Everyone needs to stop complaining about Leopard supposedly being released too early. Every company, Microsoft, Apple, etc. all do it. I have had hardly any issues with 10.5.0 or 10.5.1. My only issue is Disk Utility and permissions repair, but that isn't a huge issue. It still does what it is supposed to do and will get better in time with future updates.
People keep comparing Leopard to Tiger. Does anyone actually remember 10.4.0 (or 10.0, 10.2.0 or 10.3.0 for that matter)?? Personally, I thought that 10.4.0 was much less stable than 10.5.0. Tiger didn't get into it's prime until around 10.4.3+. And you guys have to give Apple credit here. They are having to compile a pretty much universal OS that works on both PPC and Intel.. that's no easy task. Tiger's 10.4.0 debut was only for PPC only, and then they had to port and separate them at around something like 10.4.6(?) for Intel processors. Leopard is different, it is totally universal, it has to be able to run both, which requires more code and will take longer to update and debug, but they are getting faster and more proficient at it. Give them time. A lot of the stuff people are complaining about (driver issues etc.) are not directly put out by Apple. They are often made by other companies (ex: Nvidia, ATI etc.) with Apple input. Give it time. If people are so unhappy with Leopard, then go back to Tiger until 10.5.3+. No one made you upgrade. I for one am very happy with Leopard. I think it is the best OS they have released yet. Like someone posted before, not all of their testers will be able to test the OS under the way we each uniquely use it. That's why Leopard asks you to submit bug reports when something happens, so that the OS X team can examine what happened and what caused it. If it's quirky behavior, submit a bug report manually through apple's website. Just give Apple time, they are busy at work on improvements and aren't just sitting on their duffs saying "oh well, sucks to be you".

I'd much rather get the OS 6 months earlier and deal with the issues that come along with being an early adopter than have to wait another 6 months. For those of you who don't want to deal with these issues, NEVER buy anything until the 3rd or 4th version is out. It's quite simple!

Why are so many people on this thread talking about repairing their permissions?

It's almost never necessary AFAIK and should only really come up if you have a problem. If your hard drive is slow or programs aren't working, then repairing the permissions is definitely something to try, but in the normal course of using the computer, defrag, permissions, and most everything in that category of stuff can be safely ignored for the most part.

This isn't Windows people. :)

No need to constantly "manage" the hard drive.

It is nice to know that it will work if it's ever needed. This isn't windows, but this is a real world. Lose power, accident of some sort - things that might make this tool necessary. I don't condone using it every day, but when needed.

Is this update ok with DIVX installed?? i had to remove all the the divx components prior to leopard install.

lmao

aussie_geek i actualy tried to wipe a bug off my screen when i noticed it was your avatar. :p

I for one will try to get Time machine to work after i finish upgrading, that is the only major problem i have had since upgrading, alongside a few apps that don't work and little tweaks here and there.

and also since upgrading to leopard restarting takes forrrrrever, twice as long as tiger :(

Damn still no transparent menu bar on 12" powerbooks.

Does your PowerBook's graphics card Support "Core Image"? Sorry if this has been touched upon earlier on. But if it doesn't, I think it explains the lack of transparency in the menu bar.

Also, in Time machine do you get a static background or the 'normal' effects?

x3 - running Leopard on two machines and no problems.

There is a Firmware-Update (1.0) on my Al-iMac 2.4 Ghz also.

Don't know where that's coming from ...

Experts,

I need your help please! My iMac isnt connecting via Wi-Fi to my router, but the PC is. If I hook up my mac to the PC with an ethernet cable, would it be able to connect to the internet via a wirelessly connected PC, which does connect?

I get roughly the same disk utility messages on my MBP, 10.4 upgrade to 10.5 machines...doesn't seem to be entirely an isolated issue.

Although I will say that the system seems entirely stable and I haven't had any "issues" as of yet. My airport problems with N enabled routers is now finally behaving!

FYI, two MBP's, that were upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.5, and now to 10.5.1 are showing warnings in Disk Utility when repairing permissions.

Not an isolated issue. You may experience this as well, so heads up.

Perhaps the meta-data for these files didn't get properly updated so that Disk Utility would understand that these were changed by the update rather than some other means. Or perhaps these were supposed to get updated and didn't.

I'm calling Apple Care to report it and see if we can't get clarity.

No, no, no.....if you have problems, by all means---report it and complain. If nobody knows there's a problem, it's not going to be fixed. (Kinda simple, eh?) And if there's a problem, Apple SHOULD fix it.

But I don't want to hear people whining about how it was OBVIOUS that Leopard was pushed out the door, how it was OBVIOUS no quality control was done, and so forth. Without any figures and numbers, you're talking through your hat. Maybe Apple did a poor job with this...maybe they didn't. Without the numbers, you can't tell---and with the increased market share for Macs, Apple could have done a BETTER job of QC and bug squashing and STILL have more complaints (all justified) of operating system bugs.

I have the same IP address as I have always had... I am using the XP PC now to type this, which connects no problem and Both are connected wirelessly to a router, as well as a G4 iBook (works as well).

Haven't tried pinging anything as I've never had to do it so I do not know how.

Just to double check, I'm talking internal IP address, not your internet address (WAN IP) just to clarify.

Open up network utility in the utilities folder. You should have a 192. or a 10. something IP address on the airport interface (there is a pull down menu. On my Mac Mini here at work airport is en1) if you're using wireless.

There is also a ping tab there as well. Start by trying to ping the windows PC (on windows, start, run, type cmd +enter, than ipconfig + enter to get the XP IP address). Enter the IP of the windows machine into the ping tab. This will verify that your at least connected to the wireless router and your network. Make sure any firewall is turned off on the windows PC so it doesn't interfere with the ping test.

I keep reading and a post here and there says that X feature is snappier. I can't get the "Inconceivable!" "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." dialog from my head. :)

2 cleverly concise; neat : snappy catchphrases.
• neat and elegant : a snappy dresser.

Not unless your PC has internet connection sharing turned on, which is a bit of a nightmare in windows.

Better Idea is to wire right to the router to your iMac if possible. Double check your wireless settings on the router, perhaps turn off wep or wpa to troubleshoot if you have a password protected wireless network.

After about 10 attempts to install the update and eventually doing a direct download of the full 100+Mb update from apples website i have got the update installed on my stock mini 2.0ghz.

It does seem less choppy (and not just because of the reboot).

Also, Screen Capture memory leak? What is screen capture? Are you referring to "Grab" which nobody uses, or are you referring to cmd-shift-3?

I'm referring to cmd-shift-3 and -4. Grab works fine, but I don't want to use that. There's a couple threads on Apple forums about this.
