For some reason my reply to your post was removed. You need to call Applecare about this. I had the exact same problem. In fact one of your linked screen shots it MINE. After Apple replaced my X1900 card the problems went away. Clearly it shows a hardware problem. As I said in the original reply, Leopard pushes a video card harder. I'm betting all the Mac Pros you are referring to have rev1 X1900 cards. You can blast the heat sinks out with compressed air and sometimes the Leopard glitches go away. However they do come back. Basically the RAM on the X1900 is going bad and Leopard triggers it.

Hopefully this reply doesn't get removed...

also fair enough and glad that it is working for you
my frustration and anger over leopard, and I'm a huge :apple: fan but also not blind,is that the severity of so many bugs that are in leopard are not ones that are hard to catch
this without a doubt means that :apple: knowingly released a very bug ridden OS without caring much about the repercussions.only sales mattered it looks like, which is true for most businesses except that there is usually a balance between sales and quality.with leopard :apple: seems to have forgotten the quality part and dropped the ball

like the graphics problems that plague most mac pros with x1900s,which is also what most mac using professionals use,the bug isnt hard to track down and notice. in our main office we have 6 mac pros with the radeon x1900s. 6/6 are affected. at home i have a mac pro with x1900 and macbook pro. my mac pro has the same problems. of my friends that have mac pros with the x1900,all i've talked to so far which is at least 10 have the bug showing constantly also.
the bugs with this configuration, again i think probably :apple:'s top selling pro config make the system unusable for almost anything.like i said there are thousands of similar screenshots on the net but just so you get an idea of what i mean look at
http://www.dganimation.com/CIMG3574.jpg
http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=89577&stc=1&d=1193810876

these little lines are shown all over the display, constantly with no way to fix it.the colors and shapes also appear covering up everything on screen under them continuously while using leopard. if it happened just once in a while or was not common and some oddity or rare bug that'd be one thing. But its not. if :apple: put leopard on a mac pro with the most popular graphics card they sell out of the 3 options they offer, they would have seen this bug.
which even fuels my frustration further because there is NO doubt that they saw this major bug and still went ahead and sold the OS at retail and up until right this moment they havent even officially said it exists.

and deleting thousands of posts on their discussion boards to try and silence the issue?? is that reallly a company that should be given all of your 101% trust? come on people wake up.Apple isnt perfect, far from it in fact. and with all of their recent problems it appears that as a whole the level of quality at :apple: is falling like a stone.
those of you that respond to those of us that 'dare' to speak against the almighty and say that we're just whining, you are the ones that are going to get screwed at some point if :apple: doesnt clean up their act.like i also said its nice that your install works perfectly, but don't deny that other huge issues dont exist.that is just flat out irresponsible and shows a bit of brainwashing from :apple: PR

iSight not working

After 10.5.1 my iSight will not work in iChat or Photo Booth on my dual 2 ghz PowerMac.

Actually, in Tiger, they improved Dashboard by adding a widget manager. That wasn't in 10.4.0 and after they added it, they began shipping Tiger as that version out of the box. I can't remember it was 10.4.2 or 10.4.3 but, it was an added FEATURE.

Interesting, thanks for that, I stand corrected. Even still, I think it's a rarity for them to add features/options in the patch releases.

with stacks, it's not an extra or new feature we're looking for. it's the restoration of awesome function in tiger that they decided to take away for no reason (hierarchical navigation of sub-folders from the dock).

oh yeah, and the stacks icon thing would not be an extra feature either; it's just fixing an incredibly bone-headed mistake!

Actually, strictly speaking it's not a bug but a "design choice", and one that removed a behaviour that people were used to. A terrible bone-headed design choice I agree, but it's still a different concept.

It's a common thing with software developers. Windows ME was best classed as a "mistake" too, but Microsoft never fixed that "bug" either ;)

no new stack Icons... but you can use this. It's a very good idea. It gives you what looks like bins for your stacks i.e. application bin or download bin but still shows you what's inside that bin.

Just download the icons and move them into the specific stack. They've been modified using the touch command to always be on top.

Enjoy,

HHM

Thanks, that looks brilliant. The only thing I don't like about these hacks is they rely on having a fake item cluttering up the stack or Finder window, but those icons looks gorgeous enough to be worth it.

