can somebody please check the filesystem?? what is it? zfs? hfs++ ???? if it is zfs ore something like that, i think about leaving my linux-macbook and go back to osx....

This is absolutely terrible for Enterprise.

Might be gearing up and in-line for this....
http://37signals.com/svn/posts/2785-the-end-of-the-it-department

I am having a hard time finding a job lately. I hear more and more that "our I/T is in another state / country" or "we don't have an I/T dept - most everything we need, we can do ourselves".

Plus, if you ever do need anything - there are contractors (this is where the I/T industry is headed and quicker than most realized". Most companies I see now-adays have much smaller I/T depts than what they used to have. many outsource to other companies like Systel, etc.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

This update sounds vastly superior to snow leopard. Resume, versions, airdrop and server functionality all sound like Life savers. So hopeful there's more fun to come.

truly a shame. im also a little concerned about sandboxing of apps as mentioned on that page.

"Sandboxing protects the system by limiting the kinds of things an application can do, such as accessing files on disk or resources over the network"

Hm, I read it as a new feature in the OS in case you'd like to make use of it in your application. So that you don't have to design your own sandbox, in case your app interacts with e.g. the Internet. I don't think this is an enforced technology -- it simply didn't seem worded like that to me.

Google are currently using some sort of sandboxing technology also in Google Chrome for Mac, and I think they're already exploiting some OS X API in order to do that. But it could be that OS X Lion has refined support for it, which should make especially web browser designers happy as Apple would be doing more work for them.

ZFS was scrapped due to licensing issues.

If Apple is to update their filesystem it'll probably be to the open FS developed by Oracle, which seems equivalent to ZFS anyway.

But I agree this is one of the issue Apple has to fix.

Server being a part of Lion is great!

Also it seems that there is finally going to be a Year view in iCal - hurrah!
:D

I'm sure there's lots more to come but I don't think anything revealed it terribly exciting, especially when compared to recent major developments on the Linux desktop, Gnome 3 shell, Unity and Wayland, Debian Squeeze and Kernel improvements etc...

I'm most excited to see new cloud developments, perhaps that new Data Centre will fit into Lion somehow, integrated into iTunes for streaming media, seems likely.

Really needs a new UI, starting to look dated.
I like pop-up menu when you right click on the dock, dark with transparency, would be nice implemented system wide with option for light theme...

Server

OS X LION HAS LION SERVER INTEGRATED!!!!

Very awesome release of Lion is coming, Apple is going to be the first to give away a server included with the OS

I guess this sort of explains the dropping of xserves
still, really cool though - I wonder if there is a per-user limit.

If anyone gets this, does this install preserve your apps/files/settings? Is it worth trying to get it off torrent sites?

Love the MacBook Pro update, but not sure how i feel about all this iOS stuff coming to the Mac. I already have an iPhone and an iPad... Don't really want to deal with crappy iOS folders on my full scale computer.

Are you serious? Sandboxing is now a critical component of any modern OS. It's strictly used as defense against malware. It keeps applications from doing stuff they aren't meant to, like executing rogue code that can snoop on or tamper with your files.

Half of the exploits with stuff like Acrobat and Flash have to do with documents carrying rogue, executable code hidden inside. Safari is known for being exploitable, although there aren't any examples in the wild yet.

Compatibility

Please could anyone with a dev account comment on compatibility with older systems. Particularly are the older white MacBooks supported, mines a 1.86Ghz C2D with intel GMA950 graphics?

Wow! Autosave!!

Apple is as always ahead of its competition. I'm sure other OS's will steal this great new 'autosave' feature as soon as they can.. No more lost documents when Pages or Keynote crashes once again.. And again.

Keep up the good work!

Plus is the any awkwardness for users without a multitouch mouse or trackpad.
