Oh this is where the interesting stuff is.

Server integrated. Sounds very promising, I definitely will be looking to get Lion for this feature alone, everything else will be gravy.

Have Apple played all their cards now?

Or could they still have some more features they they haven't announced yet?

Great time to a be user of Apple Products.

Doesn't sound too bad so far. I don't really care about FileVault - never use it now. Moving files between Macs is already pretty easy if sharing is allowed? Resume is quite cool but I sleep my desktop or laptop which does the same. I suspect that the resume shutdown will be some sort of hibernating and the files will be sent to the RAM and thus the computer won't be completely off as in "shut down"?

This is absolutely terrible for Enterprise.

I think Apple is not doing as well as other server platforms in the Enterprise sector thus moving to offer it to the general public and as one more selling point for Lion.

I am more excited with the preview of Lion than with the MBP update!!! :D

Looking forward to some more screenshots being released.

Gestures looks really good, I may have to buy a Trackpad with my copy of Lion :D

"Versions, which automatically saves successive versions of your document as you create it, and gives you an easy way to browse, edit and even revert to previous versions; "

Not saying it's because of me but I sent this exact suggestion to OS X Feedback.

I may have misread/missed it somewhere but how is mission control different than expose?

Other than that it all looks great

Stuff like this doesn't help them. This is yet another thing I have to restrict/remove to keep users from setting up their own "servers."

OS X LION HAS LION SERVER INTEGRATED!!!!

Very awesome release of Lion is coming, Apple is going to be the first to give away a server included with the OS

I think you misunderstood the text. It only said that there will also be an OS X Lion Server product. Nobody said that Lion Server will be a part of Lion. OS X Lion and OS X Lion Server will very obviously still be two separate products.

OS X Lion Server still is a product that cannot be taken seriously, though, unless they change its EULA so that it can legally be run on non-Apple server hardware. Because, in case people have already forgotten it, Apple is no longer developing and selling server hardware.

too bad apple doesn't sell any servers to go with it

I'm a fully paid up member of the iOS and Mac OS developer programs and can't see this preview anywhere in or the Dev centre or the App Store as (as mentioned in the article which seems a strange way to distribute it?). Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.
Hopefully, as it integrates OS X Server, Apple will allow virtualisation of this so I can play with it without dedicating a machine to a very early preview...

Edit
And just after I typed this, the Dev centre went down. Guess it'll be here soon now :)

I see your point. Well for people like you it might mean some extra work but for users like me setting up a home server will become much much cheaper. And this is good news.

From the Apple site:

Simply a better server.
Lion Server is now part of Mac OS X Lion. It’s easy to set up your Mac as a server and take advantage of the many services Lion Server has to offer.

truly a shame. im also a little concerned about sandboxing of apps as mentioned on that page.

"Sandboxing protects the system by limiting the kinds of things an application can do, such as accessing files on disk or resources over the network"

"Overlay Scrollbars
Mac OS X Lion introduces overlay scrollbars similar to those in iOS. These scrollbars appear as an overlay on top of the window's content while the user is scrolling and remain visible briefly to allow scrollbar dragging."
:)

OS X 10.7 looks like the "sleeper" news of the day with all the attention on the new MacBook Pros. I'm really impressed by the details and wasn't expecting all the new features. This is looking like a $129 upgrade.

Interesting that it's being distributed through the Mac App Store... (though you still need a redemption code from the MDC)

Has anybody been able to download the beta? I just cannot find it on the developer connection or the Mac AppStore.

Edit: Okay, now I found it... :)

I would have loved to see an integrated mail/calendar/contacts app rather than the 3 separate apps (I understand they are highly interconnected, just saying) :D

Look at post #33.... Apple clearly say OS X SERVER IS NOW APART OF OS X LION.
