So you think Apple's design decisions are all just grand? They've been on a roll with dismal UI changes.

I just gave an obvious fix so everyone would be happy. What's your fault with it?

When you disable wifi/BT, you're also disconnecting... so that really doesn't clear it up, especially for the typical user who isn't too clear on the details.

They changed how something works and hardly made it clear that it suddenly operates in a very different and less intuitive way. It should be clearer or better yet, offer the ability to do both so everyone's happy.
Yes they could have pointed out the difference between disabled and disconnected. And it would seem an option for more CC customization would be the ideal solution. But having both options (1 in cc and the other in settings) is certainly better than simply going back to old way.

Release notes on 11.2b...

Notes and Known Issues

...

Aren't developers sworn to secrecy on those documents (even if they are floating around)? Just curious, was always afraid to quote from the release notes. But if you're not a registered developer then you haven't signed any NDA anyway.

Any data to support such claim?

I manage the shared data for a small company with 6-8 devices. We haven't switched to an unlimited plan due to having a better price on a limited data amount that has always been enough.

But once or twice a year someone will forget to turn back on their wifi and I'll scramble everyone to halt data usage so we don't get hit with big overages.

So here's 6-8 votes in favor of the change. None of the people who forget to turn wifi back on have any clue about the change and that make my job much easier.

I really feel like this is a typical Apple move to actually protect users from themselves. There are so many settings and options in Android not in Apple, that this just goes along with the theme.

The worst isn’t when you have multiple devices and this more of your space is eaten up by backups. They should allot free iCloud space based on what devices you own; e.g. for every 10 Gigs, you get 1 Gig of iCloud.

You can turn off every other item individually in terms of what gets backed up, so surely iMessages can just be toggled off in terms of whether it uses iCloud.

Yep. I have 100 MB with Google simply because I have a Chromebook that isn't even a Google-brand Chromebook. For those of us who've paid what the Apple-haters call the "Apple tax" (and done so quite willingly, I would add), 1 GB per device isn't too much to ask.

Now that the iCloud storage can be shared among a family, I really think that $3 a month for the whole family is really quite reasonable. That's the price for the 100gig plan.

Also note, that many people don't need their non-primary devices backed up what with iCloud drive and other cloud save services. For example, I do back up my phone just for quick restore, but my iPad I don't. There is really very little data that's not covered by another backup method making device backup kind of duplicative. There are a few games (grrr) that only do device saves, but most of your hardcore and/or premium IAP based games do use cloud saves.

Agree with the stinginess of the free iCloud data, but just pointing out some other aspects / perspective on it.

Warning! Don’t update if you don’t want hell when restoring to your iPhone X on Friday! You won’t be able to and have to set it up as new, get on 11.2 beta, then finally restore from your old phone!

That's not true... You will simply need to install 11.2 on your iPhone X when you get it. On Friday the 11.2 beta will be available.

The release notes are already in public domain, so it is fine. In fact, those release notes are very technical and the general public may not know what does it even mean.

They fixed a few managed open-in policy bugs such as the ability to copy and paste email attachments from managed accounts to other unmanaged apps. Copy option is no longer present and if you select text and include the attachment, only the text is copied out, not the attachment, exception being copy/paste between mail accounts that are managed and unmanaged. It's a step in the right direction but Apple still has a lot of enterprise restriction/policy holes.

How does situation compare to Android? Not trying to start a fight, genuinely interested.

How’s the battery life on 11.2 vs 11.1b5?

Mine is stellar on b5, and wondering if it’s even worth it to upgrade or just stay on regular releases and wait for 11.2.

It feels like the same as b5. Bonus: faster animation (I think... just an impression)

just installed 11.2 beta about 6 hours ago on IP6. A hefty 1.9 GB download over 11.1 last beta.

My Used space 9.3GB/16GB with apps and photos

Impressions

I cant see much improvements in performance, at least not in the same way from 11.0 to 11.1 last released beta ( a noticeable improvement) , on the contrary , it seems to be slower in loading apps ( however this can be due to other factors like wifi speed ect) General scrolling and UI is slightly better. The battery life seems to be the same as 11.1 but more stable than 11.1 . as in probably better idle drain.well i must say for that huge download size i expected more. Overall feels slower than last 11.1 beta . But fingers crossed.

You can turn off the ask to join and solve your 1st issue with the popups. And you are not "forced" to do anything as you can still turn off wifi and BT any time you want from the settings app. And if you have 3D touch enabled device even quicker than the CC using 3D touch.

You can see the data if you read through the many iOS 11 x threads here on this topic. Including several good posts as to why this behavior is better than the old way.
Thanks for pointing out that I can turn off 'ask to join', but the other issues persist, MAC ID tracking using WiFi and BT security and tracking in a public place.

As I have said before, Apple should implement a button with three states, which allows for connect, disconnect and turn off. It doesn't look be too hard to implement.

is there any improvement in iOS 11.2 beta for iPhone 5s, is slow performance, lagging and battery draining issue resolve?

I didn’t have any of these issues with iOS 11.1 b5 and don’t have these issues with 11.2 b1. Performance is snappy, no lagging and great battery life for a 4 year old phone.

How does it compare to 11.0, though?

MAC address is stored in the hardware of the network module that never changes, it's a burned-in address.

The address that gets transmitted doesn’t have to be the real one. Spoofing is a thing. And iOS does it automatically while not connected.

With less than a day passing right after installation there isn't meaningful enough data to really much about the battery.

Oops. I updated to 11.2 beta 1 before I saw this. I'll be getting my iPhone X on Friday. What's the process to get my backup installed onto my new iPhone X (Verizon)? Do I just set it up as a new phone, update to 11.2 beta 1, and then install my latest backup?
