You didn't say if you held the power button down until the light on the front of your laptop blinked, when you turned it on...

Seems to not liked some USB gadget I had plugged in. Unplugged the lot of them (mouse, hard drive, camera, ipod, printer + hub) and re did the update and it worked this time round.

update taking ages

ok my imac 24" is still installing "gray screen apple logo spinnt thing)

its been like this for 30mins??

any ideas?

For me, it fixed a problem I was having while using external speakers. Whenever I was using them and didn't have any sound playing, I would get an occasional "popping" noise that was fairly annoying. It no longer seems to be a problem now. Can't comment on whether or not Safari is snappier or not. I don't see a huge change since the last update.

I use an Aluminiun Apple keyboard on a Windows computer on school. I've had the repeated letter a few times. How do I apply the update without OS X?

Unfortunately, you can't. The update fix the OS (system), not the keyboard itself (device).

[edit] Sorry, my bad... I didn't realized that wireless keyboards had chips, thus firmware. And since I don't own one...;) What a wonderful time we"re living in! ;)[/edit]

I might be mistaken, but I think the KB firmware update actually does update the keyboard, not MacOS. However, the firmware updater is a MacOS application, so it requires MacOS to run it.

I can likewise confirm that EFI Firmware Update fixed this problem on my Santa Rosa MB. Now Option boot shows both my Mac partition and my Windows FAT32 partition. Here's a thread discussing this problem: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=4534929

This EFI Firmware Update was really the bomb for me... my MB now seems generally zippier, boots faster, sounds louder through its speakers, and even the screen looks better (though some of these may be placebo effects). Thanks, Apple!

I can officially confirm that this firmware update fixes the problem of not seeing a FAT32 Windows partition by holding Option key at startup time (previously would only show Mac drive but not Boot Camp installation). Thank you Apple, this bug really annoyed the hell out of me!

Just come up on my mac mini with apple aluminum keyboard; 601kb.
i was hoping it would fix the problem where the caps lock key has to be pressed fairly hard to get it to work.

If only. ~Sulks~

I haven't noticed any change at all.

Hopefully it fixes the "display never wakes from sleep even though the computer itself does" problem I'm having with my MBP. I've been stuck tethered to my ACD since the last update (either graphics update or firmware, not 100% sure which) broke it.

I don't know if anyone has actually had the patience HOWEVER.

The problem with the display not turning on happens to me ALL THE TIME, but it turns on.

When you open the laptop from sleep, you hear the computer wake, but the display stays black. JUST WAIT. it can take about 60 seconds... (which when you're staring at the screen, is a long time...) But it will turn on
You have to just give it a minute.
I agree this is still a problem, however the display will eventually turn on. Mine does, at least. Try it...

There are several other threads all about this problem, but I just wanted to say that that does not work for me. I've left it waiting for a long time and it never came up.

It updates both the keyboard and the OS. Watch the LED light on the keyboard during the update, it is clearly transferring data over to the keyboard.

Just a thought for those without a Mac to run the update from: try calling a local Apple store (if there is one near you), and ask if they can install the update for you at the genius bar. Otherwise check on craigslist for a Mac geek near you.

I would really really prefer if Apple could add a description of what exactly is fixed and what is improved. This way sucks...They expect me to install an firmware! update without knowing why. Why should I ?

Anyway - installed. Don't see a difference. MBP works fine as it did before.

MPB not waking from sleep

um sounds like you should have that fixed before your warranty expires. check your brightness settings- you may have set them too low. Or your backlight is not working. either way- get it checked out.
I am having this same issue occasionally. There are several threads about this over at the Apple discussions forums. It is believed that the last graphics update has caused this, as many people are experiencing their MBP displays not waking after sleeping or being connected to an external monitor. Apple is aware of the problem and working on it.

I was hoping this latest firmware was going to be the fix, but I do not have an update in my Software Update either. I am running a 2.4 ghz MBP, Santa Rosa chip. We MBP users should be getting some update soon, it probably isn't ready yet.

If you can't hear the hard drive writing (scratching ect.) then just force it off by holding the power button. Mine did this with Leopard 10.5.2.

Hmm, I think it fixed the animation choppiness on my Leopard, I mean not all of it, still the application folder in grid is choppy, however, every other animation looks way faster than it used to be. Or am I hallucinating? (=

thanks for responding

That guy who got the update even though his hd was formatted table seems to say that it is something else that is causing the non update. Did you guys that did not get the update have your macbooks serviced recently or do a system restore from an earlier time machine backup.

just funny....

How we are all update-aholics. Maybe we just do not need the update. Something in the machine just works the way its suppose to (hoping thats the case anyway)

iMac EFI update bricked my 4 year-old iPod. Now at least I can justify a new iPod Touch.

That's strange. Since the update, my animation is choppy for the first time in Leopard. Scrolling in Safari, magnifying dock items, typing in any window is displayed o-n-e--l-e-t-t-e-r-a-t-a-t-i-m-e regardless of how quickly I type.

It has stopped the keyboard from losing connection 10 times in an evening though!

Still no sign of an update for my Santa Rosa 2.2 MBP, which has an untouched drive since i bought it at the end of January. To answer someone else's question from earlier in the thread, I do not ahve any EFI updaters or anything of the sort in my utilities folder. Even if i try to manually download the update from apple's website, it tells me i'm up to date.

Every problem this computer has had since 10.5.2 appears to be fixed (from other's accounts) with this update, yet I can't share in that! i may write apple support tonight asking what's up.

From another thread:-

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237?locale=en_GB

This helps to check who gets the update, who doesn't.

That doesn't exactly says who gets it. Example:

My buddy has a 2.4GHz MBP (Merom). His EFI is: MBP31.0070.B05.

It would stand to reason that this EFI: MBP31.0070.B07 (EFI 1.5) would be what he needs.

However, upon downloading it, it tells him he does not need it.

Not sure why?
