I intentionally deleted the Safari app because I thought SIP would prevent the operation from executing like on Catalina. It doesn’t. Do NOT delete the Safari app even if you’re tempted.
I’m on public beta, so disregard if you’re a developer.
my experience with the PB was trying - it only would allow me to install over Catalina. I had to install Catalina on a separate container (I wanted to keep Catalina separately in case the Beta was too buggy or didn’t support some of my 3rd party apps), install the profile, then download and install Big Sur on it.
Is anyone having issues playing songs in Apple Music in Big Sur Public Beta 1 or any of the developer betas? It's really weird... Thanks!
Installing the PB was a mistake. I hope that switching back to the Developer version will fix the probs that I have had with slow, SLOW startup time.
PB1 and beta 4 are the same builds.
Are you dual booting? Shouldn't impact Catalina or earlier if you have that set to primary disk boot for boot up times
The divider was there since beta 3, but the gap looks new to beta 5 (at least based on the screenshot). I am attaching a screenshot from beta 4 for comparison. Is that gap between the transparent sidebar and the white window a new change?
I hope it's a bug. It wasn't there before. It looks off. It seems to be visible in most apps except photos.View attachment 945724
The Beta is on a secondary container, not my primary container, but I (and everyone should) appreciate your advise. I may not have made my experience clear.Unfortunately, it seems like you might not be an ideal candidate for a public beta. Even the public beta is still a beta and shouldn't be installed on a machine that you use for work or your primary machine because of issues like this.
I think Apple maybe need to tweak some language around the public beta still being _beta_ software. It's going to be buggy, debug mode is still going to be enabled (slowing things down), and do thinks that a non-pristine machine will not like.
I think about it like this. If you'd be at all upset if you lost or broke the computer you're considering installing a beta on, don't install the beta on it.
I’ve been running BS on an external SSD since developer beta 1. That’s how I run all macOS betas. Can this version be installed on external SSD? Last version said couldn’t and that‘s how i have my iMac Catalina boot on..:-(
Support for iMac 2020 yet?
They've definitely added more dividing lines so it's not all white and added more contrast. However, I think that gap is a bug.Is that gap between the transparent sidebar and the white window a new change?

Isn't the 'r' redundant nowadays? Don't believe there is a non-retina macbook available7.15GB for me on 2018 rMBP
Based on my experience, no. Can't get past the Apple logo when rebooting to install Big Sur, either as an upgrade to Catalina or a clean install. The release notes indicate the 2020 iMac is not yet supported.
From the changelog:hm it shows as upgrade for iMac 2020. interesting. So should I stop updatenow?
From the changelog:
Important: macOS Big Sur 11 beta 5 is not currently supported for iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020). If you encounter an installation issue on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020), you need to reinstall macOS Catalina. Hold down the power button to force restart, and then press Command-R immediately after turning on your Mac. Then, follow instructions to reinstall macOS Catalina from Recovery .
