Did you Repair permissions? Perhaps you should go into utilities and delete the one you have, maybe it's a bad download.

It takes 1 seconds because that's the download phase, and you already downloaded the updater.

Whole process took a few minutes on my 2007 MBP.

That's what I thought. I did redownload it, and repaired permissions, still not working....

My problems with the firmware update...

Macbook - lost all control of volume after the initial restart. Restarted and it seems to be working okay now.

Imac - Had my only second kernel panic (in 5 months) after starting Parallels. Rebooted computer and it seems to be working fine now.

I followed instructions - but I did have a firewire External HD, printer, and ipod plugged into the Imac now that I think about it.

I will update if anything happens again.

I have a 2.2 C2D MBP (from October 2007) and loaded the firmware update appropriately. This did NOT fix the black screen when waking (I also wait minutes, it doesn't help) and it also did NOT fix the full-brightness issue when rebooting (I usually have it down 2 notches and it always resets on each reboot).

That doesn't exactly says who gets it. Example:

My buddy has a 2.4GHz MBP (Merom). His EFI is: MBP31.0070.B05.

It would stand to reason that this EFI: MBP31.0070.B07 (EFI 1.5) would be what he needs.

However, upon downloading it, it tells him he does not need it.

Not sure why?

I think your buddy already has the latest EFI 1.5 update. This update must have come bundled with his system when he bought it. The MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.4 which came on the September 27, 2007 has the version number of MBP21.00A5.B07 or MBP22.00A5.B07. There are no other EFI updates for the MBP except for the current 1.5. Looking at the version number you quoted, it seems the only difference is the B05 instead of B07 of the last digits. So I think his EFI is at least very similar to the current one, which renders the current update unnecessary.

It seems that your buddy's EFI shares the same build as the current 1.5 update, the difference is the seeds (B05 and B07). I think the reason why system updates doesn't show any updates, AND why the 1.5 update doesn't work for your buddy is because the system detects he already has the same build.

I cannot think of any way how he can get hold of the current update. Can he get any help from the Support team or maybe AppleCare?

Any thoughts?

Mindflux, allow me to point you to this thread

Take note of the guy who opened the updates with Pacifist and checked for which system that deserve the updates.

I think I'm screwed ....

I downloaded the iMac firmware update, and did as instructed, got the tone and everything.

However, halfway through the firmware update (according to the status bar) ... it STOPPED! It's been like this for more than two hours. I think my computer crashed in the middle of it or something.

Now what do I do? I hope my computer isn't screwed up!!

I'm very sad right now.

I tried. Guess WHAT. I got the Kiss of Death. The SOS tone. Three short beeps and two long beeps and three short beeps again.

So much for my 2100 investment.

Since when are computers investments? They never increase in value, rarities aside.

So I guess at this point the stock market would not be an investment either? :p

Or for that matter, CD's or Money Markets.... Boy, has the interest gone down on those..

Still same problem

Yes! I had that problem too - i could not use an external monitor together with the laptop monitor after the last graphics update.

Now i can use it again without any freeze ... Finally! Perfekt, no hangs anymore (at least this day intensively working with the laptop... was not possible before this update)

NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel timeout! still with me.

I can reproduce this crash in 10-15 minutes, its easy, just play a little bit with panels ind photoshop or illustrator (CS3) and tah-dah it’s there.

Ok, i have to admit, that after the efi update my MBP (2.2 santa rosa) now runs smoother, but this really sucks. Looks like i have the last instance, reinstal system and do not apply leopard graphic update like everybody else.

The point is, even in a CD, MM, Savings.. with the interest plummeting your net worth keeps going UP. Show me one modern computer you can buy today that you could sell in a year and get precisely OR more than you paid. There isn't one. Hence it's not an investment.

Stocks are like gambling, where as buying a computer is not. Not even in the same league of comparison.

MBP31.0070.B07 or MBP31.0070.B05

Doesn't come up for me on my SR MacBook Pro, currently using Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B05

Interresting that you have that version too. Mine changed to the B05 version after I took my laptop into the Apple Store for an unrelated issue, and I cannot get the new version to load. There is a Firmware Restoration CD (v1.6) that is available but if you aren't having problems, I wont't do anything. Apple says ""You can only use this to restore the firmware after an interrupted or unsuccessful update." I am pretty sure we are not in that case. It is available at the following link:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd16.html

Oh, the update did show up in my software update, but the update said it wasn't necessary to load. I don't recall if I downloaded it before I sent it to the Apple Store or not but that may have been the case. Please share if you learn anything new.

Boot Rom B05

Exactly the same for me. I tried downloading the update directly from Apple's site and it said that it was not needed. Until I saw someone else who had this I thought it was because I just had my logic board replaced about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

See my last post, but I also associated the odd B05 version to work I had done by Apple. I think they added the B05 when it was in the shop.

I'm glad this firmware fixed the issue of when booting up in windows with boot camp, it did not recognize that it was connected to power outlet. :)

Is it only coming back from sleep or a general failure of the backlight? Maybe being a Windows user biased me, but a good OS reinstallation might help? or a restoration of factory firmware and re-updating?

Not sure if I am tracking with this converstaion, but our MBP (3,1) had an issue where the keyboard light would act irratically and on two occasions required a battery removal/replacement to allow the MBP to startup. Apple troubleshot the computer and determined that the problem didn't occur when booted from an external drive and recommended a reinstallation of the OS. Since reinstallation, the system has worked normally with no issues.

Buggy MBP

Here's mine - without the update. For some reason it has not yet shown up in software update... and I do have a SantaRosa MBP...

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
...
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B05
...

I'm really hoping that this update will fix the not waking properly from sleep issue that I (and tonnes of others) have been having...

Our MBP (3,1) also had some issues and Apple Store recommended a reinstallation of the OS. Not sure why, but it fixed everything. Apple Store actually started the process, and they did a 10.4.11 install with 10.5 upgrade and then to 10.5.2 using software update. I personally would have gone staight to the new 10.5 installation and software update, but what they did worked.

Hopefully it fixes the "display never wakes from sleep even though the computer itself does" problem I'm having with my MBP. I've been stuck tethered to my ACD since the last update (either graphics update or firmware, not 100% sure which) broke it.

I had a similar problem found that the brightness of the screen was dimmed right down. Used the keyboard shortcut to increase the brightness to back what it should be.

did your MBP have any issues with external monitors? Such as having it not display it's max resolution when you reboot, and not even showing that resolution as a choice in the display preferences?

If reinstalling fixed that, i may have to take that advice....

i-stat is a widget you can download that shows the running functions on your MB. Mine show's 1.83 available,s/b 3.83 available as I installed 4GB of Ram.
Showing 1.83 told me my MB was only seeing 2GB of the 4GB installed. I opened up the MB and sure enough one set of 2GB wasn't pushed in all the way. I did that and it then saw all 4GB on re-boot, hence much faster MB. That coupled with the recent update, we be bookin now:cool:

ok, thanks.
i thought you had a way to see if blocks of memory where stuck in some inefficient loop and fix it.
i have iStat too, it's nice. you can see the memory status also from system monitor.
