5 of you for 100 people  I look after 850 Mac's pretty much on my own. But your co-worker is right Catalina is not yet ready.
Yes but he says half of them are on Windows and they need a lot more support in my experience.

Amen...good grief, talk about a CF...and slow. MacOS X 10.1 fixed a lot of things and for me, Jaguar was good at the end with 10.2.6, Panther, better once 10.3.3 shipped, Tiger at 10.4.4, Leopard by 10.5.6, SL at 10.6.8, Lion was complete crap through every release, ML was fine by 10.8.5, Mavericks I never really even remember using that much, Yosemite took until 10.10.4, Sierra by 10.12.4, HS by 10.13.4 and for me Mojave 10.14.5 was more stable than 10.14.6. I hold out hope that Catalina will be better by 10.15.4, there is still a ways to go, unfortunately.

EDIT: Forgot El Crapitan, which was fine by 10.11.4. Pretty good, actually, by the time it hit 10.11.6.
I wonder if there's a pattern here? Nothing personal I assure you, but I never had a single problem with any of those and I wonder if it isn't actually a particular program/app or two that isn't causing all those problems?
The pattern seems to be: people having problems with Catalina seem to have had multiple problems in the pasts.
As I say, not having a pop at you but there's something I think in some people having so many problems over the years and some people having none, and it would be interesting to find out what's causing it.

I had some issues with my internet speed, i restarted my modem and updated to the beta and its a lot better, i have some issues with the fan going crazy over safari tabs, its better now but i will provide an update if that changes. All seems well other than that so far.

Macbook Air 2012 i7 8GB Ram

What a strange bug/glitch...when I turn off screen or close the lid and then turn on it again, Apple logo with progress bar show for a while...

Very very strange...

Someone with same issue? Tried to reset NVRAM and SMC but it still appear. Please take look at the video below.

The good news is they are listing it as supported. Waiting months for this.
I am hoping that the delay in the Mac Pro shipping is that Apple is trying to get the 5700XT up and running before the release and that they will replace the Pro 580X with a Pro 5700XT as the base GPU. Also, possibly bumping up the base 256GB SSD to 512 (2x256GB) along with bumping the GPU to the 5700XT at the same $6K price might help entice a few more fence sitters.

I definitely agree with you:
With macOS Catalina, Apple has completed a huge transition. I'd like to go back to a 24 month macOS release cycle allowing more stable platforms to build-upon: 18 months for platform development, 6 months beta testing. Multiple features can be added during each release cycle.
I wonder whether Apple can keep up with the yearly iOS release cycle... iOS and its user face area becoming increasingly complex...

Why not just upgrade every 18-24 months when you know a version is stable and you get multiple features?

It boils down to metal and driver control. Nvidia doesn’t want to give Apple control.

And at this point in Apple’s history, there’s no way that Apple is going to give NVIDIA control in any way, shape or form.

So I take it this was different in High Sierra compared to Mojave then? Because (like many of us know) in High Sierra Nvidia has the Web Driver which supports more Nvidia graphics cards than Apple has been using, but that Web Driver hasn't been released for Mojave.

And if Nvidia doesn't want to give Apple control, how was things done at the times when Apple had Nvidia graphics in them – not the same with OpenGL as with Metal? 🤔

NOTES isn't syncing properly to IOS/IPADOS ... I'm looking at replacing MS ONENOTE with APPLE NOTES ... I have 2500+ notes with about 200mb of content ... I need to create multiple structures (nested folders) organized by various classifications ... this structure is NOT syncing over to IOS/IPADOS properly

UPDATE: after 4 days, NOTES has finally sync'd over the STRUCTURE to IOS/IPADOS ... nested folders with sub-lying notes works and is properly organized ...

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.1 update to developers, just days after releasing macOS Catalina to the public.

The new macOS Catalina beta can be downloaded using the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences after installing the proper software from the Developer Center.

It's not yet known what improvements the first update to macOS Catalina will bring, but it likely includes performance improvements and fixes for bugs that weren't able to be addressed in the first version of Catalina.

macOS Catalina is a major update that eliminates iTunes in favor of new Music, Podcasts, and TV apps, nixes support for 32-bit apps, adds a new Find My app, brings a new Photos interface, and includes multiple privacy enhancements and other app refinements.

For full details on what's new in macOS Catalina, make sure to check out our macOS Catalina roundup.

Update: According to Apple's release notes, macOS Catalina 10.15.1 introduces support for the AMD Navi RDNA eGPU architecture and brings some changes to Photos. You can now filter by Favorites, Edited, Photos, Videos, or Keywords in the All Photos view, and you can choose View > Metadata > Titles to enable titles and filenames in the All Photos View.

Apple has deprecated OpenGL and OpenCL in favor of Metal and High Sierra was the last release to have them featured, whereas they are deprecated in Mojave - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOS_Mojave - For Macs containing NVIDIA GPUs, Apple writes and maintains those drivers themselves without NVIDIA’s direct input. Apple will be supporting them until probably 10.18 when the last computer with NVIDIA native, the 2014 15” MacBook Pro ages out and hits Vintage status in early 2022.

I installed 10.15.0 on my MacBook 12" (early 2015) and it went in like a dream. Use Xcode for iOS dev. This seems to work too, although I can't upgrade from 11.0 to 11.1. The AppStore just doesn't seem to notice the upgrade, but my iMac (still on 10.14.6) sees the 11.1 upgrade no problem
I had similar problem with the 11.1 upgrade: App Store downloaded the update, but then couldn't install. Repeatedly.

I deleted Xcode 11.0 (from Launchpad, just to try that), then waited 2 minutes and then downloaded 11.1 from App Store. Installed on first try. :)

Well, deprecated means they are still there and can be used. And it's not like Apple has been doing anything with OpenGL over the years – it has been at version 4.1 since OS X Mavericks released in 2013.

Anyway, I don't understand why the deprecation of OpenGL and OpenCL motivates the lack of support for later GPU offerings from Nvidia(?).

also, Catalina has changed PARENTAL CONTROLS ... the feature/option is missing/moved/renamed to something else ...

I haven't kept up with all of the latest talk about Catalina, to be honest.... But my co-workers have been running it ever since the early betas and they insist the release is currently far too buggy for us to consider allowing the rest of our users to install it. (A group of 5 of us do I.T. for a company with around 100 employees, and roughly half of them are using Macs. I've been side tracked lately with some Windows issues so haven't played as much with Catalina.)
I skipped the betas and upgraded straight to the regular App Store release. Everything is working just fine on my MacBook Pro.

As it turns out the search bar in the top right corner of System Preferences isn't there for show.

Catalina messed up my album art in iTunes and made me lose several albums, which thankfully I had in a 3rd backup. Awful quality control.

I store my music on a NAS drive so it was completely obliterated when I 'upgraded'. I now completely refuse to upgrade because it really slowed my iMac to a crawl to the point where I could do nothing.

Suffice to say, I am back on Mojave.

I've had that happen every now and then, both on a MacBook Air (2010) with High Sierra, and a MacBook Pro (±2013) with Mojave.

I always thought it was the OS reading back RAM content from the (Swap) disk or some other maintanace stuff going on...

Under users, the Parental Control check box is no more ... how do I assign a login account to Mac OS as a “children’s account” ... that link is missing
