Finally found some inexpensive USB-C to USB-A 3.1 through www.primecables.com
Got it delivered the next day at a subway station in Montreal, that's AWESOME. I updated my AppleTV to the final release tonight, and have downloaded a few apps already :D

My other cable has been shipped, is being delivered November 25 through Amazon. I wish I could cancel it at this point.
Thanks for this. I ordered a cable from them just now, we'll see how long it takes to get to Toronto, maybe I'll order some more Lightning cables from them.

Trust me new Apple TV does look nice and the minor hardware changes are also nice but the fact it only support tvOS and ATV 3rd Gen iOS which likely will not get anymore updates or that ATV4 theonly way if I am not mistaken you can only update through USB-C or USB-A instead of through the Air like ATV3 is terrible since I have a iMac mid-2011.

Lets not for the lack of 4K, DTS-HD and 3D is another issue for a company like Apple that use to be so innovative putting out the best before any other competitors and I don't want to hear "well I don't have 4K so it's all good for me" just because you can not afford one does not mean other can't.

I understand your complaints, but I think this is a good starting point for a
I've installed it and there are no obvious changes at all. They must be all under the hood...

Any improvement on scrolling down/up or paging down? The only thing I noticed was a bit choppy in my experience. Hoping to see a little better performance UI-wise in some areas.

Yes, you can stream video from your Mac but I want to see a desktop extension I can move my mouse in and out.
This has been a feature for a couple years already via AirPlay. Pull down the AirPlay menu and extend your desktop.

Got our new Apple TV there other day (in Ireland) and it's pretty much useless. No Siri, no universal search. This thing is painful to use with all the typing. Waste of time. Sending it back to Apple.

Hopefully 9.1 will switch on Siri?!

Why send back a software upgradable device because it's currently missing a couple obvious software features? And if you're sending it back, why are you hopeful that 9.1 will switch on Siri?

If you hold the TV button down for a second, a sleep pop-up option appears and if you press sleep, it turns it your TV off. It works on my 32" LG LED TV that does not support HDMI-CEC. And as such, waking the TV up does not turn on the TV, but it does indeed shut it down, which I can't explain.

Doesn't work on mine unfortunately, just says 'No Signal' that bounces around the screen forever.

From the release notes, it looks like it just includes a couple of internal tweaks. Did notice this tidbit, though:

Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) is now enabled by default on Ethernet and Wi-Fi. This is designed to reduce network delays and reduce packet loss.

Except the released versions for tvOS (9.0) and iOS (9.1) are already out of sync. And there's no prayer or intent of aligning OSX versions with iOS versions. So you are always going to have to deal with three versions. Personally, I find it very confusing to try to sync with two similar-but-different release versions.

From what I've heard internally at Apple, they are looking to align the version shortly. But I'll let the OS guys know there is no prayer or intent on their part to do so. They'll be happy to know.

The iPhone wasn't all that special or exciting until developers built apps that made it special.
That's a bit of revisionist history. I remember when Jobs demoed that phone, especially its limited Enterprise features, and visual voice mail. The crowd was mesmerized. The iPhone was clearly revolutionary device like few before it. Even without the apps. The iPhone would have turned the mobile phone business on its ear without apps, but the apps turned the computer industry on its ear. Now the desktop is moving toward the phone at an accelerated pace.

This TV is the same box I bought last year with a faster processor, and a microphone in the remote. Big deal. This is what's been cooking in Apple labs for over 6 years? And to add insult to injury it actually does less of what I was previously using it for, without offering me any new compelling reasons to own it.

Let the gamers find utility in it (if there is any for them), and be the early adopters this time, and build the platform to something useful for the masses. The rest of us should return these half-baked boxes as fast as we can and let Apple chew on that during the holiday season, and just maybe they'll finally get serious about it.

I remember when these threads were about the changes and not gripe fests about stuff that's been discussed ad nauseum.

Has anyone that installed it know if it fixes the audio issue some people are having where the ATV4 doesn't send the proper sound output (Stereo, Dolby Digital) to their receiver?

Someone on reddit says that they reverted the keyboard to the old layout. Can somebody confirm this?

I already have the previous version of the Apple TV, so the fact that this 'new' one does nothing more than the old version means that I would rather have the €179 back in my pocket until it's actually worth my while. I'll go and buy it if and when the headline features are made available.

My hope is that'll I'll be able to buy another one whenever 9.1 comes out — I won't hold my breath though.

Hows that app store working on your previous Apple TV?

After a little research, I'm pleased with getting multi-channel LPCM to the receiver instead of Dolby Digital (when the ATV is connected to the receiver). LPCM is lossless and allows the AppleTV to mix system sound effects into the audio stream. It would appear that this is the ideal audio solution.

I was concerned about not getting DD, because I WAS getting DD over ARC when the ATV was connected to the TV, but audio effects were dropping out after starting some video. It turns out this is because ARC is basically S/PDIF, which doesn't support high-bitrate multi-channel audio like LPCM, DTS-MA, or Dolby TrueHD.

Very droll.

The fact is, the 'apps' were better on the previous Apple TV. I can't get Now TV anymore (which was a major part of my entertainment). The only thing that I've found that's any use is Plex.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that the Irish App Store is in some way similar to the US one... think again.

With an update so soon, it sounds like they'll be releasing updates on a schedule similar to iOS (and starting with 9.0 would further this speculation). That's a great sign! And I'm sure one of the the updates – perhaps tvOS 10 – will include direct updates instead of requiring it to be done through a computer.

Just so you know, Apple TV has always been updated alongside iOS. In fact, the third gen model got iOS 8.3 as its final updates. They also had Apple TV betas at the same time as iOS. Two ironies there: 1) iOS 8.3 was the final update for third gen model while iOS 8.4 was one that was an entertainment update (Apple Music, which still isn't available on third gen Apple TV, and won't be). 2) Apple TV (as it was called at the time. tvOS is new) was always a version number behind iOS, so when iOS 8.3 was released, it was Apple TV 7.3. I have no idea how we skipped ahead to tvOS 9. Yea, Apple always did the betas. No idea why when there was never an App Store, no idea why they continue to sell a product that they've clearly stopped supporting, no idea why they stopped supporting it when they promised to support the A5 for another year (third gen model uses A5), no idea why they stopped supporting it on the minor update before the minor update for Apple Music, which seems fit for Apple TV.
