Apple's US store now says that it's shipping in 5-7 days, instead of 7-10!

That should be good news i hope!

Shipped!

I was about to call Apple to ask about the current status of my order given that it was expected to ship on the 14th and this morning there had been no update. However, before I was going to call I decided to check my order status online to ensure that I had its current details and I now note that it has shipped today! No details yet about where the thing is or who has got it. Now I just need to get an expected delivery date so I know which date to arrange with my office to have as a "working from home"/"watching inane daytime TV" day.

Just for reference, in case anyone is interested, I order a stock UK specification 17" MacBook Pro for delivery in Belgium.

to get bigger or not to .......

hello from Malaysia (by way of Toronto) got my MBP 1.83 a few months back, not a single issue, till now. My contract here has been lengthened by a full year (was 3 months but I seem to have excelled?) problem is, now I have to carry an extra 120 Gig portable hard drive cause 80 isn't going to be near enough. I'm wondering if I should just suck it up and deal with the extra weight and room or go to a Core 2 Duo with a custom hard drive installed? I'm up and down rivers, up and down 'hills' in very inhospitable places with everything in 'Pelican's' (with well armed guards too)..... I have very little access to this site for obvious reasons.... I'd like some input from people knowledgable, maybe just private messages.... will be Singapore for R&R next week, wondering if they have a good pipeline.. Uses: i'm writing about 10K words a day and uploading hundreds of digital images each day.... any suggestions whether I should just trade this one in (and take whatever hit) or wait until the next version which according to some here may be the ultimate and with the new OS... Money won't be a problem now...

PS, working in partnership with an NGO, I decided to go with what I know, MAC, most bought Microcrap machines and most of them are dead, real dead...

congrats javi251

is there any uneven brightness?

(all of the 17" cd mbp's i saw all had really bad uneven brightness, i was hoping they would fix it in the c2d's.)

17inch MBP C2D

THIS COMPUTER IS PIMPED

Just got done taking care of the first part of battery calibration. I've been installing my apps from dvd while I run down the battery. Now, my new baby must sleep for the next 5 hours or so...

My initial reactions:

- Virtually SILENT. Granted I was just installing applications from DVDs and haven't really run any processor intensive apps yet, but the machine was operating below a whisper. The DVD drive made some noise when copying gigabytes of files off of the disc and under the desktop, but that was to be expected.

- Its warmth was tolerable and nothing out of the ordinary or excessive.

- The screen looked quite crisp and clear.

- Since my last laptop experience was a 1st Gen Titanium G4 Powerbook, I was quite impressed with the latching mechanism this time around. It's not magnetic, but it has 2 connection points. The screen and body sit together smoothly when closed.

- The green iSight indicator is quite nice.

- The keyboard is quite responsive and smooth. I'm anxious to see how the backlit keyboard looks. I'll have to wait until tonight.

- I started up Photoshop under Rosetta. No noticeable lags so far. Start up seemed to run as smooth as it did on my 2.55 Dual GHz G5 PPC tower. I'll have to explore this further.

- I'm REALLY happy I went for larger screen real-estate.

- It's FAST!!!

Some surprises:

- This is my first experience with Tiger. I figured out how to turn off Dashboard, but it still sucks that the app icon appears active in the dock.

- This came with a 160 GB hard drive. I was kinda shocked to see that before I loaded anything on the machine it only had 140 GB available. I'm going to have to delete some Apple installed apps. What should I get rid of?

Languages and printer drivers you're not using first of all. This take a huge chunk. Garageband and iWeb are also big culprits.

Did it come? i ordered mine on 24th and i should get it either 18th or 20th

Not to mention that 160 GB is not correct. Formatted out, it's about 150 GB. ;)

You're right. From my experience with my other 2 Macs and my fiances iBook, one could expect to lose about 10 GB due to OS, etc. That's why I was surprised to see that it was almost 20 GB shy of the drive limit.

In today's day and age I couldn't imagine getting an 80GB MacBook and only having 60Gb to play with.

-Ok, before we go down a 'missing bits' conversation, let me interject this:

Hard drive manufacturers rate drive size by true mega and giga. e.g. 1000 bytes=1 kilobyte, 1000 kilobytes=1 megabyte, 1000 megabytes=1 gigabyte. Whereas computer manufacturers measure a kilobit as 1024 bits, a megabyte as 1024 kilobytes, a gigbyte as 1024 megabytes and so on.

So some are 'lost' in the translation, and it's true for everybody.

Its what happens when you try to mix base-10 math with base-8 without both sides really talking it through to agreement. So both are correct, depending on who you ask.

Great news.

This is officially from a business sales manager at CompUSA. They have over 400 17' MBP C2D units at this minute waiting for distribution to their stores and for shipping to those who ordered them via CompUSA

So...

If you ordered one from the Apple Store, it will not be long till it ships.

:)
