Wait a second... you mean you have to have an iPhone to get this update?

Can it be ANYONE'S iPhone? Or do I have to have an iPhone for it?

huh? you do the update through the Apple Watch app on the phone that is connected to your watch.

How are any of us iPad naysayers wrong? Our criticisms of this crap device still stand today as they did when it was first unveiled. It's a big iPod touch not capable of satisfying any computing needs on or near the level of a laptop or a truly modern tablet. Apple has yet to address any of the shortcomings of this product, including the ridiculous product name.

The iPad's value as a novelty is beginning to waver as indicated in the quarterly sales decline as people are beginning to see the disturbing truth behind this product's existence: to separate you from your hard-earned cash by repackaging low-tech parts from a 4.7 body into a 9.7 body. Apple has figured out how to sell the same exact product twice to the gullible.

Every time I'm at an modest coffee shop and see someone pull out an iPad I respond by pulling out my Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 rocking Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with Samsung's innovative TouchWiz UI, a lightning fast quard core Qualcomm Snapdragon, 1.5 GB RAM, and of course a microSDXC card slot for expansion. Bam. Checkmate.

Yeah sorry, you lost me at "lollipop" & "rocking"# You're too funny mate.

And apparently you are joking, too dry mate, too dry.

Worked

I've been having a problem with the United App which would open, show me a spin wheel, and then crash back to the app 'constellation.'

The update fixed that, and everything else is working smoothly.

Still really liking the Watch. Proving to be quite useful for business travel.

Used Apple Pay in Walgreens on my watch yesterday for the first time. Double click, hold over reader for half a second and done. Pretty sweet.

Taking a flight on Saturday, we'll see if I can get the boarding pass to work on the Watch.

By the end of this year it is projected that Apple will have sold close to half a billion units of the iPad.

And you are claiming this product is inferior, a flop, and has a stupid name?

I use mine every day at work, during plane rides to watch TV or movies. And it does a great job. It talks perfectly with my computer and phone, does everything I want and expect it to do, and looks nice.

If I were in a coffee shop, do you think I would care for a single second that you had cheap plastic iPad clone, just like I wouldn't care if you were wearing a Pebble.

CNet reviewed this tablet you are so enamored with and noted, "The plastic build feels cheap and the screen resolution is notably subpar."

Ya know, in a p**sing contest, you get points for distance AND accuracy right? Plus, you need to make sure the other guy is competing, otherwise you're just p**ssing into the wind...

I wish they would have fixed the blue text on black background issue in emails, they are so hard to read.

Also safari seems much faster.

Safari seems faster?... Good one. I'm glad someone on here has a sense of humor. :D

Make sure you follow the calibration procedure so you get an accurate reading from your Apple Watch for the distance and accuracy.

I'm sure you guys are right, and every single device out there will give her different calorie readings, but from her point of view, the Polar says she burned several hundred more, and therefore her Watch is crap. That's how she feels.

No way to know which of the two is more accurate right? Any scientific tests I could do to convince her?
I would assume that the watch needs among other parameters your weight to calculate the calorie consumption. Increase that weight number and the same physical activity should result in a higher calorie consumption.

Anyone else get this? I haven't been able to download it. I would also get the message that the update couldn't be verified.

I received the same error as well. I had to unpair and repair the watch. It's a big pain the butt, but that'll be the only way you'll be able to updated. I does say iOS 8.2.1 but, once it downloads and updates, it'll be Watch OS 1.0.1. I finally called Apple and submitted a formal complaint.

Glad to see some improvements are happening. The standing notification when I was previously standing/walking was a bit annoying/hilarious. Siri's buffoonery, while still apparent (Google Now still kicks the pants voice recognition wise), is at least a bit more agile.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I honestly would've preferred updates along the lines of:

Needs:

-Better wrist lift detection

-Consistency with notifications--especially ones that are directly from on-board apps (phone, messages, etc).

-The option to have your phone and watch synced in regard to silencing alarms. Had an awkward moments where I silenced my phone but the watch ended up ringing. (Perhaps this is already possible and I'm not seeing it?)

Nice to Haves

-More customization options--(would love to see FaceMaker on here one day).
-More stringent standards on app release qualifiers (for example, from a UX perspective, Trivia Crack is susceptible to erroneous taps because of its design)
-Separate reviews for the Apple Watch "companion apps" so users are able to gauge the benefit of the app through user reviews without so much trial and error (eg, Trivia Crack, FlipBoard, etc).

Whoa! Battery life is a lot better. I've been wearing my watch to bed every weeknight since I owned it to wake up at 4:30am without disturbing my wife. Usually I am down to about 85% after a nights sleep of about 6 hours. If I'm using Airplane mode I am around 90%. This morning I woke up to 95%!!! Granted this is unscientific and I probably got about an hour less sleep last night than usual (hard to say since this thing doesn't sleep track... yet)

Also as others have said the vibration IS a little stronger. Most notably it's louder than before since the vibration is stronger it's a little bit audible now. I did notice last night at one point while I was awake and walking around that I got the sensation that the watch was falling off my arm. But it was just a vibration from a message or something.

Going to test it out at the gym now.

That's interesting, because I'm finding a slightly heavier drain. I don't wear mine to bed, but I noticed it dropped down about 10% - 15% more today, after using the Workout App, then yesterday. I'm not sure if it's the Workout App or the fact that the Watch Face comes on so much more frequently now.

I'll try to do some researching.

Had a similar issue. When I looked at my contact info on my wife's Watch, it only had the number synced and didn't look right. I removed my contact from her phone, and then re-added it through the contacts app and then added my contact to her friends list on the watch through the companion app. That fixed it. It took several iterations of removing and adding my contact several different ways before I happened on that sequence which worked.

Yeah, we've been trying adding and re-adding each others contacts manually on both phones and watched to no avail. I can receive digital touches from my friends who have ᴡᴀᴛᴄʜ with no issues, making it doubly frustrating.

When you each pull up each other's contact on the watch itself, do your contacts show the digital touch symbol? If you're havin. The same issue we had, one should show, and the other should show a spinning wheel of wait while it looks for the other watch and then eventually give up and show no symbol.

The contact in the companion app also failed to show the full contact card.

Both watches show the ability to tap with the symbol. She can happily send taps and heartbeats to me, they just disappear into the ether and I never get them.

The update has destroyed my battery life. I installed it yesterday, and charged my watch overnight as usual. Normally I still have 50-60% when I go to bed, but at 4 pm today I was already down to about 25% with normal usage.

I have reset my watch and set it up as new, with no 3rd party apps enabled. I'll let it charge overnight and see what tomorrow brings. :(

I was only just now wondering if this update was impacting battery life. I was hoping it would improve it, not that it's bad to begin with.

Has anyone else experiences a positive or negative impact this update has had on the battery life of their watch or phone?

I bet you carry around a tape measure.

Explain why you think this is a wireless update.

Simple. The cable for the Apple Watch is a charging cable. Nothing more, nothing less. You downloaded the update on your iPhone over wifi without the need of a computer. The Watch was plugged directly into your power outlet, not a computer. You're taking this too literal. This isn't like the days where you had to connect your iPhone or iPad into your computer for a software update.
