Mine seems to show up less than a second after the face lights up. This is the most exciting thing about this update.

Yes but for other watch faces like astronomy it is immediate. Given that I tend to look at my watch for less than a second to get the time I think this needs to be immediate to be useful IMHO. I like the face otherwise.

Ok - I played with it some more and it is certainly better and probably now a usable face.

Bricked Watch

Software Update bricked my watch. Went to the Apple Store to get it fixed...their response youre SOL for a week because we got to mail this watch in to get it fixed. You figure Apple would at least have a process to fix issues in the store aside from pressing 2 buttons together for 10 seconds.

Seriously?! So after the update your watch just went dead?

Damn... good thing I haven't done the update yet. I wonder if this more widespread or just a one-off thing.

I have updated the software for the watch and it seems to drain my battery faster and the readings for Activity and Heart Rate seem to point back to 9 hours ago.

Hell mine is at 100% and I still can't update. Really lame.

People keep griping about this.

A requirement that a battery-powered device be plugged-in during a major update is commonplace in computerdom. It's not something Apple invented just to annoy Watch owners.

Maybe we've all gotten spoiled by over-the-air updates to iOS devices.

Her dissatisfaction comes from the calories. The Polar will say 500 calories burned for example, and the Watch 250. She's competing against people in some fitness app, so less is bad! Haha! I don't think the Polar is inaccurate. Judging by her workout, I think the numbers seems reasonable.

I don't know how the Apple Watch could be defective when paired with a bluetooth chest strap. The same strap on Polar gives her double the amount of calories. I just think Apple is using different algorithms. And even if we do exchange it, God knows when they'll send her another one.

She better use the Polar, otherwise she'll get fat from not burning all those extra calories ;)

who knows...all I know is that ill be lucky if I get my watch back before the holiday weekend

After the update it seems mostly the same to me with the exception that Glances are considerably quicker to load up. Some Glances that pre update would take 5 seconds or more to load (if they ever did) are now taking a second or two. The apps, at least the ones I have installed, are about the same with no noticeable improvement. The app that I tend to use the most on the watch is CityMapper (which is great) which was already pretty good before the update.

My counter opinion is just the opposite assuming that the equipment is something better than Sears quality. Unlike the watch, the equipment knows the resistance and motion profile that is being worked against AND has the user's height and weight to consider as well (again, assuming it is commercial grade). Even with a user telemetry strap, the machine natively has more information to use in its estimates than a jack of all trades fitness monitor. Besides, anyone involved in a fitness competition would have to agree on the measurement device. Unless all users have watches, the only consistent device is the exercise equipment. IMHO, of course. I still like my watch for what it is an like the ease of relative performance that it captures.

Not sure why you think so lowly of the watch's accuracy. The watch bases it's info on the same metrics. You input your height and weight into the watch at setup. Not to mention, the watch data was developed based on collaborative readings from this commercial grade equipment you speak of.

You only have to start the upgrade when it is on the charger, which is good for people like me who like to start upgrades just before heading out the door.

Confirm all things that have been noted here: all around snappier. Emoji list scrolling is still choppy though.

Messages quirky just now

I don't know if it's related to 1.0.1, but I had a couple messages just get stuck sending for over 10 minutes from the watch. They finally sent and totally confused my wife since they were way late and made no sense of out context. The message threads on my watch, iPhone and iMac were all different from one another, too.

I've had the watch 2 weeks now and never observed anything quirky like that under version 1.0.

Watch OS 1.0.1 seems to have fixed the Bluetooth audio playback problem when using the Activity app.

More specifically:

1. Go to gym.
2. Put on your Bluetooth headphones.
3. Use your Apple Watch and start music playback while working out.
4. Start the Activity app to monitor your workout.
5. One or two minutes later, the music stops.
6. Throw the headphones back into the locker and take your frustrations out on the weights.

I keep getting this error on several different wifi networks. I've restarted the phone, watch, reset the network settings, etc. I'm running out of ideas.

I'm trying to get the update to download and it's taking forever. I have a question for you. Does the jellyfish in the Motion watch face turn on any quicker?
Unchanged. The only face I see with a change is more color saturation on the earth when on the astronomy face.

Watch update took about 20 minutes from start to finish over a 20Mbps connection.

-Raise to Wake More Responsive
-Astronomy Watch Face has higher contrast
-Hey Siri functions more accurately
-Third-Party Apps Loading Quicker
-Glances Loading Quicker
-HR Glance stays live until HR is displayed
-StopWatch 'Start/Reset' Buttons switched for ease of use
-Pace On Outdoor Runs/Walks seems more accurately updated

For the starting x.x.1 update, this seems to be a winner!

I've also discovered more fluid animations. Specifically, when using the digital crown to zoom slowly into the Watch app from the home screen, the UI/animation in 1.0 jolted a lot and was rather jumpy. Now it's as fluid as you see in the WATCH commercials and you can really appreciate the thought and detail that Apple put into the animations.

Every time I'm at an modest coffee shop and see someone pull out an iPad I respond by pulling out my Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 rocking Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with Samsung's innovative TouchWiz UI, a lightning fast quard core Qualcomm Snapdragon, 1.5 GB RAM, and of course a microSDXC card slot for expansion. Bam. Checkmate.

Yes, but the guy with the Ipad does not care, because in two years, when yours is in the trash, he can sell his for an substantial amount :)

My wife asked me to return her Apple Watch today. She can't get accurate fitness results. It's way off from her Polar. She even bought a bluetooth polar chest strap. Maybe this update will help?

I used both my Apple Watch and a Polar monitor today and had several differences, some substantial, while exercising, but at the end, the two devices had EXACTLY the same average. I will try a few more times to see if this result is typical.

I walk a measured route and the Apple Watch gives erroneous results ranging from .17 mile in two miles to .08 mile in two. Maybe this will correct itself over time. We'll see!!

Installing now...

Today was supposed to be a rest day after 4 days in a row of running, but I think I'll have to go out for a short 5-mile run later today and see if the measuring of the run distance has improved. (This update claim improvements have been made.) I sure hope so. My watch has consistently been measuring my runs short by 9-11%. Hopefully this update fixes it!

Mine are in the other direction. I use a measured distance on a flat road. The watch regularly signals that I have completed my route from 100 to 200 yards short of the actual finish. I have tried the calibration routine twice, so maybe the GPS system will correct itself with use. Hope so...
