Guys, does this update fix MBP Santa rosa freezes caused by NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception?

Yes! I had that problem too - i could not use an external monitor together with the laptop monitor after the last graphics update.

Now i can use it again without any freeze ... Finally! Perfekt, no hangs anymore (at least this day intensively working with the laptop... was not possible before this update)

I guess recent MacBooks already have it, it says it does not need the update.

Updated pre-SR MBP 2.33 GHz success

I updated my pre-SR MacBook Pro with the new EFI firmware. The update worked flawlessly, no issues before or after the update thus far. I'm very curious as to what, exactly, this fixed - after reading 8 pages worth of posts I got some ideas, but none of the problems mentioned that this update fixed affected me.

I installed it per the instructions, and had no issues. It did take a while to go from the blue screen to the logon screen the first time, but that was it. Didn't see anything new either. Told me that my firmware was upgraded to the latest and greatest for my iMac. Same with my wireless alu kb.

Pretty simple really...and I'm a newbie.

I've installed EFI updates before and it really isn't that hard. HOWEVER, I'm having a problem with this update.

I shut down using the EFI Updater program, leave it alone for a 15-30 seconds and press and hold down the power button. The first time I did this, I held it down for about a minute to a minute and 30 seconds. No sound, but flashing ambient light on my MacBook Pro. I let go of the power button, turned on for a second (literally) and then restarted, the updater came up again and said I didn't install correctly.

I've tried about 6 times, still will not install correctly. It goes through the process of updating the EFI firmware, but it acts like it completes it in one second (literally), whereas my former updates took about 5 - 10 seconds. Anybody got any suggestions?

Did you Repair permissions? Perhaps you should go into utilities and delete the one you have, maybe it's a bad download.

It takes 1 seconds because that's the download phase, and you already downloaded the updater.

Whole process took a few minutes on my 2007 MBP.

This firmware update addresses an issue with the aluminum Apple Keyboard and the aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard where a key may repeat unexpectedly while typing.

And to think all this time I thought it was operator error.

Nope. That would give significantly lower benchmark results, and my 2.4 24" iMac gives very similar results post EFI update as before.

Obviously, Apple couldn't statically underclock the CPUs - there would be class action lawsuits popping up from everywhere if they did that.

However, Apple could have made SpeedStep more aggressive about slowing the CPU down under light loads or high temperatures. This could make the system run cooler, and reduce instability caused by high temperatures. (The Intel chips will be stable at their rated frequency (or even much higher) if the temperatures are kept under control.)

Your benchmark could still show full performance, as long as the system isn't at a high temperature....

Hopefully it fixes the "display never wakes from sleep even though the computer itself does" problem I'm having with my MBP. I've been stuck tethered to my ACD since the last update (either graphics update or firmware, not 100% sure which) broke it.

I have the same or similar problem. Sometimes when I close the lid & it goes to sleep and I reopen it a bit later, the screen turns on for a fraction of a second and turns off. The rest of the computer still works, just the monitor. So I have to hold down the power key until it turns off the computer, and start it up. Even then, it might take a few restarts to do. Maybe my MBP overheats? If so, I personally don't mind having the fans running noisily if I can use my computer.

I was having occasional instances where the keyboard would quit working. It would ALSO stop charging my iPhone which was hooked into the wired alum. keyboard's USB slot.

In the past, I would disconnect and then reconnect the keyboard and that would fix the problem.

I'm hoping this update took care of that.

BTW, I had BOTH fixes show on my system. The update worked like a charm, although that tone was loud and annoying. :p

No update for my macbook and I have this issue. It's hugely annoying.

I ran the updater when I got home last night. No new software update presents for me from :apple: this time. :( I've got one of the newer MBPs now, so I guess that's consistent with what others are finding here.

I've still got my other, 2 year old MBP, which I'm planning to sell sometime soon. I try the updater with that one tonight and see what happens. :)

Yesterday morning, at 50% full battery, the indicator says it would take 4+ hours to charge. I updated to the new firmware last night. This morning at 30% full, the indicator says it would take 1.5 hours to charge.

I think (hope) the firmware update fixed my charging problem.

Even though my sig says I dont have issues with my MBA, it started having the lengthy battery charging. At 80% it would tack on an additional two minutes, bringing the overall necessary charge time to 6.5 hours.

So far, im at 65% and the time say 1 hr remaining. THAT is very promising. But i'll update this post when it hits that 80% mark.

what does this mean? and, if one has it, how do you fix it?
thanks

i-stat is a widget you can download that shows the running functions on your MB. Mine show's 1.83 available,s/b 3.83 available as I installed 4GB of Ram.
Showing 1.83 told me my MB was only seeing 2GB of the 4GB installed. I opened up the MB and sure enough one set of 2GB wasn't pushed in all the way. I did that and it then saw all 4GB on re-boot, hence much faster MB. That coupled with the recent update, we be bookin now:cool:

Do you have the iStat widget installed? I was having the same problem with the display not waking up. Since I removed the iStat widget I have not had any problems.

Appears to fix Logic Pro CPU spikes from last Airport update

This firmware update appears to have fixed the large CPU spikes in Apple Logic Pro that began after the last recent Airport software update. Previously, when running Apple Logic Pro even with a small # of tracks with the Airport enabled there was digital noise and one of the CPU peaking very frequently. In order to record or play back with out these issues the only solution was to turn off the Airport. Since I installed the firmware update I have used Logic Pro extensively yesterday recording and playing back projects that previously had this issue and did not have the CPU spiking or digital artifacts.
Thanks Apple! No complaints at all here.

(using Apple 17" MacBook Pro 2.33 with 3 GB RAM).

Bad news for me.

I did the update and while restarting mine laptop failed with something i could not understand, so i restarted it now i hear is only beeps and nothing on the screen. Is there anyway to get it back i am going today to apple store and see if they could do something. Is it like i damaged mine logic board. Is it reparable I am getting too much nervous.

I hope this fixes the couple issues that i am having with my 2ghz AL iMac. One is when I awake it from sleep mode, the logon screen comes up for about three seconds and then dissapears. The mac is running, but all i get is the beachball. Then, about a minute later, it comes back up and I can login. Also, when I use Front Row for a while then exit the program, my dock is gone. I have to restart the iMac to get it back. Please Apple, fix these stupid problems!!!

Got a 2.2 SR macbook. Update is there in software update, and downloads etc.
Rebooting and nothing seems to happen - system comes up with the startup sound, reboots again a second later and goes back to normal operation. Boot Rom version doesn't change:

Boot ROM Version: MB31.008D.B00

Also ran the EFI updater thing from /Applications/Utilities and no joy. Worth worrying about?

You didn't say if you held the power button down until the light on the front of your laptop blinked, when you turned it on...

See my post #136. I'm kind of curious to see if it works for others.
