Why Pay $1999 Missing So Much You Get For $2499?

the 2.16 ($1999) models are in the boston store. they're expecting the 2.33's any day now (this is what i'm waiting for). I haven't been to check them out yet, but i'm getting excited!
You have to be broke to buy that $1999 model. For only $500 more you get twice as much RAM, twice as much video ram and a 170MHz faster processor x 2 i.e. 340MHz faster or one third GHz more total processing power.

The original 1998 $1300 iMac was less powerful than that difference.

Seems like that is easily worth the extra $500. No?

Not being sarcastic.

you are so right, there is nothing more furstrating than having someone repeat information that is readly available to a consumer on the internet. It makes me mad as a consumer and even more furstrated as an investor who can't stand duplication of processes, although the $81+ is serving as quite a good narcotic to calm my nerves. haha

When I inquired about the current in stock sale of the "old" mbp's, the guy loaded up the the new macbook pro c2d main page and pointed at the screen saying, "sale? it looks here that the prices have remained the same..."

Apple is a $40 stock trading solely on hype. Enjoy it while it lasts. :)

I've made a lot of green daytrading Apple, and will probably buy puts after the holidays.

how does the student adc purchase effect the warranty. Do you have the same warranty as if you were buying through the apple store? I know that you can't return the machine, and that's about all i know. If you buy apple care will it still cover for 3 years?

I'm pleased.
fw800 and dl superdrive in the 15" version is really all i wanted.

...see y'all in the soon-to-be "goddammit, my c2d mbp still moos, overheats, and whines" forums :p

I dont think that is accurate, I am pretty sure you can return your machine within the normal periods that everyone else can

and yes applecare is 3 years and only cost a 100 dollars I believe.

I think i'm gonna go with the base model for $1799 with education discount. I don't think i'll need 2 gigs of ram or the 256 mb graphics card. I think i'll wait a week or more to see waht everyone has to say about the new mbps though. Cheers y'all! :D

you mean 349.00 look here...http://developer.apple.com/membership/usa.html
click on the link in the first paragraph and select a macbook pro. i'd be better off getting it a student discount separate from the adc mbp purchase.

Applecare was in the low $200s when I checked. $230ish maybe.

I totally disagree with that too. The extra RAM is like $170ish from Apple if I'm remembering right, so take that off the price difference. Besides that the video RAM is basically worthless (low end GPU with more video RAM still = low end GPU), and a 7% speed bump isn't worth it either.

IMO the cheapest Macbook Pro is the best value, since the extras aren't worth much of anything on the higher end one.

ah you are correct, I must have been looking at the student applecare pricing, but I'll just go to the apple store and apply my student discount on my macbook then :)

apple care is like 115.00 through apple with a edu discount, sorry was thinking of imac yest 239$ for MBP's my bad

When do you guys think the macbooks will be updated?

Thinksecret says probably not until next year. Some other site said the whole line will be updated before the "Holiday Shopping Season"-so probably before the last week of November.

Intel's stopping production of Core 1 by January (I think, might be mis-remembering). So by January at the worst I'd say, but possibly within the next four weeks.

Sooooo...lets say at best 1 week, at worst 3 months.

I'm wondering if the Macbook will get any other improvements besides the Core 2?

The way it is now, even with Core 2, the Macbook isn't AS good of a deal as it was, because you still need around $333 to give it 2GB, plus at least $80 for a larger hard drive. So basically $400 to match the Pro if they Macbook doesn't get any other bumps.

Of course I'd LOVE for it to get a real GPU-even a Geforce 7300 or something, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

These bumps to RAM and the hard drive on the Pro are the most impressive I've ever seen Apple do. Who'd have thought getting 2GB (or even 3) would be most cost effective through Apple?

what's everyone's estimated arrival date? mine originally said november 6th, but i received an invoice in my email today saying it was shipped today, to be arriving on oct. 30! what's that all about? i'm still a little wary since rev. a had so many issues. maybe i'm just being paranoid. can anyone shed some light on what could be going on right now, besides the obvious (that it was shipped earlier)?

why doth apple frown upon me

i ordered at 6:02am pdt on the 24th.
stock 15 2.33
upgraded shipping

and somehow i am the only person remaining who's order hasn't shipped.
could ed discount be slowing me down?

woe is me

that's weird, because i used the educational discount too, although i ordered the stock base 15" model with standard shipping.

New Thread Please?

I know the C2D MBP was just released, but could someone start a new thread on performance benchmarks when they come out - especially if the benchmarks include the G5 in comparison with the C2D machines. I've tried wading through this and the other C2D MBP thread for meaningful information, but that is an exercise in futility.

Perhaps Multimedia, as someone who actually knows what he is talking about, could take the lead on this.

Thanks,

Leo

My MBP shipped!

Just got an email from Apple saying my 15" MBP just shipped (standard shipping). Should be here by Oct. 30. It's my first Mac. Can't wait.

i will be very sad if paying extra for shipping actually slowed down my order
