Booted back to Catalina after using Big Sur for a couple of weeks and its so much nicer. The Big Sur UI is so dull, inconsistent, glitchy and full of poor design decisions... Such terrible alignment and highlighting in the toolbars, especially in Finder. Difficult to tell where one element ends and another begins too
If Apple wants to make macOS big sur for touch also..you will have to get used to...or stay on mojave/catalina forever
I guess we will see in 1-2 months

The menubar is still ****ed up

I HATE that the highlight is now damn near imperceivable.

What is this horse ****? STOP ****ING AROUND WITH THE MENUBAR, APPLE! Don't fix what isn't broken!

See this? This is broken.

Five ****ing betas and they still won't fix the alignment issue with a checkmark and the menubar. It must be a feature and not a bug, then, right Apple?
Report it then.

I don't know if anyone here has a website that uses animate.css or similar, but Safari really doesn't know how to render CSS animation properly in the new macOS - it looks awful and jumpy.

I reported it but they just don't get it.

I am trying to install the Mac OS Big Sur beta 5 On my 2020 27’ iMac and seems like it doesn’t work ! It has been stuck on Apple logo screen for a long time and not even showing the status bar ! Don’t know what to do next

Restart, hold down option, select your regular drive (i.e. Macintosh HD). Don't try to install Big Sur again until the next beta.

This is from the release notes. Its always a good idea to read them before try to install it. 🙂

Important: macOS Big Sur 11 beta 5 is not currently supported for iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020). If you encounter an installation issue on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020), you need to reinstall macOS Catalina. Hold down the power button to force restart, and then press Command-R immediately after turning on your Mac. Then, follow instructions to reinstall macOS Catalina from Recovery .

Anyone been having issues with auto unlock using Apple Watch with Big Sur? I have my AW Series 4, on the latest beta but the unlock feature stopped working on the previous betas and is still not working on yesterdays and today's betas.

Anyone else having issues?

Mine stopped working after updating my phone and watch with this week's betas.

Is Parallels brocken? When I start Parallels all OK, when I then try and start a Windows Machine the screen goes blank and my MacBookPro 15" 2019 has been switched off? I try and restart the machine, get the "There has been an error, press any key to restart message" - the Mac then restarts? Anybody else have something similar?

Yeah, this is the problem I mentioned above. It relates to the Parallels Hypervisor. If you change to Apple's Hypervisor in settings, it should work ok until they get a fix out.

Repeated kernal panic during boot for me after update. Booting into Safe Mode allowed me to track down the culprit — seems to be Parallels

I didn't quite have the same problem. But after starting a mojave vm in parallels I got a kernel panic.

At one stage parallels still worked in beta 1-4 (sometimes with a terminal command trick to force it to start). Then Parallels 16 came out which made the terminal trick obsolete.

But then beta 5 came out which seems to have broken Parallels 16 (at least for my mojave vm).

VMWare Fusion once didn't work at all in big sur. But then they came out with the VMWare Fusion Technology Preview. That works in Beta 5.

So for now I have switched to the VMWare Fusion Technology Preview (which is free).

I think Parallels will fix it eventually so my plan is to go back to that.

Otherwise I'll have to buy VMWare Fusion - which will annoy me since I just paid for Parallels 16 - only to see it break in beta 5 a few days later!

okay, I could it install now with the terminal..

There is no chime anymore when I plug in the charger. Is it just for me or for all?

sorry to be *that* guy but it is a beta so I would not get too annoyed ATM - I am sure that Parallels will fix it quite quickly - changing to the Apple Hypervisor worked for my VMs so maybe give that a try?

There is another side to beta 5 though. Beta 4 broke Reflector. I switched temporarily to LetsView (which is free and worked in beta 4). I was hoping that Reflector would come out with an update. They didn't. To my surprise however it works again in beta 5!

So yes, maybe parallels will come out with an update. And maybe they won't. And maybe beta 6 will fix parallels with or without any update from parallels.

Do you have a Mac mini?

Really hoping this finally resolves the hard crashes I've been experiencing on the beta. I haven't seen much mention of it, but multiple times a day on Big Sur, the system completely locks up and all I can do is hard reset. MBP 13" 2015.

Same here MacBook Air 2014, it happen usually while using safari mostly

Actually I installed the public beta and could not get it to work. Even worse, when I booted back to Catalina it stopped working there. I wound up turning off the setting for the Apple Watch in System Preferences/Security and Privacy and rebooted. When I turned it back on it now works in Catalina again. I have not booted back to Big Sur yet.