No offense but if you have a room full of Mac Pro's in a production setting why the hell are you putting a brand new OS on all of them? Anyone in a mission critical setting would never upgrade immediately after release. Why do you think Vista is being adopted so slowly in most corporate settings.

I agree 100%. Our infrastructure group will have a standard Vista image ready next spring. We will then have ONE YEAR to test Vista to ensure all our apps work with Vista before we roll it out with a hardware refresh in 2009.

Hell, we are just now getting SQL Server 2005, when the 2008 release is just around the corner.

Even if a new graphics card fixes the issue, you should still take 3 months to test 10.5 and make sure your apps work. Then have a end user actually do work on it. Then push it out to the entire place.

You gotta be strategic when in comes to IT in the workplace. No need to rush and upgrade to the new hotness when the old and busted works just fine.

Disk Utility is still broken after 10.5.1. install. Instead of having the progress bar's white and blue ribbon I get a progress bar that hangs for literally 2 hours at the same spot (5th of the way across the progress box) and keeps saying "Remaining time 1 minute."

I had really oen problem on my blacbook and that was using azureus, it would corse a kernel panic everytime i used it, now i use transmission no more panics, but i'd rather use azureus again.
Anything know about this problem being solved or is it a azureus problem and not an os problem ?

So you downgraded and how exactly can you tell on a system running Tiger if the update to Leopard did not fix some of your bugs that you didn't list above? (Stacks and transparent menu bar are not bugs). Apple never lists all the bugs that are fixed in an update in those tech notes.

I'm assuming he has Tiger and Leopard residing on different hard drives (easy on a Mac Pro). That's what I'm doing. I'm still running Tiger as my main OS while slowly migrating my stuff to Leopard (clean install).

I haven't previously setup time machine but after updating I decided to setup time machine and formatted the drive as fat so that time machine could choose what it wanted. Time machine chose case-sensitive, journaled. It doesn't normally choose case-sensitive does it?

Broke Parallels!!

This update has broke my parallels. I am so angry. First major Airport issues and now this crap. I even reinstalled parallels and it didn't help. It breaks the network connection.

same here

BTW, I have also noticed that this could be related to battery issues since Leopard, for example, if I put my MBP to sleep with 40 or so minutes left (battery life), after an hour or two it won't wake up unless I plug it, and it shows an empty battery. Are you having the same issue?

That was fast...

I hope it fixes those sleep problems I've been having with my MBP, even though it doesn't say it does.

Mbp Sr

COD2 seems to be running without choppiness on my mbp sr GeForce 8600M GT. Just let me sober up and check again.
:D:D:D:D

It's not fixed, unfortunately. :( And it is an OS problem, some people who don't use Azureus have reported having the same kernel panic.

Seems ALOT snappier now. I was really gutted when i first got leopard now its finally living up to the hype, thank god!

Time Machine is still broken!!
Cannot finnish my backups :(

Hoverwer! I found interesting things if you go to your Time Machine drive using Terminal - just check out the logs!

After 10.5.1 my iSight will not work in iChat or Photo Booth on my dual 2 ghz PowerMac.

Two days ago my iSight stopped being recognized by my MacBook, so I reinstalled the bundled applications from the OS disc, this solved the problem.

HOWEVER, after running the update this morning, my iSight is not working with iChat AGAIN. I reinstalled the bundled applications from the OS disc and it didn't fix the problem for me. I am running it now and will report back on the findings.

Any one have advice for me on this? Is there another discussion string I should be looking at?

Thanks!

Yeah, my computer still refuses to remember my wireless network information. This is after:

1. Deleting keychains related to the wireless network
2. Deleting networks from the Network Preference Panel
3. Deleting network preferences file
4. Completely resetting airports and creating new network name/password
5. Changing airport setting from b/g to only "g"
6. Changed wireless network from hidden to non-hidden name
7. Verifying/Repairing permissions

Kill me.

Weird. This was a problem in all the betas for me on intels but never since GM on any. Have you tried a fresh install?

Serisouly?

How do you get those shots of the computer to put on the forum?

you have to host them somewhere, like google picassa, flikr.. wherever, and then insert the link... so upload them there first and then just add the link when you post.

my question is, what programs do you guys use to get screenshots of single windows?

i'm a nooby :D
