Exactly same problem here, see post #183, i couldn't find a fix, had to go back to 3.2.2.

Same here. Tried Telus sim and Rogers sim, both work in other devices. Carrier Settings says "Carrier 8.0" not Rogers/Telus 8.0... after boot iTunes asked about carrier update, said it was successful. Still no luck. Maybe Apple didn't include Carrier settings for all carriers in this beta?

so i discovered how to use "carrier-testing" mode... testing with a custom ipcc rogers bundle..

On a Mac:
1. Quit iTunes
2. Launch Terminal in Application>Utilites
3. Copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

4. Press Return and quit Terminal
5. Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from the dock.
6. Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left, then hold down the Option key and select "Check for Update."
7. Select your .ipcc file.

On a PC:
1. Quit iTunes
2. Press Windows Key + R to open the run dialog. Type "cmd" then click OK to launch the command prompt
3. Copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt window.

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

4. Press Return and close the Command Prompt window.
5. Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from your Start Menu.
6. Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left, then hold down the Shift key and select "Check for Update"
7. Select your .ipcc file.

it works!!! basically take latest carrier bundle for your carrier, edit the version.plist file to be 8.1+, preform above mod to allow iTunes to take new bundles, and update your carrier settings.
Data working on 4.2b1 on Rogers.

on mac Punch this into terminal, that will get you links straight from apple. there will be 3, i forget which one is the best one, but its version 7.2. impossible to tell till you download and extract. if you cant find it, let me know and i'll find the direct link

curl -s -L http://phobos.apple.com/version | grep -i carrier | grep Rogers

Rogers_ca.ipcc 7.2

Try resetting network settings from Settings App -> General -> Reset on the iPad... then rebooting again once it finishes. Might restore your WIFI until it stops working again ;)

Thanks for your reply. I think I misled with my post. I *was* unable to open *settings* (not control panel...) So wouldn't be able to get to the reset bit you mentioned.

Anyway - reinstalled and it seems to be ok at the moment.

Spoke too soon... The network went on me again. Also some apps weren't working. :(

So I have rolled back to 3.2.2. Will look at the next beta release.

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem. After upgrading my Ipad to 4.2 this morning, I noticed that my data is not working anymore... getting "could not activate cellular data network"

I noticed that my carrier was updated to 8.0 on Rogers.. could this be the problem?

Called Rogers and they, of'course, have no clue.

I had the same issue. Powering off and on solved it. Resetting network settings probably would work, too.

bugs i've seen on 4.2 b1 for ipad:

1) some third party emaila ccounts (pop) crash the mail application
2) contacts don't sync with mobile me account, the slider simply won't keep ''ON''

I used time machine to get my old (and working) ipcc file back and re-updated it on my ipad, now I can use 3G again!

Finally a bit of feature parity between my iPad and iPhone 4. It always felt a little backward going from iOS4 to 3.2.

Worked like a charm .. thank you very much

Hmm, I've modded my T-Mobile ipcc and I also enabled the 'carrier-testing' for iTunes accepting the ipcc as noted above, but my iTunes doesn't let me select either the original downloaded ipcc or the compiled ipcc or zip. It's still gray :-(

Any ideas? Maybe iTunes 10 is the problem?!

[Edit]
Works now. My own fault: the downloaded ipcc was too old and so grayed out, and the newly build was just a .zip file still ;-) Removed the original, renamed the modded correctly as ipcc and it got accepted. But still, iPad says "Carrier 8.0" after adding the modded "T-Mobile 8.2" (8.1 original)... :-(
I've also tried to change "BuildVersion" and "SourceVersion" a bit higher, but no luck...

Looking for someone that can add my devices to dev-center...

Wanna test on iPhone and iPad!
