system requirements?

anybody know what the system requirements for will be? will i still be able to use this on my 2008 unibody macbook (2ghz core 2 duo) or am i out of luck?

for any Snow Leopard(and previous) user, that has multiple displays: you know what you're likely looking to be "fixed" in 10.8. I wont use the "pro" word, but there are many broken features when using multiple displays in 10.7, when compared to 10.6(and below). Speaking most notably about iMissionControl & Spaces/Expose.

Like the new wallpaper for it. I really hope they address the lack of decent dual monitor support with Lion. Why cant two applications be full screen if you have two monitors connected?

Take your tinfoil hats off people.

iOS gaining an "install from anywhere" / "signed apps only" option is more likely than OS X forcing you to go through the app store.

Eh, no. iOS will never get an install anything option, it would undermine the stability of the os and the ecosystem. OS X adopting the walled garden strategy is a realistic possibility though

well thats a big maybe to me, would apple really want to cut ties will all software developers that do not want to release their software on the app store?

I wouldn't be surprised for a second. Apple wont to it overnight, they never do with things like this. They will gradually progress towards it and force developers to play along or drop out along the way.

Two finger swipe???

So, now the two finger swipe will be used for both navigating between pages in Safari etc, AND the notification center? Weird.

It's looking good. Hopefully they won't charge $29.99 for what seems like at this point just a few updated apps, but whatever, I'll still pay.

The only concerning thing is the future potential of "gatekeeper." Right now you can still set it to "run all programs" so there's no prob, but I hope that Apple isn't on a step-by-step journey (first the mac app store, next gatekeeper, next ???) to doing a closed, iOS style system.

Sorry, everyone already called 10.5 Apple's Vista. You only get one Vista.

Not true at all. Apple has been releasing Vistas since 10.5. You don't just add little things and tell everyone its magical. At some point people will call you out on it and thats what happened with Lion. You can love Apple all you want but at some point you have to go, wait a second. I am hoping Mountain Lion is going to be the OS that Apple has been trying to release for the past few years.

I tell you what.

Just finished upgrading and this Lion ROARS. It is fast as hell.

Must be nice! Mine goes from 5 minutes left back to 15. People must be slamming the servers.

Serious question - why are you still on a Mac then? 10.5 was a long time ago, and if every release has been even worse than Vista, why aren't you on Windows 7, which is vastly superior to Vista, and by extension, 10.7, 10.6, and 10.5?

No iphone 5 then this summer

Looks like Mountain Lion will the star feature of WWDC 2012. looks like Iphone 5 (or whatever they call it) will have to wait for a fall announcement

Thats the issue. Snow Leopard fixed bugs, Lion added iOS features and broke things, now Mountain Lion is adding more iOS features and fixing the things Lion broke. Its a never ending cycle. The last complete good from the start OS Apple has released was Leopard. Now we have Lion working fine and are actually ready to start rolling it out to our Production team. Not going to happen now. No way I am wasting resources on updating computers every 12 months thats impossible. It takes 3-5 months to update all our computer OS's and if we are doing this every year we are going to be chasing our tails for the life of OSX.

Then your solution is start upgrading every other year, starting this year. That way, you'll get the polished bug-free version of the previous year's release.

Please someone upload the default wallpaper :p

gosh this thread is hot with fast replies!

Wow someone got their feelings hurt by my post! Awwwww :(

Considering I worked for Apple for 4 years and have been an Apple Infrastructure Engineer for the 5 years working for a major Media Conglomerate, and the only non Apple tech device I own is my EVO 4G I would say as a someone deeply tied to Apple I want nothing but the best. My livelihood depends on Apples success and when Apple pulls these OS stunts how do I explain to my boss whats happening? We have no roadmaps; we have nothing. So many people are armchair IT/CIO's but they have no clue what it is really like to manage 15,000+ computers that all need to be managed at a moments notice.

Doesn't work that way. Apple ships computers with a certain OS on it. That forces us to upgrade due to licensing agreements and OS build compatibility. Not all computers Apple ships are backwards compatible with the OS.
